1 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Failure Date: 08/13/2014

When I set the cruise control it will sometimes just turn off by itself without me touching the brake or anything. Usually I can hear a noise and the gas pedal will quickly move up. Once that happens then I can no longer set the cruise control.

2 Cruise Control problem of the 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Failure Date: 10/03/2011

Sitting at a stop sign vehicle went into acceleration gas peddle went to floor. Foot was on the brake. Checked no carpet stuck under the gas peddle. Foot was not touching gas peddle. It was almost like the cruise control was pressing the gas peddle. Cruise control was off. Shut vehicle off then back on issue went away. This has happened other times to myself and my wife. Sometimes while pushing the gas the gas peddle leaves your foot and continues to the floor on its own, pressing the brake and turning vehicle off seems to resolve the issue. This issue happens so in frequently that it is hard to reproduce for service shop.

4 Cruise Control problem of the 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Failure Date: 02/14/2008

I was notified by Ford that I had a problem with my speed control on my 2001 Ford sport trac and requested me to bring my car in to get it replaced. When I took my truck in in August I was told that the part was not in stock and to bring it back in December. I just called the dealership and they are now telling me the part is not in and they have no clue when it is going to be in. Frankly it appeared to me they didn't care. When I asked who I could escalate it to at Ford the gentleman did give me the number, but told me it wouldn't do any good because Ford couldn't do anything about it.

5 Cruise Control problem of the 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Failure Date: 10/01/2007

Fords recall on the defective cruise control switch is a scam in my opinion. I received a recall notice in, I believe it was October 2007. The local dealer unplugged the cruise control and said that they would make repairs when the parts became available. The repair is to put a fuse in line with the switch. This, in no way, repairs the defective part. The addition of a fuse, as related to me by the dealer, has now also been recalled. That is a mute point because Ford has not yet been able to supply the part/fuse. Today is the 28th of February 2008. I have been waiting, and unable to use my cruise control since the dealer disconnected it in October of 2007. I have learned that there is a replacement part available that Ford is installing in some vehicles. The local dealer tells me that my 2001 explorer sportac is not included. I was told that I could replace the part myself but Ford would not install it under the recall for no charge even if I paid for the part. The part # is sw-6350 the local dealer has 21 of these switches in stock today. Because Ford has not allowed the use of this part in its recall, we the consumers are left in a position of either not using something we paid for or risking a fire. I am appalled by the lack of action on this matter. I believe that the nhsta needs to apply the pressure to Ford to resolve this inaction. There is an how to article at mysportac. Com. It includes instructions and photo's possibly you could ask Ford to check it out. Thank you david m. Clary.

According to Ford dealerships the part is not available at this time. This is a safety issue with me due to the fact that I park my truck in my garage that is attached to my home. 14 Cruise Control problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Failure Date: 08/01/2007

Ford safety recall notice received approx 6 months ago. Apparently the cruise control system likes to start fires. I continue to be told by the dealer the parts necessary to prevent the failure are 'not available'. This is incredible. How is Ford allowed to get away with thousands of vehicles on the road that can catch fire at any time? obviously, given how much time has gone by, Ford is thumbing their nose at both the consumer and the government.

17 Cruise Control problem of the 1998 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Failure Date: 01/26/2006

On January 26th, 2006 at 3am our 1998 Ford explorer exploded in 33 degree weather after sitting in the driveway for 15 hours. The fire caused my vehicle, a 1994 Buick century to catch fire as well. Both vehicles were totaled. The fire investigator ruled the fire as and "unknown cause" and ruled out arson or foul play. We believe this spontaneous fire was caused by the defective cruise control switch on the Ford explorer due to the quickness and fierceness of this blaze. Due to quick thinking we saved and prevented the fire from spreading to our home.

21 Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Failure Date: 02/15/2005

I have a 2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac with cruise control. I have complained several times regarding the fact that it does not disengage immediately. In an emergency situation it takes a full second or more for it to disengage after the breaks are applied. I have been told by the dealer that this is normal, that my vehicle has electronic cruise control that is controlled by a cable driven by an electric motor and not a vacuum control like most cars. If this is true it is a very dangerous situation since I have had to veer off the road when traveling at high speed on a highway and someone pulled into my lane abruptly where if the cruise disengaged when I hit the brakes there would have been plenty of time to avoid a collision or a close call. However, after hitting the brakes I was fighting the continual acceleration, or slow deceleration of the engine. My other cars dump immediately, in fact the accelerator pedal hits your foot if its there, not so with the Ford.
