Ford F-150 owners have reported 6 problems related to speed control springs (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford F-150 based on all problems reported for the F-150.
Steering wheel switch controls (cruise control, radio, blue tooth functions) become erratic and switch functions become jumbled (ie. Activating the radio volume control switch may change the radio station or increase vehicle speed). Problem is intermittent, but did occur during a dealer service visit. The dealer replaced switch pack, but problem still persists. I conducted my own research and found other f150 owners having similar issues. Some have been solved with the replacement of the steering column clock spring. With the unpredictability of when this issue presents itself I have resorted to never using the cruise control feature due to the risk of unintended speed changes. While the remaining issues are inconvenient, I would not classify them as dangerous. The clock spring issue appears to be common enough to warrant a more thorough investigation. For those using the cruise control feature are at an increased risk of an inadvertent activation which may lead to an accident and possible death. Unintended acceleration event, 2014 Ford f150, 5. 0 l v-8. No damage or injuries. Occurred 10/27/15 at approx. 2 pm in spring hill florida, 80 degrees and raining. Experienced sudden full open throttle condition when braking the vehicle as I pulled into a parking stall at a bank. Brake restrained the vehicle from lunging forward for several seconds until I shifted into neutral. Acceleration was sufficient to spin the tires on the damp pavement. In neutral the throttle went to max rpm for 2 to 3 seconds, then slowed to idle. Cruise control was not in use and floor mat was not near the accelerator. Vehicle is scheduled to be checked at the Ford dealership on fri 10/30. My passenger is a witness.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford F-150. While driving at an unknown speed, the cruise control activated on its own. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the set spring of the vehicle speed control needed to be replaced. Immediately after the repair, the failure resurfaced. She took the vehicle back to the dealer and they stated that she would have to replace the part again at her expense. The vehicle has not been repaired again. The failure mileage was 40,000 and current mileage was 43,000. Updated 3/16/09
the consumer stated the cruise control activated at low speeds and highway speeds and the vehicle would accelerate. Updated 03/18/09.

Recall of the cruise control deactivation switch in the 1997 Ford F-150 sons truck caught fire in their garage Ford declined to accept responsibility*
the consumer provided a copy of the recall. The consumer stated the dealer never sent a recall notice to the current address and further states they moved to the location in 2006 so Ford could not have mailed the notice in 2005 and the consumer did not own the vehicle in sept. 2005. The consumer stated even though the recall notice date was listed as Dec 2006, they had not received notice until spring 2007. The consumer stated Ford should be ashamed of putting a child's life in danger and fabricating the truth afterward.

Accelerator is sporadically sticking while driving. Feels like the pedal has lost its spring up. Throttle body has already been replaced, but it is still happening. It is during cold weather, but the truck has been warmed up prior to this occurrence .

I turned right from a stop sign and merged into traffic. I had a car in front of me and several behind me. I floored the accelerator pedal. When I released the pedal it was stuck to the floor and did not depress. At this time I stepped on the pedal again to see if this would free it but there was not even any spring to it. I then hit my brakes once to see if this would free my accelerator pedal(as you would do if your cruise control was on/ mine was not on) to no avail. Now I was about to rear end the car in front of me and there was a semi-trailer in the left lane my first reaction was to lock up my brakes. I did so and the rear tires continued to spin out of control at full throttle. The truck slid for 168' before going into a ditch on right side of road and over turning. No injury to me, just a mail box and my truck. Mccandless Ford dealership inspected vehicle and found no problems. Ford motor CO. Said they were not responsible do to the mileage being over 36000 miles, and last but not least my insurance agent said they would fix the body but could not have throttle fixed because there was not a problem. Everybody has wiped their hands of the issue and this vehicle will be put back on the road with the same problem of throttle sticking wide open. I have four children who ride in this truck and since I know of problem I can not drive this vehicle in this condition. This vehicle will one day take a human life or lives and my insurance CO will not even pay to have another mechanic look at it. How many of us get a second opinion, even from a highly educated dr. Let alone a mechanic.
