While driving on the highway at 70 mph my husband noticed our 1999 Ford Explorer not driving right. He pulled onto a side road to take the scenic route home. He was going 50 mph, with our 3 year old in the car, and the sidewall blew completely off the tire. The entire sidewall separated from the tread and bead. Thank goodness it was the back passenger tire that blew otherwise the outcome would have been different. As it was nobody was hurt. He could barely control the SUV as it was. The tire has only barely 6000 miles on it. When we called the store where it was purchased they said even though we paid for the road hazard we still had to pay for a new tire.

While traveling at highway speed of 70-mph on smooth pavement I experienced a tire blowout. No road hazard was noted. The tire exhibited significant side wall deterioration at the bead and the perpendicular site wall separation. The side wall separated from the bead for approximately one quarter of the diameter. This is the second incident for this vehicle, tire brand/model, and dot number. The tire carcass has been retained for inspection until June 30 2009. . Read more...

While traveling at about 30-mph on smooth pavement I experienced tire failure. No road hazard was noted. When I removed the failed tire I was shocked by the extent of side wall deterioration at the bead and the perpendicular site wall separation. The side wall separated from the bead for approximately one quarter of the diameter. . Read more...
Tire inspection revealed significant side wall deterioration at the bead. The tire was still holding air, however, the condition of the side wall & bead indicated catastrophic failure was imminent. The tire was removed from service. This is the third tire to exhibit bead & side wall deterioration for this vehicle, tire brand/model, and dot number. The tire carcass has been retained for inspection until June 30 2009. . Read more...
Drivers front tire developed a hairline crack between the sidewall and the bead, most of the way around the wheel. Obviously defective from new. Confirmed by tire dealer. Once removed also found similar cracks on the inside between the bead and sidewall. Had all4 tires replaced as a safety precaution. Have requested refund from firestone. The recall must be stepped up to include vn tires. This could have caused a serious accident if not found and the tire blew. (dot number: vnhl1py230 tiresize: p235/75r15).

All 4 tires developed cracks in every other cleat where the tread joins the tire casing and along the beads. There was no tread separation but I felt it was imminent. Portsmouth Ford did not want to inspect the tires untill I insisted. They then told me I would have to wait for the next available appointment which was 2 weeks away. I finally called the national Ford customer service number. They would not even talk to me about the defective tires untill I verbally forced a customer service agent to take a formal complaint. The people at the firestone national 800 number would not give me any information about warrrantee replacement. I had to locate a firestone tire service center in manchester, nh. Firestone offered to replace the tires allowing 50% tread wear. The problem is they could not provide replacement tires for 5-6 months. To sum this up, I purchased 4 tires of another brand today. I have the lot number of the defective tires: vncu1tx048 (all 4 the same lot) I took digital pictures of the defects and have my receipts. ( dot number: not known tire size: 255/70r16 ).

An unusual noise was coming from the vehicle. The local Ford dealer stated that all four firestone tires were separating from the rim at the bead!!!! they also stated that I was fortunate to not have had a catistrophic failure at interstate highway speeds on my 360 mile trip back to my home. The Ford dealer also stated that they had not seen this type of failure before. Firestone will also be notified of these failures. ( dot number: vnhlipm276 tire size: 235r15 ).

Our car rolled over after being struck in the right rear , both tires on driver side seperated from rims. This caused the car to roll over. Other 2 tires while having debris in bead areas did not seperate from rim( dot number: unk tire size: p23575r15 ).
Traveling on interstate at 70 mph. Left front tire came apart. Able to control vehicle to the side of the road. Upon inspection of the remains, which included the tread but no side wall, it was apparent that there was no cut, puncture or other external damage that would be cause for the blowout. I took the remains to the firestone store from which I purchased the tires and the manager agreed with me that the tire had failed at the sidewall , and involved an apparent high temperature. The tire was replaced with a new tire. That tire along with the others are showing, in my opinion, a strange pattern of "wear" on the sidewalls and near the bead. These tires were purchased brand new in Nov. 1999. These tires are not the size tires that are involved in recall as of 8-14-00, but I believe them to be faulty. They should also be recalled in the interest of safety. Thank you. ( dot number: 000 tire size: p255/70r16 ).

Both the Ford dealer and tire dealer indicated that the defect was caused by a road hazzard. However, there was no damage to the rim. The bead or bubble extended from the rim to the tread and was about two inches wide and about 3/4" high. I replaced the tire with the spare and used the defective tire as the spare. During my last servicing, it was noted that the spare was flat. No reason was given by the dealer. This defect has made the tires suspect and made my wife very nervous about driving the vehicle. This size should be included in the recall. ( dot number: tire size: p255/70r16 ).
Vehicle was equipted with firestone atx tires ( p235/75r15). Tires were causing vehicle to vibrate, found out that cords were bad in the tire. They eventualy blew out. Dealer was contacted.
Tire came off wheel and deflated causing rollover . I think wheel has a design problem causing the bead to seperate from wheel when rounding corners( dot number: tire size: 235-75 ).
