1 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2016

Truck was bought and I replaced all spark plugs and even had to replace a clinoid because was told that was the problem. Its not. . . There is a ball valve in the transmission that keeps the truck from building enough pressure to be able to shift which throws a code and says misfire on 6 been replaced twice now so clearly not the problem. This is a major issue. . Truck feels as if fixing to fie then check engine light will come on start flashing but throw no codes and you cant speed back up because it feels like your truck is about to die and you don't want to blow your motor.

2 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2016

I was driving through the country, and something felt odd. At approximately 45 mph, the truck started to shake, (more than normal) and was then vanish after 55 mph. After the next few days, the shaking got worse. My first thought, "I have a misfire on one of my cylinders". On my way home from work my truck through a check engine light. I then proceeded to take it to my dealer because at this point it would barely go over 40 mph. They checked the code and turns out that the truck has a number of problems; that what I have seen on this website are a very common issue with this year and engine type (5. 4l v8 tritton). I need new vct solenoids, new camphasers, timing adjustments, and new cam shaft position sensors. To make a long story short, the common problem that happens to this engine, happened yet again. Bad cam phasers. Happened around 138,4xx miles. Not sure if any previous owner replaced this part before or not. But, it seems even if replaced, the problem will still persist in the future. This is in need of recall.

3 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2015

Driving on interstate doing 70 mph (in fast lane) when truck stopped/stalled and I guess from research went into "limp mode". I was unable to press the gas pedal, it just shook three times each of which slowed it down incredibly, the check engine light was on and a wrench showed up, but the radio still worked. While trying to pull over almost wrecked (memorial day weekend and I was in fast lane). Finally able to pull over to side of road hysterical, shut off and waited a minute and it started. Drove rest of way home miles* with check engine light on and abs light on. I am scared to death to drive again. Not fun having a vehicle stall/quit whatever on interstate in rush hour traffic.

4 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2015

We have had our 2005 F-150 king ranch for about 10 years now. Today (Feb 10,2015), my wife and our one year babe were heading to the post office the truck displayed a message reading "engine failsafe mode". The truck lost all power, no steering, and it stall on the highway going about 65 mph. Luckily, she said there were vehicles behind her and she pulled it over with no steering and the engine dead. My wife then sat on the highway for about 10 minutes and tried to start the vehicle, which started and there were no "engine failsafe mode" on display anymore. Know with-in the last year our truck has had the check engine light and the abs light has come on and off every other month. I have checked the fuses and had replace a few but at time it is not the fuse. I've had the interior dim in and out and at times it does not work at all. By reading the f150. Net forum found out the a wire that splits into two wires was corroded on the passenger side floor board, it seems that condensation or water come in and stays in that pocket were that wiring harness goes thru. I am now terrified that truck will shut off on the highway again with my family and I in it. This seems to be a life threating problem. I have read thru some forums and it seems that people have called the Ford dealership and the service department claimed they have never heard of this problem, but can work on it if they bring it in. But that Ford claim that they fix the problem and the people says that the problem still exist. Hope some one can help or assist us in fixing this issue not just for our family but for others too. Sincerely airborne paratrooper! aatw!.

7 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2014

5. 4l truck always maintained and serviced at Ford dealerships. It was running perfect until it immediately began idling rough at a stop. No check engine light, we just know our truck. Took it in for a tune-up (replaced spark plugs, etc. ) and oil change. Perfect bill of health - couldn't replicate problem. Engine checked out diagnostically- perfect. They suggested it could be an intermittent sticking fuel injector, so we were going to get an additive to add to the fuel tank. Didn't make it that far. Drove it home - 35 miles - got home and engine stalled in driveway. Turned back on, engine died again. Long story short - towed it back to Ford - they were able to replicate the problem - oil pressure drops suddenly (intermittently)- pointing to cam phaser, timing area of engine - end result - need new engine - this one is shot at only 68k miles - estimated cost $7,400 plus tax. Extended warranty expired. Did some internet research, appears to be a common problem. These 5. 4l engines are breaking down left and right in these trucks. Don't know what changed. Had a 1999 expedition with a 5. 4l - great vehicle. Contacted Ford customer care - was told to keep all receipts in the event of a recall. An engine should not blow at 68k miles, especially a built Ford tough engine. We've owned Fords since high school and they used to be reliable, long driving vehicles.

8 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2011

The problem started in 2010, it now has happen three times this year my 2005 Ford F-150 supercab has without any warning, either lost all power or the engine was reduced to idle rpm at highway speeds. A total of five times this has happen since I bought the truck. Its happen in all typs of driving, highway speeds, city driving, acceleration and at a steady speed. I have had to maneuver across busy freeway lanes while coasting. In three of the incidents in which the engine stalled, I had to accomplish this without power steering or brakes. In another incident, the engine was idling so p/s and p/b were functioning, but there was no response to throttle inputs for acceleration. The check engine and "wrench" warning lights were illuminated on the dashboard. After turning off the ignition switch, the vehicle re-started and I was able to continue, the wrench light went off after restart, but the check engine light remained illuminated untill I have it reset. I been very fortunate that I have not been in an accident. This problem is intermittent and comes with absolutely no warning, it is clearly a safety issue. I now will not let my family drive the truck.

9 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2011

2005 Ford f150. Consumer states engine shuts off and vehicle continues to go into "fail safe mode" the consumer stated there were times when the vehicle would re-start, and other times it wouldn't. The consumer stated several components such as the fuel filter, catalytic converter, fuel pump module, throttle body, and crankshaft position sensor were replaced to try and rectify the problem. The engine began to misfire and the check engine light illuminated. The consumer stated it was finally determined, the casing on the crankshaft position sensor wire had rubbed through and was shorting out on the ac line running along the right fender well. The consumer stated at some point when his vehicle was being serviced at the dealer, a cover was removed from the far left wiring harness at the pcm, which permitted water to run down the inside of the wiring harness and shorted out the connector. Jb.

10 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Ford f150. While driving approximately 20 mph, the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection. The mechanic informed the contact that a spark plug had fractured in the head of cylinder five. The manufacturer was contacted and stated there were no recalls for the failure and suggested the contact keep all receipts for possible reimbursement if there was a recall in the future. The vehicle was not repaired and the VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 100,800.

11 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2010

At just over 59k miles on my 2005 F-150 5. 4l triton v8 driving at 30 mph I noticed a ticking sound that increased/decreased with rpms. Traveling about 2 miles further the noise increased in volume so I pulled over and raised the hood. The noise was coming form the passenger side of the motor and the motor was shaking as if miss firing or running iraticly. I had no engine warning light or any other notifications on the dash prior. I went directly to my mechanic. When my mechanic came out to see what was happening he knew right away what was going on. He has repaired this problem several times before. He said that I had blownout a least one spark plug. This is a known flaw with the triton v8 motors or rather the spark plug design that was put in the engine from the factory. The spark plug is a three piece design the is crimped together and ultimately cracks and separates over a period of time leading to literally blowing up. In some cases the threads in the motor where the spark plug screws in can be torn out. This requires re-tapping new threads or a heliocoil pack. This issue was not pointed out to me by Ford prior so I could prevent possible damage and very expensive repair costs as I know they are aware of this problem and that is very wrong. The manual provided by Ford with the truck says the spark plugs don't need to be changed until 100k. After further investigation online I found hundreds of others experiencing the same problem prior to 100k. I will be sending the bill to repair my truck to Ford through my attorney as this is negligent behavior and a faulty design flaw that I could not have prevented. Ford is sending owners of this motor down a path of guaranteed financial and potential physical harm. Ford needs to stand up and own this mistake.

12 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2010

2005 Ford f150, 5. 4 v-8 engine, 59,000 miles incident 1) 02/7/10 - upon accelerating away from a stop light while turning left, the truck accelerator pedal became inactive. Truck was moving at 25-30 mph. Additional pressure applied to the pedal caused no acceleration. Light traffic allowed me to coast to shoulder where I was able to put the truck in park. Truck faulted into 'limp mode' that limits the accelerator pedal operation (per manual), this was indicated by the 'wrench' light on the dash, no check engine light appeared. Turned the ignition off, waited a ~15 seconds and restarted. Upon restart 'wrench' light cleared and accelerator functioned as prior, again no check engine light appeared. Incident 2) 02/12/10 - while driving on a federal highway at 55 mph in right lane the same sequence as incident one above occurred ? the truck accelerator pedal became inactive. Being in the right-most lane I was able to coast on to the shoulder and avoid a rear-end collision. Same ?wrench? light was indicated on dash, same sequence was used to restart and drive off. This obviously could have been much worse had the situation been different, I. E. In high-speed lane or heavier traffic patterns. This is certainly a safety concern for driving public, both those in the f150 and on the road around them. Almost identical instances can be seen on NHTSA site for exact make/model/year truck. Administration should investigate and consider a safety recall to avoid future damage.

13 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2009

My truck is a 2005 Ford F-150 with 45,000 miles no prior problems serviced as per the Ford recommendations as well as regular oil changes. While on vacation getting off the freeway off ramp in reno nevada and coming to a stop at a red light my car started to shake and sputter as if it was going to turn off and the check engine light was on. After the light turned green I proceeded through the green light and parked the truck in a safe spot off the street. I turned off the engine and lifted the hood and there was a small odder of gas fumes. Seeing that I needed to get to a safe area I slowly drove the truck to a hotel. The next day on Monday at a slow speed no more than 25 miles per hr. I drove the truck to the Ford dealership where I spoke with a Ford service advisor. The Ford service advisor told me that there was a (fuel injector notice) for this year make and model Ford truck. He also said that there could be a possibility that other engine problems could incur as a result of the bad fuel injector. He said that there could be a possibility that my motor could (hydrolock) and cause other problems in the engine and that there was also a possibility that my catalytic converter could be damaged. After receiving this info I left the dealership they shuttled me back to my hotel. Later that day they diagnosed the problem. This is the explanation of what the dealership said was wrong with my truck: (1) bad fuel injector. (2) bent rod. (3) bent valve spring (4) scored valve head (5) possible bad catalytic converter estimated damage $4,300 and if catalytic converter was damaged $5,100.
