Truck was purchased as used in oct, 2016, so we have no knowledge of previous driver's habits or problems. Everything seemed to work fine. Primary driver is 5 feet tall and moved the steering wheel down to make a more comfortable driving position. Late Dec, 2016, early Jan, 2017 while parked, we discovered the brake lights and one turn signal light no longer worked. . The high mount brake light was a bad bulb, but when a check of fuses and bulbs for the other lights were found to be ok, we decided the brake light switch was bad. Wrong ! more research pointed the problem to the multi function/combination switch or its connections, actual problem was the connections on the mfs. Numerous referrals to this problem for many Ford year models are posted on the internet as well as several videos on youtube. Com. Inspection revealed that several wires going to the mfs had pulled out of the connector when the steering wheel was lowered. Connector was damaged by this action. Wire cable going to the mfs is fixed solid to the steering column, and there is not enough slack in the wires to allow the steering wheel to be lowered all the way without causing the pulled wires and damaged connector. Problem was repaired by an independent repair shop at owners expense since the truck was hazardous, unsafe, and illegal to drive with no brake lights and partial turn signals. Driving without these lights, especially in ne ohio in the winter snow storms - I don't think so !! cost of repairs:see forwarded invoice. It appears the problem was built into the truck from the beginning and Ford should be responsible for the repairs as well as recalling all vehicles with this problem. It should be noted that the replacement Ford cable part xl1z-14a320-aa comes with longer leads to avoid the problem, so Ford is certainly aware of this failure but has done nothing about it !!.

2000 Ford F-150 has a problem with the turn signal switch failing. I have replaced it once already and the problem occurred again. I have done research via internet and other people have had the same problem. New bulb replacement and fuse replacement does not remedy the problem. The multifunction switch is defective. This could result in an accident or injury.

Turn signals fail intermittently. Sometimes hitting the brake pedal, jiggling turn signal switch or parking, putting the vehicle in "p" then into "d" will get the signals to work. Dealer cannot duplicate the problem (hence the intermittent), but the problem is not fixed. Dealer will not replace parts. The problem began oct. 2005 and continues. The signals will work for days at a time, then fail for hours at a time. This is an accident and traffic citation waiting to happen.

The windshield wipers come on while the switch is turned off. The problem is an off and on issue. The problem started on July 20, 2005. Sometimes when turning the turn signal light on it will happen, and sometimes when turning left they will come on. Over the phone a dealership told the consumer that they thought it was due to the turn signal.

On two separate occasions now, I have had the multi swwitch fail and need replacement. Both times Ford dealership in muskegon have replaced the part.
I have had to replace the multiswitch twice now. I am now on the third one already. As far as the front wheel hubs, the clearance is insufficient to allow for normal corrosion. Any front brake job requires that the hubs also be replaced as they are damaged when removed. All of my work was done at a Ford dealership.
Multi-function switch failed. Mjs.
Windshield wipers come on unexpectedly while switch is in off position. This is a safety problem because in the case of my father's ranger, the washer fluid would spray unexpectedly as well, thereby smearing the windshield and causing loss of visibility. Both our trucks were diagnosed with faulty multifunction switches. A recall for this part should be issued as there is a high number of the same complaints listed on this site for various Ford vehicles containing the same part.
Multi-functional turn signal would not work proplery: turn signal would disengage before consumer completed the turn. Dealer notified.
While driving in the rain windshield wipers stopped working, causing loss of visibility. Consumer states the multi-function switch was replaced.
Consumer noticed while making a left turn turn signal started smoking. Dealer serviced vehicle, and technician replaced function switch.
