1 Front Seat Belt Anchorage problem of the 1997 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 05/17/2005

1997 Ford F-150 truck where seat belt in the front/passenger vehicle will not clasp any more. There is no debree in the mechanisms that would prohibit the seat belt from clasping together. Have rec'd estimate for $200+ to fix the "one" seat belt. Can I trust the other 3 seat belts (one of which is around a baby seat in the back). I called the Ford motor vehicle consumer service line at 800-392-3673 and spoke to a gentleman named carson. Carson looked up warranties on my vehicle, which I kind of found comical. On a vehicle of almost 9 years old, there does not exist a warranty. He asked if I had an extended warranty and promptly let him know that that would have expired a couple of years ago and yes, I did have that. He said that the warranty on seat belts is listed as 5 years or 50,000 miles. What happens after that? are air bags the same? I have just over 100,000 miles on my truck. He also stated that there have been no recalls on seat belts for the Ford f150, according to the records under my VIN number. Should there be a full scale recall of all Ford vehicles in and around the year 1997 that installed the same make/model/year of seat belt? I am very concerned about the other 3 seat belts (and one being over the baby seat in the back) and about all the other folks who are in danger of their seat belts just giving way during an accident. Dont' wait for an accident to happen and kill someone. When this happened to my seat belt, I was shocked. That is the one part of the car, besides my air bag, that better not ever go bad. The part has been ordered from my shell mechanic from Ford and hopefully I will be able to get the new seat belt installed on Tuesday/Wednesday (5/23, 5/24) but do I trust the other three seat belts? I see from the questions following this description, you want to know if there was an accident -- no, thank god. But there could have been.

Shoulder harness on seat belts causing problems, excessive pressure on shoulder. Seat belt is attached to the back of the seat and comes from approximately 4" below the shoulder from the rear and over. Contacted Ford about problem. They seem not to have had any other complaints about problems with the seat belts in the 2004 F-150 supercabs.

3 Front Seat Belt Anchorage problem of the 1996 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/28/2002

On Sunday April 28, 2002 we were driving the subject Ford truck. When we returned home, the seat-belt on the passenger side would not unbuckle. After working with the belt for approximately 10 minutes, we had to cut the belt to allow my wife to get out of the truck. This problem had never happened before. On Monday, April 29, 2002 , I contacted ft. Mill Ford in ft. Mill, SC. I was told this does on occasion happen, and because the truck has over 50,000 miles, there is no warranty for the belt. My concern is that this problem could have resulted in a very serious situation had there been an emergency. If this is a common problem with these seatbelts, someone needs to correct this problem.

4 Front Seat Belt Anchorage problem of the 2002 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/01/2001

Both locking pawls on manual seat adjustment mechanism do not lock into place when seat adjustment lever is released. One or the other pawl locks into place and a large amount of shifting force is then required to move the second pawl into a position where it will engage. This would only be a minor inconvenience if it were not for the seat belt configuration of this vehicle. This seat belt attaches not to the sub floor or pillar but to the seat itself. If (as has happened many times to me) you are under way and reposition the seat, you may not realize the seat is not safely locked into position. If you were then involved in an accident the strain on the engaged pawl might be beyond design parameters. When the unengaged pawl, traveling to its next locked position under the forces of the accident, meet the mass of the occupant and seat, the shear forces may cause failure of the pawl allowing the occupant and his /her seat to be uncontrolled during an accident. This could result in unnecessary injury to the occupant. An air bag srs could exacerbate this circumstance causing escalating injury(s).

7 Front Seat Belt Anchorage problem of the 1999 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 12/07/1998

We are unable to safely install child safety seats in the back of this truck. We have been told the safest place to hook up a carseat is in the front seat with the air bag turned off. This is not possible as we have two children. The problem is however,is the fact that carseats cannot be put in the backseat properly and within safety guidelines.

My left rear tire blewout while I was driving on i10east in louisiana and the beaumont firestone dealer refused to replace it without me paying full price, 1500 miles, the dealer told me to go to any firestone dealer, since my dealer is located over 100 miles from me, the only firestone dealer to help me was in port arthur and he only charged me a percentage for tire replacement and I purchased and road hazard insurance, but later decided to get rid of the tires after hearing others complaint. 10 Front Seat Belt Anchorage problem of the 1997 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 03/29/1996

Poor seat belt performance, the driver's side seat belt does not stay locked in place.

11 Front Seat Belt Anchorage problem of the 1998 Ford F-150

The rear seatbelts and latches do not anchor through the "slit" where the seatback and the seat cushion meet. The belts (and latches) come up through holes in the seat cushion itself. These holes are located foreward of the line where the seatback and seat cushion come together. As a result it is not possible to snug the child seat base against the back of the car seat. Even with the belt very tightly pulled the child seat moves several inches foreward at the base and rotates sideways. The installation instructions for all the car seats I have tried to fit in the vehicle specify that the belts must come through the slit where the seat cushion and back meet. Is a modification available to remidiate this problem and make the installation safe!! thank you.

12 Front Seat Belt Anchorage problem of the 1997 Ford F-150
