While driving at highway speed in 6th gear, the vehicle unexpectedly downshifted into what appeared to be 1st gear without warning. Immediately afterward, the vehicle falsely indicated that it was in reverse while still moving forward, and the backup camera activated during travel. The sudden downshift caused abrupt deceleration and created a significant safety concern due to the risk of loss of vehicle control and the possibility of being rear-ended by surrounding traffic. The issue has occurred multiple times and temporarily reset after shutting the vehicle off and restarting it. During the most recent incident, the vehicle also experienced a delayed restart. The vehicle was inspected by a Ford dealership, which retrieved diagnostic trouble codes p0706, p0707, and p1702 related to the transmission range sensor system. The dealership diagnosed failure of the molded leadframe/internal harness in the transmission main control, causing transmission range sensor faults and erratic shifting behavior. The dealership advised that the repair would cost approximately $4,000 and stated that the repair is not currently covered under the active Ford transmission recall. Prior to the failure, symptoms included intermittent erratic shifting behavior and false gear indication. No collision occurred, but the vehicle behavior created an unsafe driving condition at highway speeds. The failed component should be available for inspection through the servicing Ford dealership.
The contact owns 2017 Ford -f150. The contact stated while driving 55 mph occupied with his wife in the vehicle, the gear shift independently downshifted into second gear causing the vehicle to engage into limp mode and the speed decreased. The service advance track warning light illuminated. An independent mechanic and dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not taken a dealer and an independent mechanic for diganoses. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was relating the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 26v237000(power train) the manufacturer was notified of the failure, and they informed he had to wait for the remedy or pay out of pocket. The failure mileage was 83,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact received a recall notification, NHTSA campaign number. 26v237000 (power train) however the parts were unavailable. The manufacturer was not contacted. The contact had not experienced any failure regarding the unrepaired recall.
For the past several weeks, I have experienced an ongoing issue with my truck’s transmission shifting unpredictably. At random times, it becomes stuck in third gear, and while driving it has downshifted from fifth to third and then to first without warning. Even when stopped at a red light, the vehicle will sometimes remain in third gear. These incidents have created multiple safety concerns while driving and stopping. On 05/11/2026, my truck stopped completely in the middle of the road; fortunately, other drivers were able to stop and I was not hit, but I am concerned it is only a matter of time before a serious accident occurs. I also recently received a recall notice, which I was not expecting, and I had assumed this repair would be an out-of-pocket expense. I have contacted Ford regarding the recall repair, but I was advised they do not anticipate a remedy until July. Waiting several more months to drive a vehicle with ongoing drivetrain and downshifting problems feels unreasonable, and I am also concerned the condition may be causing additional damage to the transmission.
The transmission downshifted at about 65-70 mph and after it stopped it wouldn't start or move. Towed to beach Ford and was quote $1700+ to fix. . Was told pan was pulled and they said "large chunks of metal were found". {not surprising after downshifting at 65+mph. . . } than I was quoted $7500+ for an jasper aftermarket rebuild transition and I would suppose it still has the potential for lockup, especially if Ford cant fix the problem until mid July!!! I think lives are at risk, the downshift is a very violent experience and total loss of control is very possible especially in wet or snowy conditions. . . I'm open to suggestions for additional contact information sen or congressmen . . . Thank you.

The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving on the highway at an undisclosed speed, the contact stated he noticed a maintenance waring light illuminate on the dash and a check engine light. The contact stated he pulled over to the side the road, suddenly the vehicle lost control while going 65 mph and stated that the rear wheels locked up and made the vehicle fully turn almost causing a collison with a semi, the contact was able to recover and pulled the vehicle off to the side. The contact had a code scanner and erased the code he had due to a Ford feature not allowing the vehicle to operate without code. The vehicle was towed to dealer where it was diagnosed to be NHTSA campaign number: 26v237000 (power train) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 134,000.
I haven’t been in an incident yet with this recall. But I contacted Ford today to let them know my truck shifted down to 3rd gear from 5th gear. I informed them that when I entered my VIN on the Ford web site that my truck came up for a recall and that I contacted a local Ford dealer and they said they couldn’t do anything for me because the remedy wouldn’t be out till July 1. My truck is showing a wrench symbol after it shifted down and then it disappears. I told for this is my only transportation vehicle and that I can’t just go buy a new one. They said they aren’t releasing anymore information at the time and they aren’t offering rental vehicles to people with this problem but they aren’t telling people to not drive their vehicles either. I said what happens if I continue to drive my vehicle and it causes me to wreck. They said they couldn’t give me any information.

I am submitting this complaint regarding Ford recall 26s28 involving my 2015 Ford F-150. Ford has acknowledged a defect serious enough to issue a formal safety recall; however, there is currently no repair remedy available and no clear timeline for when repairs will be completed. As a result, affected owners are left operating vehicles with an acknowledged defect or are left without reliable transportation for an indefinite period of time. I contacted Ford motor company and requested interim transportation assistance or a temporary loaner vehicle while awaiting an approved repair solution. Ford denied this request, stating that my vehicle is outside warranty coverage due to age and mileage. Ford also advised that customers should retain receipts in case a reimbursement program becomes available in the future. My concern is that this situation places consumers in an unreasonable position. Although Ford has acknowledged the defect through a federal recall, owners are expected to absorb transportation costs indefinitely while no remedy currently exists. The issue is directly related to the recall condition, not ordinary warranty coverage or routine maintenance. I believe this situation raises concerns regarding the adequacy and timeliness of Ford’s response to recall 26s28 and the hardship imposed on affected consumers during the unresolved recall period. I respectfully request that NHTSA review the handling of this recall, including the lack of available remedies, absence of repair timelines, and lack of interim consumer assistance for affected vehicle owners.
Transmission downshifts from 6th to 3rd gear . It’s has recently done it it about 4 times on the road.
While driving at night a random engine light came on as well as the wrench light came on. Truck downshift and gets stuck at 3rd gear.
I was driving and came to a stop at a light, let off the brake and then my truck came up with a wrench light and wouldn’t read the transmission gear, cab tool pulled these codes u0402, p0706, p0707, p1702, p1921 all pointing at towards the 6r80 transmission for this lead frame/sensor failure. It will work after the truck sits off for a little while but once you start driving for a few miles it goes back into limp mode. I’ve seen you are looking into this as a recall an would love to see others get help with this issue before it’s to late like me now unfortunately.
While accelerating on a green light, vehicle shifted down to a crawl. Truck had an abrupt reduction in speed and was difficult to get vehicle to a safe place to stop. Traffic was heavy and dangerous, trying to get truck off roadway was very difficult. I had to park in a no parking zone to allow traffic to continue. The wrench warning lamp symbol did come on, and warning hill climbing is not possible. The roadway was flat, straight with no incline at all, and clear for easy traffic movement. It was sunny afternoon. I shut truck off and checked underneath vehicle. After 10 minutes, I restarted vehicle and warning lamp was off and truck operated properly.
Transmission downshifts on its own while driving from sixth gear to fifth and won't go back into sixth or lower than 3rd when at a complete stop.
Hard shifting, will enter limp mode in 2nd and 4th gear (usually will down shift to that gear). The check engine light will flash and I have to pull over, stop, shut off my vehicle and then restart it to resolve. I have already spent roughly $4,000 in repairs and still have continued issues. These issues started at approximately 100,000 miles, transmission was rebuilt at 110,000. The current mileage is 139,400.
Transmission will down shift randomly or not even engage when trying to accelerate. It shudders or harshly shifts.
"my 2015 Ford F-150 is experiencing an intermittent, complete loss of the output shaft speed (oss) signal within the 6r80 transmission lead frame. While driving at speed, the speedometer suddenly drops to zero, the 'wrench' light illuminates, and the vehicle performs an unintended, harsh downshift into a lower gear (limp mode/3rd gear). This creates an immediate safety hazard of rear-wheel lockup or a sudden loss of acceleration in traffic. I took my vehicle to a local repair shop where they could not duplicate the fault. I then called my local Ford dealer who informed me unless it would duplicate the fault or show a code they could not repair the vehicle due to it being against warranty policy.
Vehicle unexpectedly down shifting while driving causing vechile to jerk. After parking truck, truck presents a no start condition and unlit gear selector lights. While driving truck will go in and out of limp mode. I have scheduled a appointment to bring the truck in for a diagnostic test 03/31/2026.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford f150. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 26v237000 (power train). The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed on the highway, the vehicle unexpectedly downshifted to a lower gear, and an abnormally loud noise was heard from the vehicle. In addition, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended and was rear-ended from behind. No injuries were reported. No police report was file. The engine revved up; the rear tires made an abnormal grinding noise. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road. The powertrain warning light and lamp wrench warning light were illuminated. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the engine revved up, and the vehicle failed to accelerate past 35 mph. The other driver assisted the contact and helped tow the vehicle back to the residence. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle remained in the residence unrepaired and had not been driven since. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 144,000.
While driving on the highway at approximately 70 mph, the vehicle unexpectedly downshifted without any prior warning or indication of an issue. This sudden loss of speed created a hazardous situation, as the vehicle travelling behind me was forced to swerve quickly to avoid a rear-end collision. Immediately following this, the check engine light illuminated. From that point forward, the transmission would not shift below 3rd gear for the remainder of my commute. This significantly impacted the drivability of the vehicle and made continued driving concerning, particularly in traffic conditions. After arriving at my work, I retrieved the diagnostic trouble code, which was identified as p0721 (output shaft speed sensor). Notably, there were no prior warning signs, drivability issues, or alerts indicating a potentail failure before this incident occurred. Given the sudden and unpredictable nature of this event, especially at highway speeds, I am concerned about the safety implications of this issue. A failure of this kind, without warning, creates a substantial risk not only to the driver but also to surrounding traffic.
Random, sometime months between issues, transmission and vehicle goes into limp mode. Output speed shaft sensor failure codes. This is a problem with the lead frame connector failure in the transmission (6r80 six speed). This is a common problem and should be a recall.
Vehicle downshifting hard intermittent problem during highway and local/city driving.
Driving at highway speeds, transmission shifts into 2nd gear. There is no transmission selection on dash. Shut truck off, now won't start. Truck finally started toke to my local shop and had it repaired.
The contact stated while driving on the highway at approximately 65 mph, the vehicle shifted from 6th to 3rd gear unexpectedly. The vehicle will skip around shifting into to various gears. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.
Auto transmission makes loud noise. Will not shift gear. Engine warning light comes on. After waiting a few minutes, I restart the engine and it may shift gears properly.
While driving at highway speed (60mph), the truck suddenly downshifted to 1st gear causing the rear wheels to lock up until the vehicle slowed to roughly 45mph. At the time of the incident, the truck was not loaded, not towing and weather conditions were cool and dry. Since that incident, the truck hunts for gears, shifts erratically and harshly and will occasionally get stuck in a random gear.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle was chugging while driving. While driving 60 mph the following day, the vehicle made abnormal whining sounds and lost motive power while depressing the accelerator pedal. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The contact resumed driving, but the vehicle failed to exceed 30 mph. The vehicle was taken to auto zone, where it was diagnosed with a transmission sensor failure. The dealer was contacted and informed that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 94,000.
The transmission range sensor has failed on my f150. This made my truck go into limp mode and unable to start. The Ford dealership replaced the lead frame and trs as it was burnt out. The new trs then began to automatically downshift while I was driving on the highway. It went from 6 gear to 4th back to 6th and then briefly to 1st making my truck lose power before going back to 6th gear while I was driving at 70 mph. There were no warning lights, a service light had come on just before the incident. The safety issue is a sharp and sudden downshift while driving at high speeds this can cause severe accidents. I understand that the transmission range sensor for my Ford F-150 is under investigation by the nhsta and in the engineering analysis stage before a recalled is determined. The dealership is looking at the problem as I’ve already spent over $2100 fixing it.
As I was slowing down the truck started to flash the 123456 indicator for the gear. The truck then slipped out of gear and even though I was in drive the truck wouldn’t move. Like I was in neutral. Then with a big bang it started to move again. I stopped and shut the truck off. Started back up and continued to drive to get home. I stopped for a red light and accelerated away from the light and got stuck in the middle of the intersection. I had to shut the truck off in the middle of a state highway then start it again to be able to drive away. It turned out to be a transmission issue from something called the “ lead frame connector. ” the dealer says it happens to all of them. It was very sudden and very dangerous.
Hard clunk from first to second shift. The wrench light comes on, telling you to check the manual. Vehicle stays in 3rd gear. Will not shift into 6th gear. Will not downshift into 2nd or 1st gear. Stays in 3rd gear at a dead stop. The problem was independently reproduced.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted to first gear. The contact stated that occasionally the transmission unexpectedly upshifted to 3rd gear and seized. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but became a recurring failure. The contact stated that the wrench symbol was intermittently illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the molded leadframe on the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 131,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The powertrain symbol was displayed, with a message to check the owner’s manual. In addition, the contact stated that the failure had occurred while driving from a stoplight. The transmission remained in third gear. The vehicle was turned off, and the powertrain was reset. The failure was a persistent failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 109,320.
Very harsh downshifts at random speeds. Transmission slips very hard when cold and overall slips or down/up shifts hard randomly and fairly often.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 70 mph on the highway, the gear transmission independently shifted from sixth gear to seventh gear. The vehicle was turned off and restarted and the vehicle operated as intended. Neither an independent mechanic nor a dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 211,256.
