Automatic Transmission problems of the 1999 Ford F-250

16 problems related to automatic transmission have been reported for the 1999 Ford F-250. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2005

Towing an empty horse trailer, when I started to experience the vehicle struggling to pull it. When I got home and was backing the trailer up, the drive went out on the vehicle, I was left with only reverse and drive 1. Now the dealership says they cannot find anything wrong with the transmission and it's going to cost around $900. 00 dollars for them to tear it apart and take a look. I do have extended warranty insurance, but they will not cover the cost of the tear down unless they do find something wrong, and looking at some of the other problems associated with the transmission I cannot afford to have them tear it down, find nothing wrong and put it back together again several times before they do find what's malfunctioned.

2 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2003

My 1999 f250 crew cab diesel's transmission spewed transmission fluid three times. The first and second times I had a Ford dealership's mechanics fix the seal at a cost of around $900. The third time I had a private transmission shop fix it correctly for $2,200. Apparently the transmission seal has 2/1000s of an inch clearance and when overheated it blows. The transmission shop owner listed other defects with Ford's transmissions from 1999-2002 also. He said Ford has remedied the problem of its newer models. I don't know why I had to pay almost $4,000 for a faulty designed transmission. My $1,500 extended warranty (national warranty) didn't even pay for any expenses due to its bankruptcy and it being incorporated in the caymen islands. Am I the only 1999 f250 owner with transmission problems?.

3 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2003

When parked in my driveway, which is not steep at between 7-8% slope, on light snow or ice my truck will roll backward. While rolling, one rear wheel will be turning forward while the other will be turning backward. This occurs whether the park brake is applied or not, with the transmission in park. Meanwhile my old 1983 Chevrolet is parked next to it, not sliding. This is of great concern to me whenever someone comes over and parks behind my truck, or when I am parking on the street in the city. The local Ford dealership tells me there is nothing wrong, this is normal.

4 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2002

While I was exiting my truck, with motor off and transmission in park, the pin that holds it in park failed and allowed the truck to roll backwards. This scoped me up in the door and dragged me over the hillside next to the road. I had to escape from the door before it ran into trees, and in that process dislocated my left elbow and two ribs along with numerous bruises. The truck is at a repair shop to review what happened to its park gear.

5 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2001

Vehicle had rear brake fire due to rear brakes dragging.

6 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 10/22/1999

This truck has many problems. Strarting with the transmission going out, the front right side of the truck there is a distinctive "clunk" when put into gear; either forward or reverse. Then going interior; the "door ajar" light comes on it thinks that the doors are not shut, but you can slam all 4 doors shut and it still thinks the doors are "ajar" so that will keep the interior light on while driving. The interior light will go out if you get up to about 20 mph, then when you slow down to under 20mph it will come back on. The "warning bell" comes on and stays on even when the truck is shut off. Next the seat belts will some times work and some times not. Either the are hard to pull out or they will not retract. The tailgate cover has warped in not even 1 year after we had it.

7 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/20/1999

When vehicle shifted gears it vibrated for a quick second. Also, when vehicle reached 43mph, it vibrated real hard. Consumer took vehicle to the dealer, and they changed the tires. Vehicle was taken in again, and dealer then admitted that it was a problem and he had no clue.

8 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/01/1999

Engine was leaking oil at 8577 and 9830 miles on vehicle. Dealership examined vehicle, and determined there were two leaks. Rear main seal and engine oil pan were leaking on first occurrence. Dealership patched leak without pulling engine. On second occurrence, dealership had to pull engine, and found that oil pan and transmission pan were leaking oil.

9 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/22/1999

The second gear has gone out of the transmission. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer. The lights at the bottom of the door were inoperative. The steering wheel was out of alignment.

10 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/01/1999

Due defective brake lines, which dealer replaced twice, steering wheel shakes vigorously. This may cause driver to lose control and could result in a crash. Also problems with the transmission and engine. Please provide further information.

11 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 12/11/1998

Stopped at a traffic light and when light turned green, pressed gas pedal but truck would not move. Waited a few minutes and pressed pedal and truck went. Driving down highway, truck started coasting - engine was running but pressing the gas pedal gave no power. Finally got the truck to Ford service. Left the truck running and in park - the truck jumped into reverse. The truck lost power again while the Ford tech was test driving. They replaced the electronic gas pedal and the transmission. They took the truck on a test drive and noticed the rear end was grinding. They determined the carrier bearings had come apart. They have ordered a new rear end. The windshield washer fluid would not spray - they repaired some wiring to correct that problem. Ea04006 has ifs.

12 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/07/1998

The vehicle came out of gear (park), it proceeded to roll backwards down the hill. The drivers side door was open and caught on a tree which was near the vehicle. It also knocked down and injured a 4 year old as it was rolling down the hill. The vehicle was slowed down by the tree, which barely gave the driver enough time to climb into the vehicle and bring it to a complete stop before it went backwards into a revine. It has not yet been determined why this incident occurred.

13 Automatic Transmission problem

15 Automatic Transmission problem

16 Automatic Transmission problem

Upon stopping at a red light and then pulling out transmission sounded like gravel was in it. The sound went away. Later when the reverse gear was needed, gear did not work. Dealer has been contacted.
