17 problems related to gasoline engine have been reported for the 1999 Ford F-250. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Spark plug popped out.
I have a 1999 Ford f250 with a triton 5. 4l v8 engine. In March of this year it blew out a spark plug from the cylinder head. After researching this I've found it to be a common problem with these engines. This could have been disastrous due to the fuel vapor that was coming from the exposed cylinder. The smell of gas in the cab was substantial. I had to replace the engine at a cost of $4521. It is just a matter of time before some one gets hurt or worse from a fire caused by this problem.
This is the second issue that I have had with my Ford 5. 4 liter truck. The first was a famous firestone tire blowout in rush hour traffic that could have easily killed me and several others, as I was traveling 60 mph across a bridge. It caused about $3500 damage to the bed of my truck. Today, a spark plug blew out. The threads are gone. I am the only owner of the truck, so I know nothing has been damaged before. I have smelled fuel for the past two days and couldn't come up with an answer. I had scheduled to take it in to the shop tomorrow, but it didn't make it that long. There seems to be many people with the same issue. Will Ford stand up to the plate and remedy the issue, please? in calling the dealer today, their comment was "wow, we've never seen that before. " that really infuriates me, as I know they have dealt with many of them. Just do a simple search on the internet and you will find hundreds. I am yet to get it fixed, as I hope the dealer will do something about it. I'm not prepared to spend thousands on what should have never been an issue.
I simply pulled out of the driveway heard a loud pop the truck started missing very bad. Looked under the hood to find the #4 plug had blown out. If it had hit the fuel rail very hard my mechanic said it could had ruptured and caused a fire. After looking online I found this a flaw in motor head design by Ford may truck is now in the shop. This is my second time this has happened in 8 weeks.
I have a well maintained truck with av10 engine. I drove the truck home and parked it. The next time I started the truck the crankshaft and two rods broke. I use this truck with a camper. If this had happened on the highway with the camper on, a serious accident would have resulted. I cannot even get anyone to tell me why this happened to prevent it from happening again. I talked to Ford in detroit and to a dealer who services the car. The engine only had 75000 miles on it. This is not the only case I have heard of this happening to v10 engines. I think the question of why this happened is reasonable and yet I cannot get an answer. This is safety issue. Thank you.
Without prior warning, number 3 cylinder spark plug ejected violently when driving on interstate at 65 mph - damaged coil pack and cylinder head - resulted in immediate loss of power. Vehicle returned to bishop, CA (nearest town, approx. 10 miles) and left at shop there for three days while repair completed. Repair failed a second time in February, 2005. Vehicle repaired again and subsequently sold.

66,400 miles and my engine is blown at a cost of $4,800. 00, unacceptable results from an auto that is'nt supposed to be tuned up, until 100,000 miles. All regular maintenance was done.
The problem is the engine is using oil, this is a new vehicle, I am being told that this engine should use 1 quart of oil in 900 miles, I just don't believe that a new vehicle should be using this much oil. I think I'm getting the run around , it is my belief that Ford is having trouble with these new engines and they don't know what to do about it, I am not the only one with one of these new Ford trucks that is having this problem.
Started truck. Pulled onto the road and when I pressed the accelerator all it would do was idle. Pressed the accelerator to the floor 4 times and still the engine would not respond. All it would do was idle.
This vehicle has a severe lack of acceration between 3500 and 4500 rpms. I tow a 30' 5th wheel trailer and when attempting to pass another vehicle or anytime I loose power because of a hill I will step on the gas pedal for passing gear. The truck will begin to increase in speed until it gets to 3500 rpms and then looses power at once. This continues until 4500 rpms and then it seems to go into another phase and acts like it should have before by a great increase in power. I have had this to the dealer 4 times about this problem and although they admit its a problem they haven't been able to fix it. Today after the 4th try I was told that they drove a new 2000 f250 with a v10 motor and it did the same thing. Because of that they told me that it was not correctable because it is a problem that is common with this motor. Hogwash! I told them that 2 problems don't make a cure but I was informed that there was nothing more to do. This is a saftey issue because I am sure that I have caused a lot of problems behind me when I have attempted to pas or increase speed on a hill and because of this losse of power have impeaded traffic and cause uncalled for congestion. My call to Ford's cutomer service line wasn't any better that my conversation with preston Ford's service people. A lot of double talk that meant that they didn't know what to do so they punted. I would appreciate any help with this. Thank you, robert w. Chalmers.
The tires are dry rotting with32000miles the dome light stays on had to pull the bulb. The door lock nob on inside of door broke, the brake pad rubber on the pedal I had to replace the new one was worn out the brake pads on the front started squeaking at about 22000 miles the motor uses about one half quart of oil at each oil change and I take it to the dealer( dot number: ? tire size: lt235/85r1 ).
Due defective brake lines, which dealer replaced twice, steering wheel shakes vigorously. This may cause driver to lose control and could result in a crash. Also problems with the transmission and engine. Please provide further information.
Horn experiencing intermittent problem with operating in normal weather conditions, and not operating at all in cold weather conditions. Also, excessive oils useages, missing a quart within every thousand miles. Dealer notified, and informed consume rthat horn problem could not not be corrected, and oils useages was normal for that vehicle.
