2 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2019

I wanted to make you aware of this situation that I've encountered. On the 3rd of December, I was going to my Ford f150 XLT to go to work. My car was sitting in the back yard and I started it with the remote start to warm it up. I opened the door and glanced at the back window. I then saw that the entire window was shattered. I looked around for anything suspicious and found nothing. I checked to see if something fell on or hit my back window and still didn't see anything strange. I called my insurance provider and she thought that it had something to do with the weather, which was about 40 degrees. But when I checked the web, I found that there were more cases like mine. People who were just using the rear defroster and their back windows would crack and shatter. The reason that I'm sending the email is to find out if there is an open recall for these windows. I, along with other f150 owners, had no idea that the window would break from using the rear defroster or just regular operation of the car. There have been lots of cases regarding this issue and I want to help bring attention to it before there is a problem. Please email me back as soon as possible.

3 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2019

The moonroof in our f150 won't open or completely close. The vent option in the moonroof opens a fraction of the amount it has opened previously. Based on my research it's a design issue with the track. Since the moonroof won't close completely there is a possibility of water leaking into the cab. The moonroof is rarely used. We attempted to open it and do some basic troubleshooting (to at least get it to close completely) while sitting idle in the driveway. When I contacted my Ford service department there were no appointments available for the next week.

4 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2019

The first time I went to use my sunroof the track broke now my window is stuck up and sunroof does not work.

5 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2018

I was traveling on I-96 highway in michigan, and just got on the highway. I was cruising along at about 70 mph (temp outside 75). After driving for about 2 minutes, I heard a loud pop sound that sounded like a gunshot explosion. I looked back at the rear glass, and it had shattered. The tempered glass was still intact however it was making a loud crackling sound. I pulled off the highway immediately and parked in a parking lot. I took pictures of the glass and noticed it was billowing outward from the truck, and the outer edges were jagged and broken. There was no sign of impact by a rock or any other object that could have hit the glass. I decided it was best to go to the Ford dealership right down the road to have the incident documented. Upon closing my door to get back into the truck, 2/3 of the shattered glass fell and spread out all over the back tonneau cover of the truck. Clearly indicating the pressure of the break went "outward" from the truck cabin. The Ford dealer body shop manager took pictures and told me he would file a claim on my behalf with Ford. I expressed my concern with learning that Ford has had a problem for years with this happening to their trucks and suvs, and I wanted this information passed on to the corporate level. I was able to bring the truck safely to an auto repair shop locally, and they told me they have replaced many rear glass sections in Ford trucks that broke without an object impacting it. I think there is a substantial case here to be built against Ford. Yes, the glass was not dangerous, and thank goodness my son was not in the truck at the time. However if this really is a consistent problem with Ford, it's time for a recall or a lifetime warranty by the company.

6 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2018

Sunroof tracks are plastic and crumble and break causing the sunroof to be stuck open or inoperable. Appears to be a common problem with all f150's based on internet research.

7 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2018

When opening the sunroof the plastic track will break causing the sunroof mechanism to become jammed leaving the sunroof partially open and unable to close. This is the second time this track has broken.

8 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2018

On January 22 2018 at approximately 11:00 p. M. , I started my truck with the remote start, which activates the rear window defroster, as needed. On my 20 mile ride home from work, mostly freeway driving, I heard crackling noises, and I was watching in the rear view mirror, my entire rear window shattering, except for the center power sliding piece. When I got home, pieces of glass fell inside the cab and bed when I closed the door. Ford is aware of this issue, but they refuse to repair it. In the meantime, I am forced to pay $500 deductible for my insurance to repair it, even though I had purchased the extended warranty when I bought it brand new. It has approximately 15,000 miles on it now. Researching this problem, I believe it is a defect in the glass, causing it to shatter when the defroster warms up the glass.
