Tl-the contact owns a 2003 Ford explore sport. The contact stated that while driving at 50 mph,an loud noise was heard while the sun roof exploded without warning. No injuries where sustained. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000. The VIN was not available. Ec.
I noticed the rear window lift gate was slightly ajar, so I closed it, and suddenly the hinge bracket on the right side, connecting the window at the roof, popped loose, extending the window lift support, making it now impossible to close the back lift gate glass. I checked into the issue, and found a recall, campaign # 04v442000. This hinge has never been replaced. I want to have this fixed under recall.
Body mounts have deteriorated , mechanics I have had look at this said , should never happen , is unsafe and they see it all the time on this year and model also have learned that this problem cause windshield to crack when I applied hard breaking.
The contact owns a 2003 Ford Explorer Sport. While driving at an unknown speed, the body mount emitted an abnormal noise and was deteriorating. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000.
2001 Ford Explorer Sport. During normal driving, a rear rattle/ banging noise would occur when going over rough road or over bumps. This has progressively gotten worse over time. Investigation and inspection of the vehicle had revealed that all the body/frame mount bushings have deteriorated to the point that they were crumbling, leaving no support/cushion between body and frame. This could potentially make the vehicle unsafe as there would be no support for the body, cause excessive body movement and a shift in the vehicle weight dynamics. This issue has already been reported in several vehicle safety complaints prior to mine.

All body bushings were defective and had to be replaced. The bushings were desiccated and had crumbled away. This made the vehicle unsafe when cornering as there was nothing to support the weight of the body between it and the frame causing excessive movement and compromise of center of gravity. According to the mechanic who replaced my bushings, he had seen this defect on all the vehicles of this make and model year. He said that it was not a problem on the 1998 Ford Explorer Sport. I went to a local junk yard and looked at several Ford Explorer Sports and noticed the same defect on all the 2001 model years. The 1998 model year had bushings that were still in good condition.
The rear lift gate on my explorer cracked on the left side of the Ford emblem. The gate cracked during normal operation of the vehicle. I have a habit of looking over my vehicle. The crack was discovered when I inspected my vehicle before going into my home. On my next service visit I asked my Ford dealer if there had been a recall for this defect. I was told that Ford had not generated a recall for this defect. There may be thousands of explorers with this defect, I see them every day. I am very disappointed with the Ford company for not taking care of this defect. I have purchased my last Ford.

Was driving the vehicle when I noticed smoke coming out from under the hood. I pulled over as quick as possible into a strip mall parking lot. Before I got out flames were coming out of the engine compartment. I ran into a store and got a fire extinguisher to try and put out the fire. I failed, as the whole front of the explorer was in flames as well as the interior. The vehicle is a total loss. The fire department put it out. I had the vehicle for 7 weeks. The used dealer will not take any responsibility. Should they? I purchased the vehicle on Mar. 3,2014 at oc auto expo in westminster, CA.
On the morning of 1/29/14 I was at the market ,came out to load my items into the vehicle , opened the rear lift gate at about the 1/3 open point the glass exploded into a million pieces . Which in turn sent shards of glass into my face ,hands , head and eyes . They were minor injuries but I'm still extracting glass from my head and hands and there is still glass embedded in my hands . I have an apt with my dr only because there is glass in my eyes. My mother was with me but she was at the side of the vehicle so she didn't get nailed . I have never seen a window explode like this, this is a serious hazard and needs to be recalled ASAP before it kills someone , the power of the flying glass was unreal some of it went through 3 -12 packs of soda with ease. Also I have no resources to get a new window as they are around 700 dollars . So this is what I get from Ford for being a loyal customer ?.
Window feel and shattered into a million pieces. After contacting my insurance to have the glass replaced I found out the reason for the incident was due to a faulty hinge. I was told by the glass company that the hinge failed due to electrolysis (two different metals reacting with each other). I feel this is the same issue that happened with Ford recall manufacturer campaign number: 04s20, however my VIN does not pull up this issue code and therefore I am not receiving assistance from Ford with this manner. After doing research online I have found many other owners of my same make and model who have experienced the same issue. I feel this needs to be officially addressed as I was driving when my glass fell, but was fortunate that there was no one behind me when it happened. Otherwise I am 100% positive it would have caused an accident.
Severe clanking/banging noise in passenger rear. Replaced shocks. Noise worsened. Researched and found numerous complaints regarding body mounts with Ford Explorer Sport vehicles. Upon investigation - reaching up under vehicle found no "body insulator left on passenger side rear and on driver rear the insulator crumbled like dirt and fine powder. The body mounts appeared to be manufactured of a foam like material - substandard at best! replacement parts must be purchased through Ford since no other aftermarket parts are available. Parts only (that being able to salvage the bolts and sleeves) and purchase the two pair of insulators only - $680. 00. The same material that failed and should not. There are vehicles on the road with body mounts for 40 to 50 years. This is a manufacturer's responsibility and the cost for these parts is thievery. It is unsafe to operate a vehicle without repairing defective body mounts due to the possibility of body roll or other loss of control. Since the mounts should not fail throughout the life of the vehicle I sincerely request an investigation be launched into the multiple complaints being filed for the years 2001-2003 Ford Explorer Sport body mounts.
Driving 65 mph, lost contol of my vehicle while switching lanes to avoid a high speed vehicle approaching behind me. Ran in to a median 2 times before stopping faced traffic head on. Fortunately, I wasn't critically injured, but serious enough. Neither air bag deployed!!!! I would like to know why not????.
The contact owns a 2003 Ford Explorer Sport. The contact stated that he noticed that the rear lift gate hinges were loose and the contact was concerned that the rear glass window would fall from the vehicle. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer or an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was contacted and advised him that the vehicle was not included in a manufacturer's recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unavailable. The current mileage was approximately 153,000.
There is a vertical crack on the rear of the vehicle starting underneath the window. Length of about 2 to 3 inches. Just seemed to appear. Was not there one day then there the next. ## VIN failed.

Rear door glass hatch hinges came off. This was my wifes vehicle driven very little until she passed away 2009. Then it was driven even less. Back hatch glass was never used as far as I know. She always used the metal door. I drove it to grocery store, put groceries in back using large door. When I got home I just grabbed glass hatch handle by mistake,it came off in my hand. Both hinges were broken. I don't know forhowlong, the latch was all that kept it in place. When the latch opened it exploded outward ,resulting in badly damaged paint and both rear defroster wires to be torn off glass. Luckily it was me and not my wife, could have been a lot worse. Lift cylinders were so strong I could not put it back in place, had to yell for neighbors for help!had it repaired local Ford dealer. Told me about recall for models except sport. No recall for it. $150. 50(not including paint) for repairs & 10 days @ dealer. It now has 71,800 miles glass hatch never used,it has broken drivers side hinge again. 07/28/2014. Have not contacted dealer again as of this time. But I plan to express my concerns for such inadequate replacement parts. Any help would be appreciated. This vehicle was purchased new, never abused and well maintained.
Body mount bushings complete failure. All mounts fail. Mounts fall completely apart and nothing left except for washers and bolts. This can causes body to move on frame. . Have made Ford motor aware but no action taken.
My 2001 Ford Explorer Sport trac's body mount cushion has deteriorated and I can't drive the vehicle without an expensive (remove the body off of the truck) procedure and very expensive parts. This should last the lifetime of a vehicle. This should be a safety recall issue. Thank you, [xxx] attorney at law, maui, hawaii information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 1999 Ford Explorer Sport. The contact was driving approximately 35 mph in rainy weather conditions and the windshield wipers failed to operate during activation. The windshield wipers would operate whenever the windshield washer control device was engaged. Also, the windshield wipers operated when manually turning the control lever. On numerous occasions, the windshield wipers activated unintendedly while in the off mode. In addition, the hood support arm would not remain in an upward position. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 76,500.

I just purchased a used 2002 Ford Explorer Sport on 08/06/2011 so that I had a vehicle that I could take the kids on camping trips. On 09/04/2011 on our way to daytona beach I noticed the car was pushing and swerving in both directions, I had just put brand new tires on it and replaced both the upper control arms and all 4 ball joints and had an alignment done, I thought that it's a bigger vehicle than what I'm used to and had been a slightly windy. On the way home on Monday 09/05/2011 it was even worse, I could feel the body rolling the car pushing ect. . I pulled over and checked the front suspension. There appeared to be nothing wrong. I crawled home a nervous wreck. When we unlaode the car at home I noticed the car was sagging in the left rear. I crawled under the vechile. I noticed 2 big issuses, 1st the coil spring is broken were lucky it didn't pop out and shred a tire, and 2nd all of the body mount bushings are completely crumbling or just plain gone. Talk about dangerous. I went online and there seems to be thousands of complaints for the 2002 explorers on blogs and Ford forums and tons of sites for complaints for automobiles for all models of this vehicle for the exact same things. I have also seen numerous other complaints on this vehicle for other equipment failures one of them being a whining noise coming from the rearend of the car which I thought was the tires, but apparently it is an improperly engineered differential that Ford will not fix or admit that there is a problem with although there are a couple of technical bulletins out on it. They are just lucky that my children were not injured. How dare they not accept any responsibility to take care of these vehicles that they engineered and sold, used or not. If you manufacture an unsafe vechile and a defective vechile you shold be responsible. Is it gonna take a father and his children being killed.
2001 Ford Explorer Sport - the body mount isolators are completly deterioated as reported by others. All body mount isolators will crumble upon simple hand pressure. Ford has discontinued manufacturer of these replacements. If available from Ford motor company, list on parts alone is >+ $600. 00 for set of eight upper and lower isolators. Failure @ 86,524 miles.
The contact owns a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport. The contact stated that the body bushings were rotting. The contact stated that the body of the vehicle was loose from the frame. The contact then called the manufacturer regarding the frame and the manufacturer advised that there were no recalls for the failure. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer or a local mechanic for inspection or repairs. The failure mileage was 126,000.
I was driving and heard loud noise. Sounded like the back window hatch was open and vibrating with every bump in the road. The hatch was closed, so I looked under the vehicle to find the body mounts had completely crumbled away. The body of the vehicle was riding on the frame with no cushion. The body of the vehicle was very hard to handle and felt as if it may shift off the frame at anytime. ## VIN passed ## Ford Explorer Sport 2001 ##.
Ford explorer cracked read panel.
The Ford Explorer Sport has a rear hatch that includes a glass section that has the ability to be opened to load items into the trunk area of the vehicle. Three separate times the rear windshield has blown out as it has been opened / closed. The rear windshield is made of tempered glass and when it breaks it explodes into the person operating the window. There has not been any injuries besides a few small cuts, but having glass explode into a person is dangerous. After the first failure the glass was simply replaced. The first failure occurred as the rear glass was opened. After the second failure, the car was brought to a Ford dealership to fix the issue. The second failure occurred as the glass was closed. The third failure occurred 12/1/2013, it has yet to be fixed. This most recent failure occurred as the glass was closed.
Left hinge on the back glass keeps falling off. I have replaced it 3 times now and Ford keeps saying there is no problem with it. They say it must be something I'm doing to it. The right hinge is fine.
Opened the rear window (hatch) and the right side flew up - the hinge had disengaged from the body of the vehicle. Located on NHTSA. Gov #04v442000 which covers the same problem - was told by dealer my vehicle did not fall under this recall (04s20) and I would have to pay for the repair.
The rear lift glass hinges on our 2004 Ford explorer broke during use of the lift glass. The pin broke right through the hinge. We were not driving it at the time thankfully, and also caught the glass before it had a chance to hit the ground.
The contact owns a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport. The contact was driving 15 mph when a banging sound was heard from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was found that the body mounts had disintegrated from the vehicle due to corrosion. The manufacturer was contacted but the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 100,000.
The back end bumps and thumps like there is no padding between the metal on metal parts. Very loud in the vehicle always.
I have a 2005 Ford explorer. There is a bonding issue on the roof. The paint is separating and leaving the primer alone on the vehicle. Ford has ignored my requests for assistance. I purchased the truck 14 months ago as a certified preowned and brought this to their attention 4 months into my ownership. After the corporate office ignored my issue, I brought it to the dealership who said "it isn't our problem. ".
2001 Ford explorer body mounts. Completely deteriorated.
While driving the consumer heard a loud popping noise. The noise was caused by the #3 body reinforcement. The reinforcement broke loose on the right rear side of the cab. There's a TSB 630329 on this issue.
