40 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2002

Around Feb 2002 my 1998 F-150 burned up while off in my driveway of my florida home. I had just come in and turned off the vehicle 3 or 4 minutes before when I had come outside to of all things use the garden hose and looked over to see my the right side (when viewed from t he front) of the hood on fire. I tried to put the fire out as I called 911. I was able to keep it to just the front of the vehicle until the fire fighters arrived. The investigators were unable to determine the source of the fire and we moved on with our lives. Only recently did I learn of the recall that relates to the cruise control of this vehicle type. I realize that at this point I probably have little recourse against Ford except to help the government take necessary action against them. Apparently according to the wsbtv. Com website (abc in atlanta) Ford knew about the problem in 1999 and did nothing about it. The truck was totaled and I received a fraction of the money I should have for the truck and my belongings that were damaged in the fire. Also I believe that my insurance went up due to no fault of my own. Thanks for your help.

45 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 11/22/1998

I was driving on an interchange ramp at approximately 50 mph. It was two lanes and a semi started to move over into my lane. I pressed on the accelerator to kick it into overdrive to get past the truck. All of a sudden, the accelerator went all the way to the floor and stuck there. The engine started revving at a high rpm. . I put the truck into neutral and kept coasting as there was no place to pull off. The engine was revving at 5000 rpm. After about 15 seconds, the accelerator returned to normal and the engine rpm's returned to normal. The way it happened was just as if the "resume" button on the cruise control had been pressed to resume speed after you slow down. . . . The accelerator depresses on its own and the truck gets back up to the set speed. However. . . The cruise control was off since I disticntly remember turning if off prior to getting into indianapolis. I referenced your site and found action number ea98018 to look very similar to this.

46 Cruise Control problem

Throttle unable to return to idle due to ice forming in throttle body. Recall campaign; id number : 98v007000. The consumer stated that he is having trouble with the cruise control not turning off when he presses on the brake pedal or hit the off button.

47 Cruise Control problem

Either while using cruise control or shut off cruise control is engaged, and used to pass another vehicle, vehicle will accelerate and continue to accelerate erratically. Driver must turn vehicle off in gear on straightway to gain control. Sometimes when this condition persists engine revs very high. Please describe details.

48 Cruise Control problem

The uneven idle is dangerous. I've had it repaired twice. I have been at a full stop with my foot on the brake and had the car idle up so suddenly and violently that the car jumps forward 2 feet before I can stop it. I have almost hit pedestrians crossing in front of the vehicle on several occaisions. I have to put the truck in park at stoplights or apply very heavy pressure to the brake to prevent this from happening. I've called Ford, taken it to three different dealers for repair, and the mechanic's all acknowledge they've seen the problem before on this truck but the central customer care people claim to have no record.

49 Cruise Control problem

Unable to disengage cruise control which causes an increase in speed.
