Ford F-150 owners have reported 1,367 problems related to vehicle speed control (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford F-150 based on all problems reported for the F-150.
I own a 2019 Ford F-150 with only 94,000 miles on it—barely approaching 100,000—and I’m already experiencing significant transmission issues. The vehicle is equipped with the 10r80 transmission, and the way it shifts gears is extremely concerning. It’s unreasonable for such a critical component to show this level of failure so early. At this rate, it feels as though I’d need to replace the transmission every 94,000 miles, which is simply unacceptable and raises serious concerns about long-term reliability.

My gear shifter was sticking, making hard to shift gears. I had to pay $1100. 00 dollars to get it fixed. The truck has only 37,000 miles. This seems like a defect not a random component gone bad.

While traveling at highway speeds, my truck will downshift from 6th gear to first gear. On occasion, the heads up display will randomly flash between different driving modes (reverse, m, neutral) as if it is resetting. This also happens at medium speeds (20-30 mph).

Today, [xxx] while driving at highway speed this vehicle experienced a unrequested transmission downshift, from 6th to 3rd, causing unexpected rapid vehicle deceleration. I was located in the center lane of an interstate and travelling at 70 mph when this incident happen which force the traffic behind me to take rapid accident avoidance actions. I did not hear any audible or see any visual warnings that this incident was about to happen. This vehicle will be taken to starling Ford located at 3000 cheney hwy, titusville, FL 32780 on June 16, 2025. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

My 2013 has the same transmission problem of an unexpected downshift to 1st gear while driving at highway speeds as the newer model year f150’s. I would like to see all f150’s with that model transmission (6r80) included into the recall. I believe this would include 2011 through 2018 model years.

At times mainly turning right or left you have no acceleration while pushing the gas pedal. Its like the pedal is dead and then all of sudden it kicks in and accelerates abruptly. Huge safety hazard in multiple ways.

Vehicle transmission will instantly drop to gears 3 to 5 (limp mode from what I have researched) & wrench light comes on. Very dangerous on the interstate traveling at 70mph+, seems to happen more frequently on hotter days. You can park & turn off vehicle, then crank back up, & it is out of limp mode but transmission is sluggish. Initially it was happening once per week on avg, now it is a toss up on each drive I do whether it goes into limp mode or not.
F150 downshifted into first gear while driving down the highway at full speed. Speedometer stopped registering. Sudden and abrupt deceleration. Engine warning light on. Took the truck to the local Ford dealer, malloy Ford charlottesville, va and service department said the molded leadframe needed to be replaced per customer satifaction program (csp) 19n01, but Ford would not cover the cost. I believe that Ford needs to cover the cost. I never received a letter notification from Ford and had it in service at the same dealer in August 2022 and they did not notify me of the outstanding csp and need to service per 19n01.
Truck has been downshifting at low gears prior to this main incident. Usually at low speeds between the 1-3 gears. But today I was driving down the highway at approximately 65 mph in the 6th gear and without warning it seemed to electrically down shift into 1st gear. I describe it as electrically because the rpm’s dropped almost instantly for a second and seemed to reboot. Which is extremely dangerous especially on a busy highway. Not only could I cause me to crash but also others to wreck into my self and poses a incredible risk for my fellow drivers and this is the reason for my complaint. Going from the 6th gear to 1st has to be some sort of recall and or an indication of far greater problem. What is even more odd there have been no check engine lights on for any of these instances.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while at a four-way stop, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The contact stated that the engine revved up, but the vehicle failed to respond. The brake pedal was released, and the vehicle lunged forward, almost causing a crash. The contact stated that the vehicle was jerking while driving at various speeds. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 162,000.

The transmission jumps gears at any speed, I was researching the topic and saw the NHTSA is probing some f150s for a similar problem. And I was wondering if my vehicle was in the affected line of production.
Cruise control activation and set are only one touch on steering wheel far left button. The button for this is located where left hand palm falls on steering wheel, leading to unintended activation. Could be resolved by two step activation, I. E: press on, then press the separate set button.
We were driving on the highway when the truck starting jerking/shuttering and losing power. The wrench light came on, we put on the hazard lights and limped off the nearest exit.
The faulty output shaft speed sensor (oss) causes a signal loss between the sensor and the powertrain control module (pcm), leading to a sudden downshift into first gear, regardless of the vehicle's speed. This sudden downshift can cause the rear tires to slide, potentially leading to a loss of control and an increased risk of a crash. There is already a recall for the 2014 models and my 2013 is having the exact same issue. This has been an ongoing problem since I bought the truck in December 2024.
Wrench light popped on downshift to first gear, speedometer goes to zero. My son and I driving down highway and it suddenly drops to first gear. Dealer said it sounds like transmission molded lead frame. Code reader says it's speed sensor which is in lead frame harness.

My 2013 f150 had been acting strangely in showing a wrench on the led screen and shutting off the electrical components on my dash. When this happens, it also sticks the transmission in between 3-5th gear. I am unable to shift down to 1st or 2nd gear, or up to 6th gear. After this happened a few times, it started to shift me in to park and stop my wheels from turning. This happened to me 3 times while traveling down the highway at 80mph. All 3 times, it lasted only a few seconds, but it was enough to screech my brand new tires and leave marks on the ground as if I had slammed on my brakes. It returns to normal and continues down the road.
Ford supposedly repaired my truck via recall 24s37 on June 6 2025. However, while driving at approx 65 mph 2 days later, my truck downshifted again to first gear. This went on for another 2 weeks until I took it back to crossroads Ford in henderson nc again and they notated that I have a code p1500 and code p0722 which is a lead frame in transmission issue but they did not repair it. . Again. It is currently at the same dealership and they called me from dearborn mi to inform me that I am not covered. It is a 2014 with 308,000 miles. I am relegated to driving 30 mph if I am to drive it as shifting down is unsafe. The issue is that it is a Ford defect even if I am at 308k and they refuse to rectify my issue so that my family can ride safely. Summary from crossroads Ford in henderson reads oss sensor circuit fault code p0722, p1500. . . Possible leas frame transmission. . . . . I am fully aware a recall repair carries with it at least a 1 year warranty.

I am experiencing a serious and potentially dangerous issue with the transmission in my 2019 Ford F-150 lariat equipped with the 10-speed 10r80 automatic transmission. At highway speeds (65–75 mph), the truck will occasionally downshift abruptly into a much lower gear without any input from the driver. This causes the engine rpms to spike and creates a sudden deceleration, which could easily lead to a rear-end collision or loss of control.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford F-150. The contact stated that after exiting a store and entering the vehicle, the contact secured the seat belt, depressed the brake pedal, and shifted into reverse(r), and the vehicle unintendedly accelerated across the parking lot. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal was not depressed during the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle came to a stop after crashing into a guard rail, stopping the vehicle from driving into a pond. The air bags did not deploy. There was no injury sustained, and medical attention was not needed. There was no police report filed. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and a case was filed. The approximate failure mileage was 117,000.

Sudden shift into first gear at any speed. Dash lights flickering between p,r,n,d. Tool light coming on dash.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 75 mph, the vehicle unintendedly decelerated to 45 mph. The contact stated that the vehicle also hesitated while driving. The contact stated that the transmission unexpectedly downshifted without warning. The contact stated that the vehicle was pulling and decelerated unintendedly. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 24v444000 (power train). The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was unknown.
I noticed in the fall of 2024 that my transmission stared shifting hard between 30-40 mph during acceleration. I had the local Ford dealership check out the issue and they stated I needed a new transmission and included an estimate. I decided to seek information from 2 independent transmission shops and they could not confirm that I needed the transmission replaced at that time. The vehicle has been driving fine and I recently started to notice the hard shift again at 30 mph. Every once in a while, when the hard shift occurs, it seems like I lose power to the drive train and my vehicle slows down to about 15 mph and vehicles need to go around me. It only lasts for a few seconds and then the acceleration will continue to drive normal. I do notice an increase in rpm's from time to time as well while shifting around 30 mph but does not feel like it is slipping. Once through this area of shifting, the vehicle operates normally shifting through other gears. There were no warning lights or other symptoms leading to this issue. I did notice that there was an article posted with a possible transmission issue from this year vehicle that is being investigated concerning sudden down shifting while driving. Here is the article [xxx]. I am wondering if this is part of this issue? information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Numerous times my vehicle has suddenly came to a stop pit itself in park and turned off the engine while I was driving at a speed of 25 mph. Several times while cruise control was active my vehicle increased in speed and pressing the break didn't deactivate my cruise control I had to manually turn it off. My crash detection has gone off several times when there was nothing around my vehicle.
The car has very bad cam phasers that are a manufacturing issue from Ford. This is causing a lot of damage to the engine and also it has put me in very dangerous situations because of the huge decrease in power when I am exiting into a highway or changing lanes. I have spoke to Ford and they did not want to help me especially when they have had multiple recalls for this in the past and even extended recalls. Please help me with this, because it's a big issue and it's a manufacturing problem from Ford.
Acceleration without foot on gas pedal, erratic & harsh shifting, and slipping gears.

The button on the steering wheel get hot then fail to work this has happened several times I have complained to Ford. The cruise control quits working and all the buttons for the dash menu quit working. I will be driving down the road with the cruise control on and all of a sudden it will quit working. Then it will just come back on like you never shut it off and when you least expect it. When this happens you can not shut the thing off its gonna cause an accident.
When put into drive, vehicle unexpectedly accelerated. Could not control or stop the vehicle. The vehicle is no longer available for inspection. The inability to stop the vehicle put myself and other drivers and pedestrians at extreme risk. I am not aware if the vehicle was inspected for cause after the incident. No warnings or symptoms presented themselves at the time of the incident.
Vehicle fails to accelerate and change gears (1-3); and vehicle fails to accelerate. While driving at a cruising speed and trying to pass vehicle will not change gears (8-10). Jerks and shutters while trying to accelerate. Was told that the transmission is bad and would cost $8,000 minimum to repair.
While driving the vehicle it often shifts out of gear. It will hard shift change and not drive, which causes people behind you to have to unexpectedly stop or speed up on you because truck shifts out of gear. Very dangerous situation, and online people often complain about it.
Safety issue. Engine code p0720 which means the output speed sensor sends erratic signals to the power train module or pcm. There is a recall on this truck for this exact thing. What happens is the gears in the transmission don’t shift smoothly and what happened to me was I was driving 70mph all of sudden the truck made a loud bang and I was in 6th gear and the truck went from being in 6th gear just dropped into 1st gear and at 70mph it’s pretty frightening. The brakes locked up and I managed to stay calm and regain control of the vehicle and pull over. Immediately I seen a big yellow wrench on the dashboard along with the check engine light so I turned it off and restarted it thinking maybe the computer will reset. The truck is literally stuck in like 3rd or 4th gear because I can’t go past 40 mph. I was only 5 mins away from home as soon as I got home I use my code machine and the engine code I received was p0720. I contacted my larsen Ford in lakewood NJ they informed me about the recall but told me that they’re not paying for any repairs because it’s past 10 years. It ended in January of 2024. I didn’t buy the truck until July 2024 I had no idea about any recalls. I’m not the original owner. I just assumed since it’s a safety issue that the manufacturer must be responsible for all repairs regardless of how long it’s been. I bought the truck with only 38,000 miles on it presently it has 40,000 miles on it now but I don’t think it’s fair that I have to pay for everything to be fixed myself.
Truck randomly downshifts/ jerks really hard while driving all speeds. On 4/19 I was driving 65mph and truck felt like slamming brakes on, while speedometer pin bounces around, then a wrench showed up on the dash screen, I pulled over turned truck off sat for a few minutes, turned it back on, everything seemed finer and continued driving home, with no more issues. On 4/27 I was coming home from groccery store going about 30-35mph truck dropped down to first gear and then back to 4th gear. My pregnant wife and daughter were in the car when this happened. I've called local Ford dealership, and they ask me to come in for diagnosis, but I know this is a factory recall issue via 24v-444. I'm not sure if the truck is safe to drive, this randomly happens, but seems to be happening more and more frequently past 2 months or so.
Have had issues with transmission for years and was checked previously and dealer said no problems. Seems like it was down shifting for no reason. No recalls. In 2024 while driving I experienced sudden loss of power and seemed like down shifting from transmission on major highway and almost came to a stop in the middle of the lane. This was frightening! this continued to happen. Took to dealer and they said I had to replace the transmission.
Multiple times now while driving at low speed and usually making a right hand turn, the throttle becomes totally unresponsible to driver input. Pressing the throttle does not increase ice rpm and does not accelerate the vehicle. This has occured while entering active roadways and has created a dangerous situation multiple times. Someone will be injured with these vehicles, it is only a matter of time if this failure to accelerate issue is not recalled and fixed. The date below is only the last incident. I now have over 120k miles and it has done this well over 50 times.
While driving I was coming to a stop approaching a traffic circle. I had to yield the car already in the circle as I was stopping the truck made a clunk and lunged forward while I was breaking forcing me to enter the circle before it was safe to do so. I almost collided with the approaching vehicle with a child in the car. Another instance the vehicle between shifting gears randomly lost power as if it shifted into neutral, then a loud clunk as it finally found the gear when it did the vehicle lunged forward. Another instance with the vehicle in park I started the engine, after the starter finished and the engine turned over there was a loud clunk and the vehicle lunged forward in park enough that the tires made a noise and could have hit a parked car in-front of me. The dealership said it is a known issues with the 10r80 transmission and will cost me $8,000 to $10,000 to repair. This transmission has always clunked and missed gears since I bought it new in 2018 and I have had it looked at multiple times, but the dealerships always said its “normal” Ford knows this is an issues and has not issued a recall and it is very dangerous.
While driving my vehicle speedometer goes to zero which no recognition of speed. If brought to a stop I can’t get out of first gear. Ford issued a “customer satisfaction program 19n01” related to the 6r80 transmissions, sudden transmission downshift. This “customer satisfaction” should have been a non expiring recall. The check engine sometimes flicks on but does not stay on or show a code. Issue is intermittent and lasts 10-15 min until vehicle recognizes it’s not incapable of shifting. Given this severely limiting malfunction I highly recommend the recall be extended indefinitely to make sure these vehicles are fixed properly.
