1 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Failure Date: 02/13/2020

Issue Feb 2018 - present I bought my 2nd- hand 2007 Ford sport trac in February 2018, from the original owner. We had experienced 2 cat-five hurricanes; power and internet was almost nonexistent, so I could not research the truck. On the second day after my purchase, while driving down a street at about 30 mph, it stalled. I had very little breaks and no steering. When I tried to crank it, it would turn over but not fire. For the last two years, I have had no luck fixing the issue. Upon research, there are hundreds of blogs/ questions / attempts to repair from owners trying to fix the same issue. One blog said that it had been requested for Ford to do a recall, but Ford denied that there was an issue. It may drive great for 3 weeks and then when you are driving straight down a steep, curvy mountain in traffic, it turns off with no way to stop quickly or control the steering. If you drive too slowly or someone pulls in front of you and drives 5 miles an hour, it will stop. If you punch the gas pedal to get out of the way of a dangerous situation, it will often stall. Sometimes it won't drive, and then it surges forward. It often sounds like the fuel is running rich. You never know when it will happen so you are always in danger. I have changed out the starter switch, shift linkage, just about every sensor, pump, filter, wiring, egr valve, throttlebody another original owner on island said he's ready to drive his off of a cliff after dealing with this problem for three years. His truck is a 2010 I believe. I checked back with him recently. He changed out his computer system and it is now running properly for the moment. I can't sell my truck bc my ethics won't allow it. I can't trash it bc I need to sell it to buy another. I bought the truck to be safe. It has done nothing but placed me in danger and depleted my wallet.

3 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Failure Date: 05/26/2011

Engine & multiple parts in 2003 Ford are not 2003, they are 2001 & 2002. 2002 engine and earlier had a TSB for the timing chain guides & oiling. Even though taken into the dealership with that complaint, mine was supposed to be 2003, not affected by those problems, so service did not repair for TSB. Later on timing jumped because guides not replaced, bent valve and ruined the engine to tune of $5,000, plus parts spent to get to that point & rental cars. Should be noted the first replacement motor installed by Ford ran only 15 minutes before it blew from timing chain defect/poor manufacturing. History: before end of 75,000 mile extended warranty I took the sport trac into the dealer to take care of all the little complaints. One complaint was slight rattle type of sound when the car was cold/cold morning. Dealer suggested an engine flush & to switch to full synthetic oil. That did help for several thousand miles. Engine rattle came back, only very occasional but worse sound than before on real cold mornings. Was coasting toward red light, light changed & I gave it gas, engine started missing severely as I took off w/check engine light coming on. Limped the car home. Put code reader on & started replacing parts called for, mostly tune up, then egr components, etc. , new code thrown after every repair. Smog parts for 2003 did not fit, I had to take the parts back & exchange them for 2001. When engine was changed service rep told me engine in car was 2002, even had to replace thermostat housing because routing was different, angle incorrect, not 2003, I took pictures of block & #'s, not a 2003, it is 2002 (pictures show my engine, no dirt accumulation at all). Carb states I cannot install an engine older than the chassis into the car, most especially older smog components. Can Ford? can Ford sell a car as new, specific model year, but use leftover parts from previous years & still call it a new car? isn't this fraud? how can vehicle be repaired, tsbs followed, etc. ?.

5 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Failure Date: 09/09/2004

Drove home, garbage pick-up missed our house. Grab the can ,and put in back of Ford sport trac. . Tried to catch the garbage truck down a dirt road. When all of a sudden the front hood on my sport trac came open. Also having problems when turning on air-conditioner. I beleive same type of parts or components used in previous years Ford explorer sport. . . Ranging back to 98 or further. Probably same types recalled or complained about in those years problems with defects. . I have found that my 2001 Ford sport trac was actually made in late year of 2000.

6 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Failure Date: 10/06/2003

While traveling from williamsburg/new port news, va my engine light came on and I pulled off the road to have the problem looked at. It is a poor flow for the egr valve. According to documentation in various engine reference books failure of the valve could cause erratic engine surges and potential other related problems to include failure of the power plant. There are apparently no replacement parts available for the 4. 0l v-6 which is a common engine in the ranger and explorer models. The vehicle currently has 42000 highway miles and receives regular maintenance. I am concerned about the low life of this part under normal wear and tear and conditions, as well as the safety and environmental impact that the part failure could cause.
