I am now having the water leak issue into the gem due to faulty windshield seal. It is starting to cause electrical system malfunctions. The following is a TSB released by Ford: Ford special message #15773 various electrical conditions resulting from water intrusion into the gem/cjb some 1997-2002 expedition and 1998-2002 navigator vehicles may exhibit various unusual electrical conditions, including but not limited front or rear blower or eatc staying on with key out of the ignition, radio staying on after doors opened and key out of ignition, wiper circuit failure codes, and multiple system warning lights with 'short to power' or 'low battery voltage' dtcs. These symptoms most often occur after a rain or snow. This may be due to gem/cjb water intrusion resulting from a windshield water leak. To service, remove the gem and cjb from the vehicle, separate them and inspect for water contamination or corrosion. If found in either component, replace both components and completely reseal the windshield. After doing some research on the internet I have found that I am not the only soul experiencing these issues. Apparently Ford is not fixing this obvious manufacturing defect at their expense but passing it to the customers. This is obviously a Ford issue that they have known about for quite some time. Please help with resolving this issue as some people have spent in the thousands fixing issues that this water intrusion issue has caused.
My vehicle is a 2003 f150 xl. I awoke this morning to find the cab of my truck full of smoke and the smell of burning plastic. I noticed a trail of smoke originating from the steering column. I immediately disconnected the battery and removed the dashboard around the steering column. I found exposed wiring and melted components leading into the high-beam selector lever.

Gas pedal to brake is a 3" lift from gas pedal than apply brakes on new F-150 w/5 speed transmission, this increases time to stop over one second. Also the accessory 12v port for phones or ipods etc doesn't shut-off when key is removed, possibly causing a vehicle fire if left unattended for any long length of time.

I receive storm damages to my vehicle. During the process of repairing the vehicle we sustain injuries from the windshield fibers and glass, in the vents which the repair shop said that the glass is impossible to remove. The truck has a defect in the heat control and the radio panel get extremely hot. We inhale the fiber from the glass , it got in our eyes, stinging and itching, etc. I was told that this may be a product problem.

I purchased my 2002 Ford f150 super crew in August of 2002. I have had ongoing problems since I purchased the vehicle, and have had no responses or assistance from any Ford dealerships. The problems started out with my radio going on and off all on its own. I took my vehicle to the dealership at least 10 times alone for this problem. Never any assistance. The problems escalated around 40,000 miles and my whole electrical system seemed to be shorting out. I have had fire under the dash, the headlights not work, the wipers would only work when the vehicle was in park, same thing with the heater, it would not turn off after you shut the vehicle off. Now this week I had another fire which I was able to put out on my own. I took it to a different dealer and they identified the problem with the gem module and central junction box. Apparently the vehicle was not put together correctly and these modules keep shorting out causing my vehicles problems. I have to wonder everyday whether or not my vehicle is going to catch fire and burn up. On a daily basis I can smell smoke coming from under the dash almost like burning plastic or wiring. None of the problems have been addressed and seem to be escalating. To me this is a safety issue. I would hate to think that I would be traveling with my family and the car catch fire while we are driving. The electrical system needs to be investigated and repaired. None of which has been done by the dealer I purchased the vehicle from. I even filed a complaint with the Ford motor company and received no real concern.
1998 Ford f 150. Headlamps failed at night in a blizard, causing loss of sight at a medium rate of speed resulting in a dangerous situation. Will need a new multifunction positional dimmer switch in column replaced.

The truck caught on fire while parked in the driveway. The truck sat for a day prior to the fire. The fire department and consumer extinguished the fire. The fire originated from under the hood. The fire melted the engine components, destroyed the entire hood, and totaled the vehicle. A mechanic indicated that the fire was due to an electrical failure.
In April 2004 my son awakend to see his 2000 Ford f150 pick-up truck on fire. It burned the engine beyond recognition. I have photos of the damage. I contacted Ford motor and they told me to call the insurance CO. My son only had collision insurance on the truck because of money problems. Thus he was left without transportation. My research on the web at the time led me to believe this was a problem Ford would not, or had not addressed. Many others had experienced similar problems. What can I do about it?.
While the vehicle was parked on the driveway it caught on fire. Flames and smoke came under the dashboard.
Heater switch that increases and decreases the heat has been replaced 5 times since I've had the vehicle. Vehicle had 8,000 miles when I bought it.

When using the cigarette lighter the whole lighter got too hot and went right through the dash. It burned through plastic and wire burned in half. Very dangerous. This could have burned up the whole dash. Burned my wife's hand after it went through the holder.
Vehicle's main computer is failing as a result of a leak, that causes corrosion. Ph.
While driving the vehicle noticed a problem in the instrumental cluster dash board, dealer and manufacturer has been notified. (see odi#0814163). Nlm.
Turn signal worked as expected when vehicle was new, then soon the right turn signal became sporadic as to when it would work. Local dealership said there was nothing wrong that they could discover. However, now the right signal doesn't work at all. I don't mean the bulb-- I mean the switch on the steering column. Left works fine;right doesn't work at all. Makes it difficult to let other drivers know where I'm going, could cause an accident.
A burning/smoke was coming from under dash, unable to locate problem. Dealer was notified. Feel free to provide any further details on this matter.
Door crack on drivers side/door adjar light stays on/rear sliding window leaks water excessively.
While traveling on the interstate at approx. 60 mph, the engine shut off and the dashboard gauges and odometer went blank. I was not able to restart the engine and the vehicle had to be towed from the travel lane of the highway. The Ford dealer that the vehicle was towed to, stevens Ford in milford, CT claims that there is a open wire in the dashboard wiring.

Fire started after vehicle was parked, started under dash near brake pedal on firewall.
This truck burned down a shop building on 1-6-00.
No summary.
The bad door switch causes the dome light and bed light to stay on until the vehicle reaches about 20 mph, making it difficult to see when backing up at night. I have talked to other owners of similar trucks who have the same problem.
Wire harness in steering column failing, due to this the turn signals and brake lights fail, Ford has replaced the harness many times, but the problem has not been resolved.
Majority of problems have been with front and rear suspension in addition to the following: cambers, slugs, toes, rotors, gear box, springs, drag links, tie rods, bushings, trans cross members, stabilizer barrs, bushings, electrical, computer, transmission, oil leaks, ignition cylinder, and replacement of four wheel drive components. Dealership tells me their hands are tied. Ford motor company only "documents" difficulties and I can't get past a customer service representative who can do nothing but put my complaints into a database. Repeated letters and phone calls have gone unresolved and Ford motor company has made no attempt at customer service! I was told today that notice would be sent to the local field office where they would contact the dealer service manager and most likely not me directly although I asked that they do so. There have been ten service appointments for these parts to be replaced. I now have another appointment for Aug. 9th - we still have front and rear suspension problems. To date, our truck has been at the service for repairs for a total of 22 days.
Computer controller failed.
Flames started coming from underneath the dash. Uncertain of where it originated from.
I have contacted Ford motor CO. By phone & email and they say they will get back w/me and never do. There is no follow up on their part. No customer service and no satisfaction. The customer service ended at the signing of the bill of sale. No safety defect.
