4 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2021

My truck started making a whistle and ticking sound different than the standard turbo whistle. I've also noticed a burning smell recently when accelerating. I took the vehicle in to the dealership, and they pointed out that the exhaust manifold is warped. Looking online, this is a standard issue with Ford's ecoboost engine -- however this is not covered by the extended warranty. This could cause the vehicle to fail emissions testing.

5 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2021

Exhaust manifold studs broke causing the manifold to warp turning into an exhaust leak. This is a common issue with the 3. 5 eco boost due to the lack of manifold studs towards the rear of the vehicle. This is a design flaw that is costing the average person approximately $1400. There are thousands of post and videos with this issue.

6 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2021

Exhaust manifold leak at 45000 miles.

7 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2021

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, he started to smell exhaust gases inside the cabin of the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to drive to his destination. The contact stated while inspecting the vehicle, he noticed both manifold were fractured and leaking. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that both manifolds needed to be replaced. The contact called mike white Ford of coeur d'alene (315 w clayton Ave, coeur d'alene, id 83815, (208) 664-9211) and informed the dealer of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving from a complete stop, the vehicle made an abnormally loud sound. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the exhaust manifold was leaking and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred a year later. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where the same assessment was made, and the exhaust manifold was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the exhaust manifold needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

9 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2020

Exhaust manifold stud bolt broken on rear of drivers side manifold. Makes a loud chirping noise when accelerating. Many other owners complaining about same issue on this eco boost 3. 5l engine.

10 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2020

My 2016 Ford f150 recently started whistling at the 2500rpm point from the front end of the my truck. I took it to the dealership expecting a vacuum hose issue and was told both exhaust manifolds had warped and broke off some of the mounting bolts. I was a bit shocked since the vehicle has 102,000 miles on it and it's not been abused in anyway. Unfortunately, the factory warranty runs out at 100,000 miles and on the hook for the cost of this $1600+ (so far) repair. After doing a little research on the internet it did not take me long to discover this is a very well known problem with the 3. 5l ecoboost engine. There were a multitude of websites and youtube videos addressing this known problem with folks quite upset that an official recall has not been issued yet with a proper fix/replacement and reimburse the owners who have already paid for the fix. Seems like it's not a matter of if it's going to happen to your truck. . . But when. Very disappointing, especially when you hear how many known issues have already been reported. Exhaust fumes leaking from the engine and possibly into the cab. . . Should take a high priority to resolve. Let's go Ford. . . Make it right! thank you.

11 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2020

My 2016 Ford F-150, at around 68,000 miles, began to experienced power loss and a loud whistle or whining sound during acceleration, coming from the front left and right side of the engine. During acceleration, a high-pitched whine occurs and increases when revving the engine. Truck power loss was noticeable and boost declined, dropping to less than 25%. Exhaust fumes were noticeable from inside the cab of the truck. Depaul Ford of albany, NY misdiagnosed it as a bad turbo with a stuck open wastegate and so we replaced the passenger side turbo, which did not fix the problem. The truck was brought to a highly recommended mechanic technician, matt, at miller's corners garage in albany, NY. He discovered the bolts and studs that hold the manifolds in place were severely rusted and the manifold was warped with significant air leak and blow by. There was a large black sooty streak on the manifold side where the turbo hooks up, where the blow-by was occurring. At a cost of $1100 the passenger side manifold, hardware and related components were replaced. The driver side manifold is not available from Ford until late December and still requires replacement. The vehicle has been well taken care of and is driven in upstate new york. It is rarely used for towing. It's absurd to think that a truck with such low mileage would have such a severe and expensive issue, significantly decreasing engine power, reducing the life of the engine and bringing fumes into the cab. This should be a recall issue.

12 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2020

Exhaust manifold on driver side warped and leaks causing a screeching sound on acceleration and slight tick on start up and idle.

13 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2020

Exhaust manifold warped leaking. Gradually becoming worse. First noticed noise in 2020.

14 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Exhaust manifold leak.

15 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. While driving, the check engine indicator suddenly illuminated and remained lit after the vehicle was restarted. The contact connected a diagnostic tool to the vehicle and the failure code indicated that the intake manifold did not open bank number two. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000. The VIN was unknown.

16 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2018

The vehicle hesitates, idles roughly when cold and makes a knocking type noise at idle when hot. The coolant level has gone down substantially despite having it serviced recently. We have experienced large amounts of water dripping from the tail pipe along with the occasional puff of thick smoke. The vehicle misfires and it has been verified by a scan tool (my own and Fords). Ford's technicians have verified the concern but have told us that without a hard fault, they are not able to look into the problem further. This issue has been brought to their attention several times with no resolution. While it may be related or unrelated, the transmission also jerks when slowing down and has a tendency to lurch forward when going from 3-2-1 gears. This has also been verified by Ford and they have made two attempts using TSB 16-0015 to resolve without any improvement.
