: the contact stated he is concerned about the design of the vehicle. The vehicle has four doors but only two door handles. The back doors cannot be opened without opening the front doors. I have a 1999 Ford F-150 extended cab there is a crack in the metal area next to the window area on both big doors. I contacted the local Ford dealership and they told me that certain model years that this has happened. These cracks are getting worse. Since I found this I look at other Ford trucks and on certain years I believe 1999-2003 or 2004 on the ext . Cabs that these cracks appear on either one side and certain years on both sides. I have called Ford but they will not respond. I can fax you a picture of these cracks if you like. I believe these cracks have been there since manufacture date.

On my 1997 Ford F-150 I noticed that I have cracks on the doors by the windows, while researching this I found this is a common problem on this truck. When I called Ford service center for help they told me to replace the doors (at my cost) and if a recall comes out I would get my money back. I found out about the cracks at "f150online. Com" and it seems that Ford has replaced some doors but most (and their are a lot of complaints) are not being taken care of. Can you help?.

The contact stated the front and rear third do not always close completely. This sometimes allowed water to leak into the vehicle when it rained or when it was washed. There was no indicator letting the contact know the door did not close properly. The dealer was not contacted.

Crack in the metal in the driver door at the rear of the window on my 2000 F-150. Ford has a TSB but because it is out of warranty, Ford will not repair the door.
My Ford F-150 has a defect in the doors that causes the metal to split and then rust. I contacted Ford directly, who told me they have no knowledge of the problem and that the warranty on my 1999 had expired a few months ago. . Read more...
Bought a brand new 2003 f150 super crew in December of 2002. It now has 22,000 miles on it and the bottom inside of all four doors are rusting and bubbling out. Will bring into dealer to see what is the problem and have it fixed with some guarantee it wouldn't happen again.

I have a 2000 Ford F-150 4wd suipercab pickup. On the drivers side door, there is a crack starting in the sheet metal. It is currently located to the right of the window, under the weather stripping and is starting to proceed out. Currently it is about 3/8" to 1/4" long. There is another one that appears to be starting about an inch above it. I'm concerned that the crack will progress across the door and the door will fail. I'm not the only one with this problem. . I have a structural crack in the metal on the lower rear corner of the drivers side door. It is currently one half inch in length and growing. After doing some research and some investigation on similar Ford f150's I have found that this is not an isolated problem, but rather a fairly common one. I have also noticed that this is very issue has been brought to the attention of the ntsb. I called Ford today, and received the unsatisfactory answer that, since my warranty is expired a repair is not covered. I hope that the ntsb is looking at this matter closely and will issue a decision on it soon. I am worried that the structural integrity of my vehicle is compromised, and that the manufacturer Ford has not taken the proper steps to fix this problem. I believe that Ford and the ntsb will be to blame if I or a member of my family is injured because of a documented door failure.
I have the same problem indicated in service bulletin number: 996754 with my 1997 Ford f150 on the drivers side door only. Even though the crack is not yet visible on the passengers side door removal of the belt moulding will most likely reveal the crack (Ford engineering design fault) is present. I'm the original owner and even the though vehicle is out of warrenty Ford should be held responsible for the full cost of the repairs to fix their engineering problems.
There are structural cracks developing on both driver and passengers doors on the rear upright adjacent to the exterior handle.
Crack is present in the door sheet metal at the lower rear of the window opening near the belt molding.
I noticed a 1/2" crack on the drivers side door, next to the power window. I also noticed alot of other complaints on this same crack. I take good care of my truck and see no reason for a stress crack like this. I feel that since there are alot of other complaints, Ford should fix this problem as a recall, especially if they are making a kit to fix this. I have been buying and driving Ford products for over 20 yrs. This was my first new f150 and I wasn't expecting a problem such as this one!!.
Structural-stress fractures in sheet metal on door.
Exterior - door - driver and passenger - cracks along the curve on body along the bottom back curve of the window molding.
Driver's side door frame developed a crack. As a result, the door rusted and leaked water.
Crack forming on drivers door at bottom of window. Also rust developing at bottom of both driver and passenger doors. Crack is a known problem for years. When will Ford fix this once and for all. Nhtsa needs to get involved.
My 2000 Ford f150 super-cab door is starting to crack, approximately 3" above the bottom of the window. My research on-line shows that many other Ford f150 from 1997-2000 are experiencing this same problem. I have been in contact with Ford customer service, who state there are no known problems of this type.
Discovered a crack in driver's side door next to window.
Consumer noticed that all four doors rusted. Dealer was very cooperative. Manufacturer's representative indicated that it was consumer's problem, not Ford company's responsibility.
Metal fatigue on driver and passenger door at window bend by moulding. Metal is cracked open large enough so water can enter.
I own a 2000 f150 supercab and the doors are having the popular crack next to the window above the door handle. I have a friend who owns a '97 and both of his doors are doing the same thing. If these cracks continue all the way across the door frame the door will fall apart and will provide no protection in an accident. The local body shop owner has fixed several of the '97 to '02 f150 supercabs. This is obviously a flaw in the design and/or engineering.
Drivers side door has a small stress crack in the sheet metal by the lower rear weather striping on the window, called my dealer and Ford they couldn't help me.
Exhibit cracks in the door sheet metal at the lower rear of the belt molding.
There is a crack on both doors on my Ford F-150, by the window. This looks like a stress crack and not wear and tear.
I am the original owner of a 1998 F-150 Ford 4x4 pick-up truck which is exibiting a cracking condition at the lower welting edge of the window on the drivers side door. Understand this is occurring on many other f150's and appears to be an engineering design manufacturing flaw.
Metal on drivers door is cracked at rear of window , about three to four inches up from bottom of window. Mine is not the only one. There are many 98 F-150's out there with the same structural flaw.
Doors are cracking approximately 4 1/2 inch from the bottom of the window where the door handles are located. Vehicle has never been in an accident. Manufacturer is aware the problem, and a repair kit is available. The cost of the kit is $600. 00 per door.
My drivers side door on my 2000 f150 is cracking just to the right of the window.
The driver's side door covering(skin) has developed a crack around the corner of the window. This occurs because the power window covering(skin) flex when the window is closed. This is a common problem and the dealership is replacing the covering that cost $400. This doesn't correct the failure.
I have a 1999 Ford F-150 that developed a crack in the door.
I have a 2000 f150 and I too have the famous crack on the driver's door. I talked to my selling dealer, they just wanted to put a new door on my truck at full cost to me. I thought this was real bad as this truck has very low miles. I talked to Ford customer support and they denied that there was a problem with door cracks even though I provided the TSB letter to the Ford customer support rep. I was told it was not covered under the manufactor's or extended warranty I purchased. Furthermore, I was told that I would be responsible for all charges.
I own a 1997 Ford f150 that is developing a crack in the door on the drivers side at the lower rear corner of the window, apparently this is a common problem and I am concerned that it may make my vehicle less safe in a side collision.
