There was frost on the rear window. While the car was in park and warming up I turned on the rear defroster. I started to smell a burning smell. There was a loud bang and back left window panel completely shattered. No one was injured thankfully, but if the glass would have blown out and we had our baby or passengers in the back there could have been injury. I am not only concerned about the glass shattering, but the fact that there was a burning smell. I have found several forums where people report the same issue across many years of f150s (2010-2019). Defroster is turned on and the back window shatters. I contacted Ford and they will not do anything because the vehicle is out of the warranty period. Sounds like there is something faulty that they need to fix or issue a recall. I reached out to my insurance company and after I get a few quotes I may file a claim depending on the replacement cost and my deductible amount. Only other "symptom" was the smell of burning right before the glass shattered.

While driving on the freeway with defroster on in rainy weather conditions, the rear window spontaneously shattered and made a very loud popping sound as though it exploded. There was no impact that caused the spontaneous shattering. Three children under the age of 9 were seated in the back in car seats / booster seats. The windows behind them broke. They were in danger of the entire window falling through until we could safely exit the freeway and pull over. Upon parking, the window fell through and tiny pieces glass fell into the the truck bed and onto the back seats. No one was injured, though the children in the back were distressed by the incident. The entire back window was completely shattered and the edges of the window were cracked in a jagged pattern. And insurance claim was filed. No police report or other inspections have been completed by insurance or the dealer. There was no warning signal that we in danger of the window spontaneously shattering. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

I was driving with my defrost on front and rear windows at night time. I was stopped at a light when I heard a loud bang followed by a crackling noise. I safely found a spot to park close by and inspected if anything hit my truck. Nothing. My rear window on my cab was completely shattered. No evidence of anything hitting it. My truck bed was completely empty and had the canopy on. There was nothing in between the rear truck and canopy. What the heck? had to be the rear defrost. There are multiple stories on the internet just like mine, with zero recall!!!! Ford make this right. Now I’m out 780. 00 due to Fords faulty defrost wiring.

Driving down the road at 40mph on the way to work this morning. Turned on the rear window defroster and about 2 minutes later, the driver side panel of the back tempered glass window spontaneously shattered. There is no evidence of any obvious defect to either side of the window. An impact wouldn't be possible given I was driving forward at 40 mph. I have looked online and seen message boards full of similar reports but don't see any recalls. I wanted to add my report to the numbers as this is ridiculous and I now have to pay $800 to have something replaced that definitely appears to be a known manufacturer defect.
