The contact stated the front seat belt retractor quit working without any previous problems. The seat belt will retract and not give any slack. He unbolted the seat belt fitting from the floor to allow the strap to go in further. The strap came out, but subsequently the same thing happened as before. This did not correct the problem. He bolted back the seat belt fitting. The vehicle has not seen by a dealer. No further repairs or corrections were made. Updated 11/29/05.

The contact owns a 2001 Ford f150. The contact stated that the driver side seat belt disengaged without warning. The dealer stated that the seat belt assembly failed and that the recall repair under NHTSA campaign id number 00v348000 (seat belts:front:retractor) had already been performed. The failure mileage was 17,000 and current mileage was 30,000. Updated 1/02/08. Updated 12/12/07 updated 03/10/08. The consumer was informed the seat belt was out of warranty, but the consumer could pay for it at his own expense.
Consumer noticed that both passenger and driver front seat belts were inoperative. Both seat belts locked while driving at normal speed and failed to retract after usage. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic replaced seat belts and retractor. However, the problem recurred.
Driver's seat belt had twisted, not allowing seat belt to retract all the way to the housing. Had contacted dealer for the problem. Please provide more information.

Seat belts in rear seating area is not able to retract or at times come loose from retracting, causing consumer to be stuck in the seat belt, and having to cut off the seat belt to get out.

On several occasions, customer states that the passenger side front seat belt will not retract properly, resulting in, on one occasion, passenger being banged against the front of the cab, dealer replaced right front seat belt retractor, but did not remedy problem.
Rear seat belts will not hold child in safety seat. Took vehicle to dealer ,and dealer stated that it was not safe to have a child in a child safety seat in rear seat. When turning a corner child seat will tip over. One of captain's chair seat belt will not retract. Consumer almost had to cut belt in one incident to avoid passenger from being choked. The seat belt retractors do not reel in the seatbelt. This allows the seatbelt to be caught in the door when it is closed. This will damage the seatbelt, making it ineffective in an accident. In addition the seatbelt has been caught in the lock mechanism making it impossible to open the driver side door from the inside of the truck. This a clear and present safety hazard to the occupants of the vehicle. The seat belt retractor needs to be fixed.
Upon impact, driver's seat belt did not retract resulting in minor injuries.

When you extend the driver or passanger seat belts they do not retract I have talked with several owners of 99 Ford trucks and cars who also have this problem I just wanted to know if this was a safty hazzard and if involved in an accident would the seat belts work I have asked the dealer if that item was recalled and they advised it was not if at all possible could you advise me on this matter via e-mail thank you.

Front seat belts fails to retract after usage. Driver's would hang down, out the door while passenger's would be partially down. Had taken to dealership twice for retractor problems. Mechanic indicated work will not be done on safety equipment.
Intermittently seat belt on driver's side locked up. The seat belt gradually became tighter and tighter. This occurred 3 times in a 15,000 miles trip.
