1 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 2018 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 04/13/2022

I notice that my car is sliding in somewhat wet terrain situations. I did notice it last year but didn't think at 24k miles my tire treads were bad. I had my car serviced and they are telling me at 32k miles I need new tires and they are bad. These tires are warranted for 50k miles. There are rubber tears at the tread and well as complete baldness. Terrible! had I been driving much this winter there would no doubt be a incident. These are a issue on all 4 tires. I see there are many complaints with these hankook ventus noble tires. Something needs to be done or recalled. We are the consumer. Protect us!.

When I took the car to get serviced for the first time (about a month after I bought it) I was told the tires were bald and the car was deemed unsafe to drive - they could not believe I was driving around with such bad tires. 22 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 1996 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 05/09/2006

I own a 1996 Ford Explorer. On may 9, 2006, I took it to a Ford dealer for a safety inspection (the multi-point inspection report card as recommended by Ford motor company) all four tire were marked on the tread depth scale in the green 7/32 or greater box. Later that same evening after school let out I proceeded on a trip. I left tucson, az around 5:30 to 6:00pm got no farther than yuma az when the tread from my right rear tire completely separated from the steel belt underneath tearing the rear right bumper off, the bumper area underneath the door was hanging on the ground and big black circular marks were on the back passenger door where the tread had hit during separation. The event itself was horribly frightening for us as well as my 3 children. Thank the lord we did not wreck and there was no turnover of the vehicle. We were able to change the tire with a spare but the damage was already done to the vehicle. The tire was a firestone wilderness ht p225/70r15. I went back to the Ford dealer who had safety checked the tire and he said it was a defect in manufacturing and had no way of knowing when these things would happen. The dot code on the tire is w2uu ipo . 99. I contacted firestone who said the last 2 numbers would be the date the tire was manufactured. My questions are is this a common thing for these types of tires and what is the life span of that tire. Shouldn't I have been made aware that the tire was 7 yrs old or does it matter how old the tire is. I bought new tires (certainly not firestones) but I feel like I should have been made aware of the age of my tire if its simply checking a manufacturing date. That way I could have chosen to not put my families life in jeopardy!!.

24 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 2000 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 06/26/2005

Bought a set of continantal tires for my 2000 Ford ranger. After using the tires for sometime (approx 40% ware) I noticed a slight shaking with the vehicle. I took the vehicle into the same shop I got the tires and had them rotated and the front end aligned. The vehicle immediately started to get worse. I was waiting for my next day off but the day before my day off I was traveling at 75 mph on I-95 in palm bay, florida and the tread on the right rear tire seperated. Although I was able to maintain control of the vehicle it did turn sideways on the road three times and at one point I was up on only two tires. Upon checking I found that all tires were inflated but the tire tread on the right rear side had seperated from the tire. That same day I returned to the tire shop and had the manager look at the tire. He said that the tire shoulg not have done what it did with that short amount of miles on it. He said that firestone would replace the tires and repair the damage done to the right rear area of my truck bed. I was instructed to call the the firestone clames officer which I did on the morning of 06-27-05. Also on that date I was contacted by the tire dealer that firestone would not handle the clame as the tires were "continantal". I had to call contintal and they were not very helpful. After a very long conversation they finally agreed to cover a new set of tires with a 60% discount. I got firestone tires. They are also insisting that I send them the defective tire for their examination to see if they would fix the damage to my truck. I do not think that I should send the evidence of their defective tire to them and loose custody of it. I asked if someone in florida could check the tire and they said no> I feel that the tire was defective, I feel that my life and safety was in question and I feel that contential tire company is attempting to conceal this by taking, or attempting, to take possession of the tire.

Then I heard a loud pop and my car started to fishtail across three lanes of traffic, missing a tractor trailer by about one foot. I finally handled the truck and pulled onto the side of the interstate. I proceeded to get out of my vehicle to try to control my nerves and try to figure out what happened. I walked over to the rear passenger side of my vehicle and the entire tread of my tire was gone. It was strewn about. The tire other than the tread was in perfect condition. It was the full size spare on the car when I bought it and it had only been driven on for aprox. 6 months with no problems. I proceeded to look at the side of my vehicle and my sidestep was missing, and my car was dented up. It looks terrible. The scratches start at the rear passenger door and went all the way to the back of the vehicle. I do not have the money to fix my car. The incident was not my fault. My car is well taken care of. I have to take care of it because I have three children. This is my only mode of transportation. The firestone that was on my car is model, p235/75 r15 atx.
