No power steering and a loud popping sound when ever I turned the steering wheel to the right. Just had the front suspension lower control arms replaced at mileage of 112477. The faulty steering warning light came on and it appears this is a problem Ford has had since 2011 on the Ford Explorer. I have read on the internet this is not an unusual problem with the 2015 Ford Explorer, so why has this issue not been required to be included in recall order?? I almost hit another car on a wet rainy night and I was going straight. Lack of steering control when driving 65 mph is a deadly event. Will contact dealer that serviced the front suspension to hear their side of the story.

My 2013 Ford Explorer has one recall for suspension. My vehicle is making cracking noises both on front and rear when I turn or when I go on top of a bump. The problem I have is that I'm deployed to colombia and my vehicle was sent down here two months ago. Can I have a Ford dealership look at my vehicle and fix the suspension problem in colombia? Ford had done work on my car in texas a couple of years ago for this same problem and they charged me hundreds of dollars but the problem was not fixed.

While moving the steering wheel there is a weird clunk/pop noise and feels a bit loose. So this is concerning 66,000 miles on my vehicle. Also the front suspension is very rough and I have taken very good care. Dealership was not sure what it was but stated it was safe.

When steering left or right at a standstill, steering makes a popping or clicking noise. My guess is it is either rack and pinion assembly or suspension parts. In addition, rear end has a bad rattle even on smooth roads. There is about 59,500 miles on the SUV and it was just state inspected. We are afraid to drive it. Checked complaint boards and there are many similar problems.
Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, his rear suspension was making noises without warning. Upon investigation the contact associated NHTSA campaign number: 19v435000 (suspension) with his failure; however, his vehicle was not included in the recall. The rear suspension started with a lower noise in the rear passenger side, whenever I make turns or the road is a little rough. To this day is getting a lot worse, more noise and unstable when I take turns. Also the seat belt light come on, and I was told that the module is malfunction and need to reset or replace with a new one.

While my was driving she went to accelerate from a stop and heard a noise. She thought maybe she ran over glass or something. When she went to turn the corner the vehicle kept going straight. She ended up hitting another vehicle due to the rear suspension breaking. My vehicle is part of the rear suspension recall.

Takata recall. Whenever I maneuver slowly when I park horizontally, I can hear crackling sound and this was fixed twice by Ford dealer. Recently, the dashboard had warning that steering is not working. The steering became stiff right away and stiffer that have to drive slowly and turn on my hazard light the next 3 miles to reach home. I could hardly turn the wheel that have to avoid roads where I have to turn. It was fixed by same dealer and got my vehicle after a week. The mileage is 18,000 and now I'm not confident to take my 3 year old car on long distance drive. The suspension was fixed as well mid 2018 for the car is running like a 20 year old truck on the road.
Have a noise on front passenger side suspension.
Tl the contact owns a 2016 Ford Explorer. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 19v435000 (suspension). The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time as the recall notice was received over a year ago. Woody anderson Ford (2500 jordan ln NW, huntsville, al 35816, (877) 315-0514) was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. While driving 60 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the rear suspension. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the barrier struts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to south bay Ford (5100 w rosecrans Ave, hawthorne, CA 90250, (888) 890-2965) where it was confirmed that the barrier struts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
When we first received the vehicle we went on a road trip to az and the computer completely blacked out on the dash and the suspension was super wobbly. So we called to make an appt to bring it in as soon as we got back in to town but it was a 2 week wait for an appt. They kept our car for three weeks and as soon as we got it back it was the same problem. So we asked to make another appt and this time they kept our car for a whole month and got it back and the same problem. Any little bump or indent in the road and the car is wobbly all over sounds like the bearings. We have yet to get it fixed and I seen there was a recall on 2014 Ford Explorers for the rear bearings. I called the number for recalls and they said they didn't see one for this VIN but it's the same problem from the recall in 2016 for the same year vehicles.
About a year ago, we noticed a squeaky noise in the front of vehicle each time we would accelerate, hit a bump, or make a turn. Took it to my mechanic who replaced parts in the front suspension of the vehicle. Took care of most of the issue but still occasionally squeaks as we brake. I believe there is an issue with the front suspension of this vehicle.

2016 for Explorer sport - purchased brand new. Vehicle has 15k miles now and I am hearing a loud popping / creaking sound that occurs when turning the steering wheel either left or right when the car is in motion. It's most noticeable at a slower rate of speed when turning into a parking space or turning from a complete stop. Today, on 3 separate occasions, when turning left the steering locked up and I had to jerk the steering wheel to the right in order to get the vehicle to go straight again. Each time this has happened there is another loud pop sound that can be heard. This is a major complaint across the board with 2014 - 2016 Explorers along with the wheel bearing, suspension and loss of power complaints.
My Ford Explorer has a constant exhaust smell in the cabin. The dealership completed a recall when I first purchased the vehicle and now the dealer is telling me they do not know of any exhaust in the cabin issues. Strange now the dealership knows nothing about a problem they tried to fix. The front suspension has been replaced 3 times now. About every 20k miles the front suspension start to fail and makes loud clunking noises and we loose alignment in the front end. This last time the tow in the front tires changed and caused for unusual steering on the freeway. The turbo's on the 3. 5 ecoboost have a known oil leak issue that causes damage to the catalytic converter. Ford refuses to cover the catalytic converters even if you have their in house extended service plan.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving 40 mph on the highway, there was a loud abnormal grinding sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. The rear locked up causing the vehicle to fishtail in the middle of the highway. The contact regained control of the vehicle and pull over to the side of the road. The contact had the vehicle towed to bill brown Ford (32222 Plymouth rd, livonia, mi 48150) where they stated that the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 19v435000 (suspension) for the rear toe link. The vehicle was repaired however, the contact received a new recall notification for the same issue. The contact stated that the recently the steering wheel and rear wheels would lock up and the vehicle was taken back to the same dealer but was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000.
Since I purchased this vehicle new in July 2014, I have experienced a sulphur like smell in the cabin area of the vehicle when I accelerate. The odor is strong enough to make you feel nauseous and light headed. I have taken the car back to the dealership where it was purchased on two separate occasions. On one visit they claimed they had installed additional vents to eliminate the fumes. The second time, the exhaust was reportedly replaced. Neither repair created any improvement in regard to the smell. Additionally, I have experienced issues with the front suspension/steering area. The vehicle has been taken back to the dealership on two separate occasions to address the issue(s). The vehicle has a loud popping sound that emanates from the right front axle area when making a low speed turn. The first repair was reportedly a loose "boot cover". The second repair consisted of the installation of a "shim" to address the problem. Neither fix took care of the issue long term.
Sport model front end has had a loud popping/ creak noise when going over bumps at a angle and also sharp low speed manuevers ( pulling into tight parking space) since it was basicly brand new. Loud ticking noise from front hubs at low speeds first visit to Ford was at 9,000 miles they could not duplicate it. Vehicle now has 32,000 miles roughly, the popping and creaking has gotten worse my wife was leaving work and was backing out of her parking spot and the rack and pinion locked up on her. Mulltiple wanring lights came on and she was unable to steer the vehicle. She called me and I told her to cycle the key multiple times and see if it will reset to be able to drive to my work so I could scan it and see what codes it has. She took surface streets to my work. It had codes p0022: cam timing over retarted p052d: cold start cam timing over retarted p193e: a/c clutch request signal u0121: lost communication with abs control module c1b00: steering angle sensor this is the second time cam phaser codes came up. They replaced cam phaser this last visit and vehicle still stumbles/misfire feel at idle. They were "unable to duplicate" rack and pinion/ suspension noise. My wife does not feel safe driving vehicle. It has been getting random hard spots while driving. I took it to another local Ford dealer and they want to charge me for diagnostic if they cant "duplicate" I just got done paying for 3 weeks of rental and cant risk several hundred more dollars to have them, say they cant duplicate it. So I will be picking up the Explorer and I am now stuck with a unsafe vehicle as the steering could "lock up" again at any point. There are multiple cases just like mine that I found and I am not willing to risk having my wife and child have the rack and pinion fail while she is going down the freeway we got lucky with it locking up while at low speed the first time.
In June 2016, I received a manufacturers recall letter for a 2014 Ford Explorer. Recall number: 16s18. Indicating that the rear suspension toe link(s) may fracture due to an improper weld. Resulting in loss of steering control, a difficult steering condition, or rear suspension noise with an increased risk of a crash. It stated that when parts are available, Ford will send a letter to inform us to contact our dealer to schedule repair. Four months have gone by with no word from Ford. I called the local Ford dealer and asked about the timing on this particular recall. Dealer informed me that parts to facilitate repairs were not yet available and that they anticipate a letter to be sent out in January of 2017. My complaint is that 4 to possibly 6 months or more is not a timely completion of work associated with a recall that involves safety issues as serious as loss of steering control. Since the recall repairs have not been timely, my safety officer for the company I work for has informed me that my assigned vehicle can no longer be driven until the recall work has been completed. This has caused a major headache in dealing with the logistics of my job and the need to use that vehicle for my field-related work, where no other vehicle is readily available.
Front suspension makes noises when driving over a bump. Bill flick Ford wants to charge money in order to look at a defect in the suspension. When I reported the issue the Ford Explorer had it was still under warranty. The workers also said that it was common for the 2013 Ford Explorer to have the suspension problems.
The contact owns a 1997 Ford Explorer. When she started the vehicle there was a clicking sound and the vehicle begin swaying from back and forth. The contact stated that the right front sway bar link was broken and sheared. A mechanic looked under the vehicle and observed that the bar was broken. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that recall# 00v402000 component: suspension is related; however, the VIN does not apply to the recall. The failure mileage was 126,000.

The current mileage was approximately 80,552 and failure mileage was approximately 80,500.

: the contact stated while driving at speeds of 20mph or more there was a roaring noise coming from the rear end of the vehicle. Initially the contact suspected the tires needed replaced. The vehicle was inspected by an independent tire repair shop. The repair shop mechanic suggested the vehicle should be inspected by an authorized dealer because it was determined there were no problems with the tires. The mechanic suggested the noise could possibly be associated with the rear suspension. Updated 7/13/2006 -.
After several months of hearing a "whooshing" tire sounds from the back of the 02 Ford expl XLT, and dealers telling us that nothing was wrong, took vehicle to a local service center and had to have rear suspension/axles replaced (4/04) and also had to replace the 2 back tires because of the damage. Now, 1/05, same noise is present and wear on back tires, we are now being told that the back suspension/axles are bad again and need to be replaced. Less than one year and we have the same problem. Obviously Ford needs to look into this problem. Vehicle had 78k miles on it.
Squeaking noise would come from front suspension system while driving. Vehicle been to the dealer on three occasions, and the problem still reoccurring. Feel free to provide any further information.
