1 Headlight Switch problem of the 2016 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 08/01/2020

The passenger side led headlight first began to flicker 2 months ago. Headlight would be on and then suddenly go off. Then the problem switched to the driver side headlight. Now, sometimes both lights go off. I have owned the truck for 2 years now and have had multiple people flash me at night indicating that my low beams are still to bright for the other drivers.

2 Headlight Switch problem of the 2019 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/16/2020

Ford issued a day running light (drl) recall on some 2019/2020 f 150 vehicles where some vehicles had drls that would remain daytime bright when the headlights were on. After Ford's fix is applied, all truck lights, except headlights (side marker, tag lights, front lights, trailer lights) are on at all times unless the light switch is manually turned to the off position. In the off position, the drls are off too. Since this is the only way to turn off the unnecessary lighting, it puts the driver into a dangerous situatuion because the drls are off. States require drls to be on especially during poor weather conditions. Ford has managed to totally screw up exterior lighting by creating a fix that doesn't fix the problem. They simply turned on all lights all the time. In response to acknowledging the problem, Ford states that exterior lights will be on when the light switch is in any position except off. So they know the fix they provided doesn't work correctly, but they are unwilling to provide a solution that makes exterior lighting operate normally. That is, drls are on during daylight hours, without all exterior lighting being on. Besides the safety factor, overall light failures will increase with time since there on full time.

3 Headlight Switch problem of the 2004 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 04/14/2015

With headlight selector switch in the auto position the headlights can suddently turn-off while driving. I purchased the vehicle new and have always had the headlight switch in the auto position since day one. When driving at night the headlights suddenly shut-off while going down the highway, very nearly lost control of vehicle when trying to pull over and stop. The park lights still were functioning and got the headlights back on by switching the headlight switch to the manual position. Per discussion with dealer believe the body control module quit working. Specifically, a relay in the bcm has failed but is not replaceable. Repair cost is over $400. 00 to change module. Can't afford right now to fix. Research on internet found numerous other similar failures/symptoms but not clear if happened while vehicle was being driven.

4 Headlight Switch problem of the 1999 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 10/06/2014

Approximately two weeks ago (10/2014) I noticed that the headlights on my 1999 Ford F-150 were not working. A few times once I returned to home I noticed that when I shifted the truck into park, the headlights came on. It did not appear to matter if the high beam or low beam lights were activated. I started to inspect the headlight operation and noticed that when I tilted the steering wheel to it's lowest position, typically it's operating position, the headlights turned off. When I tilted the wheel up slightly to the next position, the headlights would come on. Today, 10/19/2014 I removed the trim around the steering column and noticed that there are two wires that have broken and separated from the wiring harnesses that attach to the turn signal assembly and several contacts that are loose in the upper harness. I have taken photos and a video showing the parts that are loose and or broken. Because these broken wires and contacts are loose and affect the operation of the headlights, I am concerned about the risk of a short or sparks that they could create and without fully operational headlights, the vehicle is not drivable. I am the second owner of the truck and purchased it at around 11,000 miles. The steering column has never been taken apart nor has the trim around the steering column been removed. These wires could be seen moving as the steering wheel was tilted up and down prior to the signal assembly being removed as the headlights turned on and off with the light switch left in the on position.

7 Headlight Switch problem of the 2010 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 11/15/2011

During day time driving in rain or overcast the dashboard lights will not come on making it impossible to determine speed you are going. Switching from automatic to manual control of headlights has no effect on dash lights. They stay off! I believe this affects all current Ford vehicles.

8 Headlight Switch problem of the 1996 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 02/10/2007

The contact owns a 1996 Ford f150. Sporadically, the headlights would flicker on and off accompanied by a burning odor. The contact installed a head lamp switch, but the failure recurred two years later. He called the manufacturer in reference to NHTSA campaign id number 99v024000 (exterior lighting:headlights:switch). The representative from the manufacturer stated that because his model's body style was not included in the recall, they would not assume responsibility for any repairs. 9 Headlight Switch problem of the 2002 Ford F-150

Failure Date: 07/21/2004

The 2002 Ford F-150 headlight switch breaks upon turning on headlights. It has not caused me to wreck, however it is a problem with turning lights on at night, fog, or rain. This is the third time this has happened. I ordered it from perry Ford of poway California, but the headlight switch is on back order. That is telling me that alot of people not just my self, are having the same problem. This should be a safety recall.

Failure Date: 08/02/2003

I own a 2002 Ford F-150, XLT, purchased on may 2002. Returning from a trip to orlando florida, I was traveling westbound on I-10, 45 miles east of tallahassee when I lost headlights ilumination. Loss headlights caused me to run off the road, though I was able to keep control of vehicle and minimize material damages. Upon inspection, it was determined that headlight control knob in dashboard had became loose and had caused the headlights to turn off.
