While driving at about 50 mph, the truck will go from 6th to 1st, and lock up the rear end briefly. I'm the mechanic filing this for my customer, seems to me, its the lead frame failing in the trans, and they have done nothing about it, customer says Ford worked on this transmission, the only updated part I found was 1 extra magnet. Old part number for the lead frame, and a known failing lead frame #, I'm pretty sure you guys have a open case for these trucks.

My 2018 Ford F-150 experiences harsh, erratic, and unpredictable transmission shifting. The truck frequently hesitates during acceleration, followed by sudden and violent gear engagement. It also makes abrupt downshifts while driving, causing unexpected deceleration that can be dangerous in traffic. The truck will shift from 8th, 9th, or 10th gear down to 1st at highway speeds. This causes abrupt deceleration and significant loss of speed on the highway. On multiple occasions, the transmission has delayed engagement when shifting from a stop, creating hesitation when entering intersections or merging, followed by a sudden surge of power. This creates an unsafe driving condition and increases the risk of rear-end collision or loss of control. The shifting behavior is inconsistent and unpredictable, occurring during both in traffic and highway driving. The problem is worsening over time. Given the frequency and severity of these events, I believe this transmission behavior represents a significant safety defect that should be investigated for potential recall or corrective action.

While driving the truck it suddenly shifts down gears, and shoots up rpms, causing the truck to slow down drastically and causing a loss of control in the truck. Potentially causing a severe accident. This issue could seriously cause harm to myself and to others especially going at highway speeds. When turned off the truck won’t start up again without clearing codes.

Around curves truck will down shift too many gears. The problem was when it did it recently with the icey roads the tires locked up for a second and I got sideways. I got it straight but if a car was coming I would crashed. My speed was around 50 but I let off the gas to slow down for the curver never applied brakes yet. It does it usually when slowing down its done it since ive owned it and its never bothered me too much until this recent instance. No warning lights, only recall is back up camera I dont have issues with. Ive complained to many Ford dealers and my year dose not qualify, if I want to get it fixed I need to buy new transmission.

While driving at any speed, 55 , 65 my truck downshift to 1st gear. It locks up the back tires and the truck starts squealing. And sometimes while driving it just jumps into limp mode into 3rd or 5th gear and it wont come out of 3rd or 5th gear. I do understand there is a recall for this but Ford is telling me my truck is not included in the recall.

Nhtsa investigation pe24010 (or related transmission downshift probes. . Safety risk: the vehicle unexpectedly downshifts and locks rear wheels, creating an immediate life-threatening risk on the highway. Dealer response: dealer claimed their "computer doesn't pick up anything," as this helps investigators understand that the diagnostic tools are failing to detect the fault. VIN number: [xxx] dealer record: that grieco Ford performed the recall update and that the issue persists. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Truck would randomly go into limp mode while driving. Highways, country roads, middle of town, making it difficult to pull off the road with no ability to accelerate to safely merge off the roadway. The cause was from the lead frame in the transmission which was under an “expired” recall 19n01. Dealership charged me $1,500 to fix this. How is this not a safety issue that should have been taken care of by the dealership at no charge. I just bought the truck mid December 2025 and am not happy to have to shell out $1,500 to fix a known issue like this.
While driving my 2013 f150 eco boost is started shifting erratically. While at 60 mph the truck would down shift on it's own to 1st gear and my truck would skid. Luckily I did not crash but it's dangerous and it's my only transportation. I took it to Ford and they said I needed a $8k transmission replacement. I ended up taking to a transmission shop for a rebuild but shortly after if did it again. The transmission shop replaced the valve but said Ford needed to reflash the tcm. When I asked for them to follow recall 19s07 they said I would need to bring it in and pay them another $400 for a diagnostic and they couldn't just reflash it. Now I'm in a position where I have to drive what feels like a timebomb and I have no way out of it.
While driving at normal speeds, the transmission hesitates and pops when shifting into 4th gear. The vehicle slows down unexpectedly before shifting and will suddenly downshift without warning. This causes abrupt deceleration and creates a safety concern, especially at highway speeds. The issue occurs intermittently and without driver input. Even when I’m in normal gears it will downshift and cause me to slow and lose control even when I am not breaking. It occurs at just 35 mph- highway speeds.

This report is being made within 1 1/2 hours after the incident. It has not been inspected by a dealer, service center, nor any other agency. I was stopped at a local fast food restaurant waiting to pay for my purchase. The 2021 Ford F-150 was in drive with my foot on the brake. No warning lights or other indication were present. Without warning, the engine revved to a high rpm and the truck shot forward about 15-20 feet before I could react by putting my full weight on the brake pedal. The engine quickly slowed. I then put the vehicle in reverse and backed up to the window and placed the transmission in park. The truck is equipped with adaptive cruise control but it was not active at the time of the incident. Had there been another vehicle in front of me, I would have rear-ended them. I work from home and use the truck a couple of times per week and it is available for inspection most days.

I was driving home and the truck started to shift very harshly and had died at a stoplight , I put it into park and restarted it and the engine light came on tried to put it into drive and it had jumped forward very rough as soon as I did, started driving again and then the truck shifted into 5th gear and would not shift out of 5th gear at all was very slowly leaving from stop signs and the high speed fans had turned on and ran the entire rest of the time. Causing very irratic shifting where at times it would down shift and skid the tires.
Turn signals, speed control radio functions, windsheild wipers stopped working! it effects people in front ,back or side knowing what I am doing so they can react like turning in any direction , my vision is blocked during rain or snow and will cause an accident harming me or others . ' no warning lamps came on when problem happened ! ' problem has been confirmed by a qualified mechanic !.
When driving home from work at night on the highway in a 55mph zone my truck lost all power and the ability to accelerate. While on the highway began to hit the gas a bit more and saw the gears go from gear 10 all the way down to 1st gear at 55mph. Not sure what was happening and the truck began to “gear hunt” (attempting to find a gear that would give power). The truck gave me a check engine light and a alert of reduced power. I started to smell a burning smell in the vehicle and someone behind me was flashing me with their high beams to attempt to alert me something was wrong. I rolled the window down and looked in my mirror and saw white bellowing smoke being produced from behind the vehicle causing other drivers to either change lanes or slow down so they can see. I used what speed I had left from going down a on ramp to pull into a parking spot behind a building on the main road and had to call for a tow truck very late at night after my shift. I had the vehicle towed to that into the service department of a certified Ford dealership. After a few days of waiting for a response on the diagnosis of the vehicle, they stated that the transmission had blown and needed a replacement.
I was attempting to leave a parking spot when while maneuvering the vehicle it suddenly and unexpectedly accelerated to a high speed into a tree. There is a police report and security video as the incident took place in a hospital parking lot. The truck is totaled and settled but insurance company not interested in liability. My wife and I were injured. I have no idea or explanation for the sudden acceleration. Nobody is investigating if there was a vehicle malfunction or not. I just want it documented somewhere in case it is happening a lot. The crash was violent and occurred from a near complete stop on a clear day with no distractions.

The transmmission down shift when going 60 mph.
I was driving about 55 mph when suddenly my 2013 truck down shifted to either first or third gear and I barely was able to control it to get off the road. The truck just bowed up and the vehicle behind me almost hit me. The speedometer stopped working and a wrench icon appeared. I tried to take off and the truck was stuck in third gear. Ford dealership said they would fix it if it was the oss sensor. I paid to have it towed and they charged me over 2,000. There was a safety recall 24s37 on the 2014 with the 6r80 transmission the same kind my truck has. My 2013 did exactly the same thing as the 2014 and I believe it should have a safety recall. There was a extended warranty or something either 10 years or 150,000. My truck has 130,000. I talked to Ford customer satisfaction but they have done nothing. I told them I was going to report it.
I was trying to park the vehicle and it unexpectedly started to accelerate. I had to slam on the brakes. This is not the first time this has occurred. It’s happened many times. I took it to the Ford dealership and they said they cannot find any problems so then I did some research on the internet and found there’s other people saying the same thing so there’s clearly a problem with this vehicle. Unexpected acceleration.

While driving, my 2017 Ford f?150 experienced a sudden loss of the output shaft speed (oss) sensor signal, causing the transmission to stay stuck in a higher gear and triggering the wrench light. The truck lost power and would not shift properly. A diagnostic scan showed two transmission codes: one for the oss sensor and a second code indicating an intermittent electrical signal drop. I contacted a Ford dealer before the repair, described the symptoms, and asked for an estimate. The service advisor did not disclose any known issues and never called me back after saying he would check parts availability. These symptoms match the known failure pattern of the molded lead frame in the 6r80 transmission. My truck exhibited intermittent behavior, harsh shifting, and unsafe drivability. I had to pay $1,250 out of pocket to replace the lead frame to restore normal operation. I later learned that NHTSA has opened an engineering analysis into 2015–2017 f?150 trucks for this exact issue (oss signal loss due to internal electrical degradation of the lead frame). My vehicle’s symptoms, diagnostic codes, and required repair are consistent with the defect under investigation. This failure creates a safety hazard because the truck can suddenly lose the ability to accelerate or shift correctly, especially in traffic or at highway speeds. I am requesting that NHTSA include my vehicle in the investigation and that Ford be required to address this defect.

2019 F-150 2. 7l ecoboost, 10-speed. Intermittent unintended acceleration: while coasting or braking at low speed (10–25 mph) the engine suddenly revs to 3–4k rpm with a strong lurch forward against the brakes. Requires hard braking and shifting to neutral to stop. Happens year-round, warm or cold, no warning lights. This is a known issue covered by TSB 19-2135 and ssm 49240 this problem started in 2020 at about 10k mileage. Has occurred about 10 times since with about 82k mileage now. The service dealer at acton Ford tried to reproduce the problem a couple years ago by driving it, but acceleration problem didn’t happen. The problem occurred today, Dec 6, 2025 while braking for a stop light when I had to stomp on the brakes and shifted into park. This could be dangerous if I pulled through the red light into cross-traffic.
Ford has refused, on multiple occasions and at multiple dealerships, to address the NHTSA recall number 23v896 (mfg. Recall number 23s65) issue with the wheel end hub bolt in the rear axle. Well, this weekend, the bolt on the passenger side rear axle broke off, rendering the vehicle undriveable. I brought it in to the lithia Ford dealership (who's online information said they were open) to get it addressed. They were closed, no one was there, and they won't even give me a loaner vehicle while the F-150 is inoperable. This recall has been out for two years now and they still won't deal with it. Absolute neglect of their obligations and an unsafe practice!.
Vehicle is showing symptoms similar to common reported problems from people who owned Ford F-150 with eco-boost. Symptoms such engine had difficulty starting transmission shifting rattling noises coming out from the engine compartment oil leaks coming out the tail pipe gauge is showing engine is over heating turbo is having a hard time accelerating.

My truck started experiencing the notorious Ford "limp mode" needs lead frame replaced. Ford has a customer satisfaction program directly related to this issue but though its 20k under their 150k limit it is over 10 yrs old so they are not honoring anything or doing anything about covering and cost associated. Pretty crappy of Ford.
The vehicle experienced repeated and unpredictable loss of drivability while in operation. The transmission intermittently disengages and the gear indicator rapidly cycles between park, reverse, neutral, and drive without driver input. During these events, the vehicle loses propulsion and becomes unsafe to operate in traffic. Warning messages and instrument cluster anomalies were observed prior to and during the failures, including erratic dashboard behavior. The issue has occurred multiple times and is reproducible. The condition appears to be related to a known safety recall involving the transmission lead frame / powertrain control system. The failure creates a serious safety risk due to sudden loss of power and inability to control vehicle movement, especially in traffic or while stopped at intersections. The vehicle is not safe to drive and has been removed from regular service. Diagnostic data, video evidence, and photographs documenting the failure and warning indicators are available upon request. The manufacturer has been notified and a recall case has been opened, but the defect has not yet been resolved. The vehicle remains unrepaired at the time of this report.
Driving 70 mph on highway. Transmission suddenly downshifted from 6th to 5th. Cruise control turned off. Speedometer went to 0 mph. Airbag warning light came on. Wrench indicator flashed. From this point on, transmission would only use gears 3,4,5. Speedometer continued to read 0. Cruise control remained inoperative and airbag warning light remained on. Wrench indicator turned off after a few minutes. Was able to limp home, but truck had difficulty pulling out from stoplights and stop signs due to not being able to shift below 3rd gear. After shutting off ignition and restarting. Operation returned to normal.
Transmission downshift to first gear on the highway.
In November, shortly after engaging adaptive cruise control on interstate 45 northbound in webster texas the truck indicated an incorrect speed limit of 45 mph and immediately started braking hard causing a hazard on a busy roadway. I stomped on the gas trying to override the automation until I could disable the feature. . Read more...
When I go to accelerate (not every time) (random times) from a near stop during a yielding situation, engine power hesitates to come back on. I've been nearly rear ended twice entering onto highways because of it. I have an appointment Friday with a dealership but they said that they may not be able to do anything for it. . . Im reporting this because that is not acceptable behavior from a dealership. Its a safety issue and its under warranty. . . . Fix it!! when this issue happens I can have the pedal full pressed and it takes several second for the engine to wake up from switching from electric to gas. . (im only able to move 1 to 3 mph). . Or if I want it to snap out of it sooner I rapidly press the accelerator in and out multiple times. . . . Both ways eventually kicks the engine power back on lunging the truck forward.
I was driving along and the truck shifted out of gear. Throttled to high rpm’s and went back into gear causing me to temporarily loose control and it repeated itself 2 more times before I got it stopped and towed home.
Took vehicle to dealership to have recall 19v075 completed. Dealership informed me that Ford motor company will only replace the multi- frame part in the transmission that contains the oss sensor if the vehicle is not older than 10yrs and 150,000 miles. The service advisor at the dealership informed me that if they perform the pcm program update without the mechanical repair being done the intermittent downshift problem would get worse. The truck has downshifted while going down the highway at approximately 60mph and the abrupt downshift nearly caused me to loose control of the vehicle.
On November 2nd, 2025 at approximately 6pm, in houston, texas, my 2025 Ford f?150 with Ford bluecruise engaged in hands?free mode was traveling with traffic at about 70 mph on a major thoroughfare. Without driver input, the system rapidly reduced speed to about 50 mph after it appeared to misinterpret an unknown speed?limit change. This sudden, uncommanded deceleration created a hazardous speed differential with surrounding traffic. I swiftly took over manual control to maintain traffic flow and prevent a potential rear?end collision. No crash or injury occurred, but the behavior constitutes phantom braking and false speed?limit recognition in an advanced driver assistance system feature.
Hello, we have been experiencing downshifting and slipping of shifting with our Ford F-150 that has 80k miles on it. This has caused us to loose power on the road thus putting us in an unsafe position with other drivers. We have reached out to our local dealership where we purchased the vehicle and found that we need a new transmission. When researching this, we found that there are alot of Ford F-150 owners the same years as ours that have the same situation. We are concerned that this is not a recall. It is obviously a safety issue for drivers and others on the road.
