Auxillary Tank problems of the 1996 Ford F-150

Five problems related to auxillary tank have been reported for the 1996 Ford F-150. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Auxillary Tank problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2002

Rear tank is pumping gas to front tank, causing it to over flow out. When filling the rear tank most of the fuel was pumped into the front tank causing the gas cap to fly off when the consumer removed it.

2 Auxillary Tank problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2002

A portion of the unused fuel from rear tank to be returned to the front tank, when this occurred the capacity of the front tank was exceeded which caused fuel spillage. Dealer notified that vehicle year was not included in recall. Consumer could smell gas at various times. Spilled fuel can result in a fire when exposed to a source of the ignition. Manufacturer notified but was not willing to do anything.

3 Auxillary Tank problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2000

Consumer was traveling on highway and smelled gasoline. Gas gauge didn't work. He pulled over, and lifted hood. Vehicle has two tanks, and front tank was full, gasoline was going into vapor recovery . Dealership was aware of problem.

4 Auxillary Tank problem

Failure Date: 03/10/1999

Rear fuel tank leaks & drips on tail pipe. I think this is because dirt & salt lay on the front of tank on top of plate that protects the bottom side of tank. The tank rusts out along this front edge.

5 Auxillary Tank problem

The rear tank pushes fuel into the full front tank and then the fuel goes out onto the ground. Please describe.
