1 Automatic Transmission Gear Indicator problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2024

I was driving a couple of days ago and all of a sudden I got this wrench icon on my dashboard and my 2015 Ford f150 went to limp mode from 70 mph to 35 mph for no apparent reason. I've noticed the prndm21 is grayed out. Luckily after about 10 seconds, it went back to normal. Today Feb 23, 2024, I went to pick up my girls from school and this wrench icon shows up again, this time it felt like my truck was not responding to acceleration, it's like it had a mind of its own. I was pressing the brake but it felt like it was not responding so I almost rear-ended another vehicle. Luckily, there was room on the right lane so I swerved immediately not even thinking if there was any car so fortunately, after about a minute, the car went back to normal. I was so scared driving the truck after I picked up my girls to school, I was hoping it wouldn't happen again as there were a lot of kids crossing the school. When I got home, I used my code reader and it came up with p0707 and p0706 (transmission sensor a circuit range performance and transmission range sensor a circuit low) issues. I contacted a mobile mechanic and scheduled for a repair this Sunday. Hope they can get this fix ASAP!.

2 Automatic Transmission Gear Indicator problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2022

While driving at speeds between 10 and 55 mph, I lose power and have to try to drift safely to the side of the road. Multiple dash lights come on (blindspot system fault, cross traffic system fault, see manual) and my drive indicator light strobes across all gears prndlm21 randomly. Some of the time the vehicle acts like it is in neutral. Other times it can inch forward at 5mph. My safety is put at risk because I lose all power control while in traffic! I have had it in the Ford dealer shop for more than 6 weeks. It's been in there twice for the same problem and they cannot find a specific problem. Prior to this happening, there were not any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms. I have had to be towed from the side of the road twice now. Approximately 10 other times, I was able to wait for a period ranging from 5 - 30 minutes and then the vehicle was able to move again.

3 Automatic Transmission Gear Indicator problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2022

2015 Ford f150 - 85,000 miles. While driving at highway speeds vehicle suddenly locked the tires and began to slide out of control. Prndl display went black and wrench warning light illuminated on dash. Car behind me nearly rear-ended due to rapid deceleration without brake lights. I was able to steer to the shoulder to avoid an accident. After shutting off vehicle and restarting, vehicle acted normally. Wrench indicator remained illuminated. Took vehicle to local Ford dealership where multiple pcm codes were found: p06e9, p0707, p1702, p1921. Dealer service was able to reproduce issue; slight movement/wiggle to shifter caused transmission range sensor to "go erratic". Technician recommended replacing transmission molded lead frame. I was given a repair estimate of $1284 and told the part was on back order 6 weeks due to the high number of failures in this part. This part has been recalled on earlier year models of the f150, but the 2015 was not included. I was lucky this incident happened during warm, dry weather and traffic was light. Had the roads been wet or icy (or had the driver behind me not been paying attention) this would have resulted in a violent, high speed accident. I feel lucky to be alive and unhurt.
