36 Body problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2018

I bought my 2015 Ford f150 super cab truck used in July 2015. Since December 2018 the driver side door's (front & back) will not open when ice or water is present below freezing temperatures. If and when I can get them open they will not latch back. So far this winter this has happened several times. The first time was in December 2018 while visiting at a hospital in muncie, indiana. After visiting for several hours the temperature had dropped. I unlocked the doors with the remote and the door would not open. Then after I pulled hard several times it finally opened but when I closed the door t would not latch. After many unsuccessful tries at getting the doors to latch I had to wrap my belt through the tops of the opened windows to hold the doors closed. The door open alarm then continued to sound for the two and one half drive home. It had rained earlier in the day but then with temperature at about 28 deg. , they froze up. The next three times the same thing happened but over night, finding the same problem in the morning. I couldn't use the truck safely so it sat in the driveway until it thawed. The last (fifth) time I ran the engine and heater for about a half hour until I could get it to latch. Here it is against the law to let a vehicle run while unattended. I did get an official looking questionnaire in the mail and I sent it to advantage Ford in connersville, indiana (I think). I should have kept a copy for myself. This is not only an inconvenience but very unsafe.

Failure Date: 12/12/2018

My rear passenger side door wouldn't open a couple weeks ago. It was freezing temps that day, and figured it was related to NHTSA recall # 17v652. I was unable to open the door, even though it was unlocked. It was stuck at the bottom hinge. So I took it to the mclarty food dealership in north little rock, ar. They had my truck there all day. Since they couldn't open the door, they said it wasn't related to the recall. They also tried to say it was a result of a collision. This is the first time this has happened. I informed them that my truck was in a collision over a year and half ago, but the truck was completed fixed at their mclarty collision center with new Ford oem parts. I even stated that the recall description even stated that the door could become unable to open because of a bent door latch cable. They still refused to fix it unless I paid them $130 diagnostic fee. Because I still had a warranty on the collision repair work, I took it back to collision company. They were able to get the door off in less than 30 minutes. As predicted, a door latch cable was my issue. The collision people even agreed it was related to the recall, and sent me a picture of the bent cable.

Campaign 17v652000. Frozen doors/locks. Vehicle has had both the recall 17v652000 and service action 18n03 performed, issue still exists. Doors will not close and latch, doors will not open, lock mechanisms will not function when below freezing temperatures are present, especially after precipitation. Vehicle was stationary when issue occurred, however door could have easily opened if I had not realized it wasn't latched when it appeared to be. Ford does not appear to have a solution to this issue, or isn't serious about providing permanent remedy. Issue has happened several times when weather conditions apply.

Failure Date: 12/06/2018

Doors of the vehicle freeze up and don't open or after opening, they dont shut securely. I recently had to drive to my destination while holding the drivers door in a closed position while driving. Door would not latch until later in the day. Temperatures were not below freezing outside. This is am extreme safety issue I have been dealing with for three years on all my doors, with no proper fix from the Ford motor company.

40 Body problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2018

The platinum trim version includes retractable running boards. These fail to deploy on occasion and have resulted in both my wife and I stumbling when getting out and expecting the running board to be deployed. It will also deploy and then immediately retract without warning. In the best, one side or the other would deploy and then immediately retract. Dealer has been unable to provide a permanent fix. Last night my wife opened the passenger door, the running board deployed, and as I wife attempted to step on it, it retracted which could have pinned her leg. Earlier that evening she went to exit the vehicle and stumbled after expecting the running board to be deployed. It had deployed but immediately retracted. This has also happened to me on the drivers side.

Failure Date: 12/04/2018

Door latch not working in freezing conditions. The vehicle has only 12,000 miles and has been into the dealer three times (two under recall) for this problem. It still has the same problem. The door will not latch either while stationary or in motion causing it to open while driving ( I've had to use a bungee cord on occasion) and it also makes it impossible to lock the vehicle when this happens. Ford's "fixes" are not satisfactory and this is a safety and security issue.

Repeat issue- this vehicle has been serviced by Ford for same latch freezing problem twice through recall and warranty fixes with no resolution. Vehicle was in park and the driver's side door was opened from the outside. The door latch became stuck and the door would not close. The outdoor temp was 29 degrees, and the door lock was frozen. After heating the truck for 20 minutes, latch unfroze and began working. Video is available upon request.

46 Body problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2018

While driving my 2015 Ford F-150 ecoboost at 45 mph on a city street I had a low break fluid warning light come on. I stopped at a stop light and all seemed fine. I proceeded 2 blocks to find somewhere safe to check the brake fluid level. When I tried to stop at the next stop light I had no brakes at all!!! I went through the red light intersection with my foot to the floor on the brakes. With luck, I did not hit another vehicle. I coasted slow enough to use my parking brake (e-brake) to make a full stop. I open the hood and noticed that the brake fluid reservoir was almost completely empty. After carefully examining all of the brake lines ,fittings, calipers, master cylinder and the engine compartment no brake fluid was found leaking anywhere. I had the 2015 Ford F-150 ecoboost towed to a dealership. Also about a week ago during a long road trip I noticed a lot of wind noise coming from the drivers door. I was on an interstate going about 75 mph. I got off of the interstate and re-closed my door thinking I did not shut it hard enough. About 5 miles down the interstate driving about 75 mph I went over an approach (or a bump) to a bridge and the door dropped out of it's closed position and I could stick 4 fingers out between the door and door frame. I pull over at a safe area to exam the door and frame. I noticed that the door bolts (top and bottom) that hold the door hinge to the door had come loose and backed out about 4 turns. I tightened them and finished my trip. I notified the dealership so they can see why that had happened.

The dealer buss Ford Lincoln 111 north illinois route 31, mchenry, IL 60050 was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was also contacted and stated that there was not a recall for that specific failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 51,000. Am.

Failure Date: 03/28/2018

I have been dealing with Ford after they fixed my perfectly working doors after a recall. They gave me back my vehicle and the drivers door didn't work. They never mentioned that part until I got down the road . . . When I called they said they had the wrong part and tried to fix with a zip tie. . . Really? let's fast forward from end of March. . . Door still doesn't work. I have to roll down window to get out. Part is on back order. And the best part- the problem has been registered as fixed in the recall database for Ford so I can't take it to another dealer without paying. So I am driving an unsafe vehicle now that was safe go figure.

Ford f150 lariat 2015 crew cab since it was new (Feb 2015) has weekly, had the passenger rear door lock stick making it impossible to open the door either from the inside or the outside. I took the car to the dealer in the early days of ownership for warrantee repair but they never could duplicate the problem. The vehicle was recently in for a recall notification for a cable issue with the door opening system which could fail, allowing the door to either not open or open unexpectedly. The replacement of the cable did not fix this problem and it continues until today. On March 27th I took the door apart to see if I could locate the problem. I was concerned and anxious, that if the car were to be involved in an accident, access through the passenger rear door could be blocked, making my grandson susceptible to possible danger if he was in his car seat. He lives with me and I take him to school everyday. Today the door jammed at his school as it does on 25% of the days I take him to school which causes problems in the school unloading zone. When I got home I once again tried to replicate the problem. I found the problem and will now describe it. The door lock, jams in a locked position if the door is locked and the rear passenger window is lowered more than 1". From the 1" open to full open position, the door lock will not disengage or permit the door to be opened by either the interior or exterior door handles. This occur no matter what the operating state the vehicle is in. The electric locking system will not unlock the door and manually pulling on the release button has only resulted in tearing the button from the metal rod to which it is attached (which happened today). So, any time the window is cracked open from 1" to full open, the locking system freezes in the locked position making the door a hazard and useless as an entry or exit means.

Vista roof hangs up when trying to open and close. Diagnosis was to replace both left and right sliding glass brackets and reinitialize sunroof motors and retest sliding glass operation. The vehicle was stationary when the binding occurred. I had the same problem occur at 52,622 miles on 10/31/2019. My roof is bound up just like the original occurrence. The vehicle was sitting stationary in my garage at the time.

Moonroof will not open. Fabric moonroof cover will not open or close; it is open exposing the front half of the moonroof, but leaving the back covered. When driving, the sound of passing wind is loud. Before this happened, I had only opened the moon roof one or two times.

Recall remedy did not resolve the issue. The driver door doesn't latch after opening when ambient temperature is below freezing. This has happened twice, the first time less than 10 days after the recall remedy was performed on the vehicle. My truck has push-button start with keyless entry. The door unlocks when my hand is detected on the inside of the door handle and the key fob is in my possession. The first incidence: I observed the lock button popped up as I grabbed the door handle, upon pulling the handle, the door opens. I got into the truck, started it, then got out, before I attempted to close the door. I closed the door, but instead of latching, I noticed it bounced open and rested a couple of inches from its closed position. A second, third, and fourth attempt to push the door closed ended with the same result. Actuating the inside handle did not change the symptom. Actuating the power door lock, which cycled back to unlock, due to the engine running, did not change the symptom. I pressed the power lock button and quickly pulled the door handle before the unlock cycle executed, the lock button stayed down (locked), then I closed the door, the door latched. I unlocked the door and opened it, then closed it, it latched and operated normally. The second incident: the door bounced open, just like the first incident. The door latch continued to misbehave until I pressed the manual lock button then closed the door. The door latched. I pressed the unlock button on the key fob. I observed the door lock button pop up only slightly to return to the locked position. The other doors unlocked. A few more attempts with the key fob did not unlock the door. I entered the passenger side and climbed the center console to get in the drivers seat. I operated the door handle, which also unlocks a locked door, the door opened, then continued to operate normally.

56 Body problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2018

All door latches become inoperable, will not open or close (latch), during wet and or cold weather. Received TSB notice from Ford Nov. 2017, called dealer, told parts not in, we'll call. As of 2/8/2018, still no parts in per dealer. This is becoming a serious issue when doors won't open or securely close. The problem began in 2017, before the TSB was issued and has happened numerous times since.

All, I have a recall on door latches, but a cause maybe water getting in the doors, then freezing. You try to open and bending on rods occur. I have approx 2 gallons of water in door, and Ford says clean out drain. . . When is a door supposed to get soaked and hold water inside? this can cause lots of problems in future. Look at you tube videos 1000 having the problem. So bad it's going under the floor. In the world of flooding a vehicle and totaling does this become the issue? im afraid to look under my floor, because I will become very unprofessional. I'm a life long Ford owner and looking for guidance please. . I called corperate Ford from 1pm to 215 pm on 1/12/18 and get a recording they can't take call go to Ford owner site and hang up. It's the 800 number everyone calls. Why im here. . Water gets in door when raining.

Doors will not latch when it gets cold out. 10 degrees or lower.

59 Body problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2018

Passenger side door does not operate when temperatures are below freezing. Door will open while driving if the temp thaws the door. Brought to the dealer over 3 times. Apparently there is a recall on this issue but my particular VIN is not included in the recall. It probably should be.

In cold weather 1 or more of the doors do not lock or unlock electrically. Been a problem for 2 years now. Dealer has supposedly repaired but the problem persists.

61 Body problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2017

Door latches are freezing up, even after the recall "fix" of a water diversion shield. I went back to the dealer to try to have it properly fixed and they told me there is nothing they can do as, the parts we already installed. It has been freezing up every time it's below 32 and I am unable to get into the back seat without crawling through the front and manually unlocking from within. This is a huge safety factor if there were to be an accident and one of my kids was trapped in the back, among other issues of inconvenience.

62 Body problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2017

Doors will not latch closed when temperatures drop below freezing. I had my vehicle brought into the dealer earlier this year to replace the latches and install the door gutter. Today was the first frost since that work was completed and the doors would not close once again. Fords fix to this issue does not work. I have been asked to bring my vehicle in again so they can replace the latches again. I attempted to call Ford to let them know that their fix is not a permanent fix. This morning my door flung open getting on the highway. While I did not fall out I suspect it is only a matter of time and Ford needs to find a real fix to this problem rather than waste time on a solution that has proven itself not to fix the issue.

63 Body problem

Failure Date: 12/07/2017

I recently received a recall 17v-652 from Ford for an issue with door latches. In the recall notice they state if you have a problem with the door to call the dealer to have it fixed immediately. My door has swung open twice while driving both times with my sons in the front seat. Most recently this morning. I called the dealer north country Ford in coon rapids mn and they said there is nothing they can do because they don't have the part to fix it. I called the manufacturer and they said to call the dealer. Truck is not useable in the winter as is. Too dangerous to drive.

64 Body problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2017

When outside temperature falls below freezing temperatures the door locks will not unlock electrically or manually. The back doors have been opened manually after climbing over the console into the back seat and using inside door handle but then have not latched fully when closing allowing door to come open upon driving. I climbed over the console to open the back door this morning and it wouldn't open manually trapping me in the back seat at below freezing temperature because I could not climb back over the front seats. This issue was first filed with NHTSA 12/30/2016. Dealer said the problem was fixed in March 2017 but is now happening again. I have had to tie a rope from handle to handle in the back seat to keep the doors closed. Can not safely put children in the back seat for fear of them falling out. This truck should be red flagged until safe to operate. Ford motor company has failed to fix this TSB 15-0052 and TSB 16-0155 properly and safely. The vehicle is usually parked in driveway when the door locks are frozen but has one time been in motion with the back doors not latched fully causing them to come open driving around corners before I tied the doors together.

65 Body problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2017

Driver side door fails to remain latched after closure. After closing the door (and the vehicle registering the door as closed), I began driving and leaned against the door. A short distance later, the door unlatched itself and opened. I had to pull over and open/shut the door several times (and lock/unlock the locks) to get it to latch properly. Ford has issued their own notice offering a voluntary door latch inspection and replacement; however due to the potential danger the self-opening door placed me in- this should be a mandatory recall for all Fords with this type of latching mechanism on their doors. I was on a road with a 30 mph speed limit when this incident occurred and was bucked-up (luckily).

Complaint - manufacturer handing of NHTSA recall 17v652 I have contacted Ford multiple times regarding this recall and each time they have said I would be contacted when the parts are ready. It has been nearly a year since the original recall (Nov 2017). I encourage NHTSA to assess Ford's handling of this safety recall to determine if they are unnecessarily delaying required safety repairs.
