Driving down the NJ turnpike the dashboard started displaying lane assist no longer available along with a check engine light. Once stopped the front of the car had been burned with parts of the bumper melted. No visible fire at that time. Had the vehicle towed to holman Ford. They assessed the damage to the Explorer and it was determined that the front facing camera had shorted causing an electrical fire that damaged the camera and front bumper writing harness along with the engine wiring harnesses. The car has been deemed a total loss due to the fire. The vehicle on has 67000 miles on it to date.

To whom it may concern the rack and pinion in my 2016 Ford Explorer fail 3 times one before I bought my truck from the dealer the person who trade it in was because of the rack and pinion. The rack and pinion on my truck that I purchased from the dealer. Gave out two three years later. After I purchased my truck, I replace. The rack and pinion it cost me 1300 dollars. And now it fails again. I don't have another 1300 dollars to purchase. Another rack and pinion I believe that it's an electoral problem from the manufacture. Of the Ford Explorer.
July 28,2022 while driving on the highway at 55mph the power steering began to fail. It didn't fail completely but the steering felt awkward. I slowed up considerably. Fortunately I was less than 2 miles to my home. As I was getting home a power steering warning light illuminated and then went off. Not sure exactly what it said as I was too busy driving. At that point the power steering hadn't failed completely but still felt awkward (I would say the steering alternated between smooth steering and like the steering wheel was starting to lock in place). I managed to get to my driveway. I shut the SUV off and called the local Ford dealership. They advised restarting the SUV and to see if the power steering returned. It didn't. It was completely locked up at that point and I couldn't even turn the steering wheel. I called a tow truck and had it towed to the closest Ford dealership. Russ hubler automotive in greensburg indiana. The dealer called on July 29, 2022 and said the power steering had failed. I'm not a mechanic so I don't know the mechanical details but they said it wasn't the electric steering motor or module. It would cost about $2,200. 00 to fix. As of today August 1, 2022 it is sitting at the dealership waiting on parts to be repaired. As I did more research I found that many other people had reported the same problem. I called Ford customer service on August 1, 2002 and spoke to a rep and then finally her supervisor. They refused to help. I was on the phone with them for 46 minutes. The supervisor finally admitted the power steering was a recall issue but it did not as yet include my VIN number even though I had the exact same experience as hundreds of other owners. She advised filing this report with the NHTSA and the bbb. She admitted that Ford was not to going to address this issue until they were required to by the NHTSA. She advised saving my receipts so that if and when the recall included my VIN number I could be reimbursed. Disappointed in Ford.
Upon taking off, in a busy intersection during lunch time traffic in town, a "steering assist failure" and chime came on at the same time the power steering failed. While the steering was just shy of locked, I was able to avoid hitting oncoming traffic and aim the Explorer into a parking lot directly in my path. I put on my hazards (they should come on automatically in such instances) and the other motorists were kind and allowed me to do so since traffic around and behind me had to come to a stop. Even at a healthy 250 lbs and 6'4", it was a serious struggle to make even a small change in the angle of the steering wheel. The Explorer is my wife's vehicle and I just happened to be with her that day, prepping the vehicle for our son to take over as his since he starts college in the fall. I shudder to think what could've happened had either of them been driving it when this happened. There were no prior indications, no odd noises, no roughness in the steering, no flashes of imminent failure, no notice of the possibility of this happening from Ford, just the sudden and dangerous loss of steering. We've owned this vehicle since it had ~54,000 we've loved the whole time, but this incident has caused us to lose faith in it. Even repaired, I don't see myself putting my wife or son into it with any confidence in their safety.

Previous complaint of 11394378, they tried to fix it by changing valve body for transmission. That didn't work so now I'm needing a new transmission. Been with them for over a month. They are working on it, but still an issue at this time.
