36 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2009 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/02/2011

While pulling away from a drive through window, I took my foot off the accelerator to put on the brake as I neared the stop sign at the intersection to enter main road. As this happened the truck acceleratored suddenly and darted the truck and passengers into 2 lanes of traffic where they were hit by a van which in turn swung them into the opposite 2 lanes of traffic (so truck went through 4 lanes of traffic). Truck's airbags deployed on driver and passenger side (with driver seat bags too) and no injuries occured. Truck is being fixed and will be taken to local Ford dealership afterward for evualation.

41 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2013 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/23/2010

When first accelerating early in the morning the truck accelerates suddenly when 1st taking off. This really became a problem when someone stepped in front of me, the truck took off and then I had to stop suddenly. I have reported to Ford and taken it in twice, but they insist no one has had this problem. The motor's rpm fluctuates about 200-300, then settles down. The visibility has been a problem since day one. Ford replaced the wiper blades, but the problem is still there. I have back to the dealer 3 times and all they say is "we can duplicate the problem".

45 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2008 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/29/2009

Owner of 2008 Ford F-150 experienced spontaneous acceleration of vehicle at approximately 4800 miles and then repeated 3 times in one day at approximately 5700 miles. It happened twice while in drive and twice while in reverse. Even while holding the brake pedal to the floor, the truck continued to accelerate to full throttle each time. With great difficulty, my husband forced the truck into neutral and then park, at which time the engine returned to a normal rpm. He turned the engine off and then back on. We took the truck to the Ford dealership. Our truck was left at the dealer overnight for a check over. The service agent stated that the computer did not record any issues and they were unable to duplicate our concern. The service agent stated that there was "nothing" on Ford's site about our problems with the F-150's suddenly accelerating and they could not fix what wasn't "broken. " if this is not a safety issue, nothing is! especially since so many trucks are used for hauling heavy loads. This is not an issue of where the gas and brake pedals are located. After this happens once, you know where the brake pedal is!!! it is obvious that Ford is not going to own up to this "concern" until enough injuries or deaths are reported.

52 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2001 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/23/2006

I am requesting a recall for the Ford speed control systems. They are causing uncontrolled accelerations which do not respond to the breaks. I was stopped in a drive through window with my foot on the break. The vehicle was at a full stop. Suddenly while my foot was on the break the engine accelerated out of control. Because my foot was on the break the vehicle was not able to move forward. This was not a mistake of putting my foot on the accelerator because I was preventing the vehicle from moving forward by having my foot on the break. Quickly I placed the vehicle in park preventing it from driving off the end of the drive through. Afterwards I proceeded to conduct research and found that many other people are reporting the same problem. The Ford speed control systems are causing uncontrolled accelerations which lead to severe accidents and deaths.

57 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2004 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/07/2004

While parking a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck I experienced an unintended acceleration incident. This occurred as I was engaging the brakes of the vehicle. As I applied pressure to the brake pedal, the engine revved up and the vehicle lurched forward. To stop the vehicle from accelerating I took my foot off the brake and let the vehicle stop on its own. I later told the owner (my uncle) about the event, and he immediately told me that he had a similar occurrence while backing up the vehicle. He told me what was happening was my foot was touching both the brake and accelerator pedals at the same time. I examined the distance between the brake and accelerator pedals and sure enough my foot would bridge the gap between the two, engaging both at the same time. The following day I had the same situation occur again, but this time I was able to get the vehicle to stop by moving my foot leftward on the brake pedal. A personal note about my experience with Ford full size pickups, I have been driving various models since the mid 1970's and have never had an unintentional acceleration occur. This particular model comes equipped with adjustable pedals that may play apart in the problem. But I think the size of the accelerator pedal may be the major contributing factor in causing this problem. I feel this is an ergonomics problem that will need to be addressed before someone gets killed or maimed. I have know doubt people would have been seriously harmed had they been within four feet of the front of the vehicle when this unintentional acceleration occurred.
