Truck experienced multiple sensor failures over several months that reset. Failures include car stalling in intersection, blind spot monitoring, back up sensors, car shutting off and turning back on on its own. Car had to be powered down and shut off for 30 seconds before being allowed to restart. Most recent failure resulted in truck horn going off as well as car turning off while going 35-40 mph then restarting on its own - car surged forward after it restarted itself. At the same time hazards coming on, doors unlocking and locking and rear tailgate opening. After bringing car to a complete stop, shut off car and it turned itself back on (horn went off, hazards went on, doors unlocked and locked, and rear tail gate released). Failure Date: 06/15/2012

After the recall to prevent a short between horn and air bag was completed in 2011 a short time thereafter in the middle of the night the horn came on by itself in the locked vehicle with no one in it. After trying everything I could think of like starting the engine and pushing the horn button numerous times. I was about ready to disconnect the battery when in anger I hit the center of the steering wheel very hard with my hand and the horn stopped blowing. From that day on the airbag warning light stays on when the engine runs. And the horn blows half as loud as it originally did when activated. Ford says its my problem because the recall was already completed. Only problem here is that that their was no problem at all until after the recall work.

16 Horn Assembly problem of the 2003 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/10/2012

Was heavy rain outside then my truck started blowing the horn, heater was turning on and off, lights going on and off by them selves. Figured its part of the issue with the windshield issue Ford knows about since 2002. The notice was *Ford special message #15773 which covered a few vehicles but has expanded to cover other vehicles. Last year, I was on the highway during heavy rain and all the sudden, all power went off, windshield wipers stopped working, radio was going funny, heat was turning on and off, it was difficult to drive. That only lasted for a few seconds but made it where I got off the highway, made it back to my house then brought it to Ford to find out the issue. I opted not to have the work done at that time for the mechanic said its okay for the time being. But corrosion was starting and I needed to have the windshield fixed before the issue at hand could be fixed, because if I didn't, it just would cause the issues a few years down the road again. Looking through, I see you have a lot of "electrical issues" being brought up, and all of them from what I have seen look to be caused by the same issue, mind you that this issue is known from vehicles 1998 - 2003, possibly into the 2004.

Like jb, who filed an earlier complaint my 1997 Ford F-150 also spontaneously burst into flames from the engine compartment after having been parked in my driveway for about 10 hours over night. The engine had not been run, was not hot, and had no malfunctioning parts to my knowledge. I was awakened by the sound of my truck's horn. The fire burned the engine completely, destroyed the hood, cab, and the entire of the front end of the truck before it could be put out by the fire department. The fire marshal indicated that there was no sign of malicious intent or vandalism. According to the fire marshal, the fire originated in the electrical relay junction box located over the driver's side front tire.

30 Horn Assembly problem of the 1997 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 06/03/2003

My 1997 Ford f150 spontaneously combusted in front of my house after being parked for about 12 hours overnight. There was a short horn burst, followed by a pop, then a fire erupted under the hood. The incident occurred about 6:30 am, while I was still in bed, half-asleep, after my clock radio had just come on. A neighbor looked out of her window after hearing the horn, but didn't see anyone around the vehicle. She then heard the pop, and saw the fire start. She called 911, then called me. By the time I got outside, the entire engine compartment was engulfed in flame. I ran back in the house to get a fire extinguisher, but by the time I got back outside, the entire cab was also on fire. A stunned crowd of neighbors and I watched as the fire truck arrived and put the fire out.

31 Horn Assembly problem of the 1996 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 02/27/2003

The horn buttons on my 1996 Ford F-150 are almost impossible to press without taking your eyes off the road and scanning the steering wheel to locate them. Numerous times I have not been able to find them in emergency situations. In every emergency situation I have experienced, my hands end up pressing on the air bag cover and then on the cruise control buttons. Only after I have narrowly avoided a crash due to not having time to look down at the steering wheel to discover where the horn buttons are. The horn button layout could not possibly have proceeded through the design and testing process without numerous warnings and complaints by the test engineers and other analyst's. Ford appears to have left this design flaw in place to avoid an expensive redesign of the 1996 model F-150. It was only in production from September 1995 through December 1995 then Ford introduced the redesigned 1997 model in January 1996. It appears that they opted to sacrifice operator safety in their rush to migrate to the new truck design.

Defective horn switch in steering wheel/air bag. Ph.

Transmission problems: clutch does not want to disengage properly. Driver must attempt to change gears repeatedly in order to shift. This produces dangerous driving problems. Ignition problem: frequently on start the ignition switch fails to turn on all equipment and abs brake light comes on. Reported to local dealer and was told to jiggle the switch. Unacceptable. Horn problem: in hazardous driving situations, attempt to sound horn is impossible since area of steering wheel that will cause horn to sound is extremely small. This results in dangerous driving conditions.

34 Horn Assembly problem of the 1998 Ford F-150

The horn and cruise control do not work. According to many website postings the two are related. Evidently there is a so called "spring clip" in the steering column that needs replacing- cost is around 300. 00. This is quite a common problem on the f-series pickups. I can put a fuse in and it will short when I use the horn.

35 Horn Assembly problem of the 1996 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 01/01/2000

There are two horn buttons on side of wheel about size of postal stamp. When driver really needs to get to horn right away it's hard to find the buttons. It was difficult to use a horn especially while turning the wheel because of poor design of the wheel.
