The first tire I had problems with was the front right tire that kept going flat, I had it checked to be fixed when the service man showed me the defect in the tire. The inside of the tire had a slit or where the seam was splitting all the way around the tire, only on the inside. I had to replace the tire and went ahead and replaced the front left tire as well. Two weeks later driving my three children and my grandmother to go school shopping my back left tire blew. Luckily I was on a dirt road and only driving about 20mph. Upon changing the tire I noticed the same seam rippage or slit on the inside of the tire so I immediately checked the right back tire and found the same thing on it. So I have 3 out of the 4 tires on my 2004 Ford Explorer that have this defect. Its very disturbing to think what might have happened if we had been on the highway when this happened and that both back tires might have blown. I have been researching these tires and so far have not found any recalls on this specific tire. Goodyear, wrangler sr-a, p235/70r16 104s.

We had two incidents of tire blow outs in 4 months the last one occurring on oct 12, 2008. The cause of both blow outs was the tire stem but we did not hear about the recall until I heard it on the news today. We have since bought new tires afraid that it would happen again but what can we do now? I feel like we should be compensated but how? the Ford dealer we bought the tires from is out of business so we could not go there when we realized that it was a tire stem problem and without knowing there was a recall we had no option but to go somewhere else which was american tire. We went to american tire both times it happened for them to fix the tires and they did not mention a recall either. The tires were not old enough to be replaced but for our own safety we did that. I guess I know there is nothing you can do but just wanted to get some advise of what to do, if anything. Thanks, patty
p. S. No crash, no deaths, thank goodness.

The right rear tire experienced a blowout, which caused the vehicle to roll over. (tire by michelin) there was a cut found in the inside of the sidewall. The vehicle pulled to the left, veered harshly to the right, and the right rear tire had shredded, which was a firestone tire. (the front tires were moved to the rear and replaced the front tires with the spare a new tire. In October 2000, all of the tires were replaced with michelin tires).

I was traveling on I 69 near indianapolis, in, when left rear tire blew out at the area where tread meets sidewall. I nearly lost control of vehicle but was able to slow and get off road, nearly rear ended by a large semi truck following too closley. These tires were replacement by Ford motor because of the problem with firestone original equipment tires. I was afraid to drive with these general tires because of the blowout. I requested the Ford dealer who replaced the firestone tires with general tires to replace all 4 tires with new tires, but they refused. I was told that if they replaced tires in these situations they would have to go out of business. It seems they are more concerned with their finances than the safety of myself and my family. I have since purchased 4 new michelin tires at my own expense and feel much safer. I was disappointed with the way I was treated in this matter, it was not through any fault of my own. The dealer even sugguested that I may have caused damage to the tires when parallel parking by hitting the curb, but I do not parallel park this vehicle and I am the only driver. I think Ford should reimburse me for the $600 I spent so I may drive a safe vehicle.
