I had just driven about 10 miles on I-25 from work to my house. I pulled into my driveway, got out of the vehicle and opened the gate, then I got back in the vehicle and drove on to where I park. After parking, I glanced back at the driveway, where I had stopped to open the gate, and there was a tire laying on the ground. It was actually my spare tire, that had been mounted up under the bed of my truck. Also on the ground was the bracket that holds the tire onto a cable and the nut-like device that holds the bracket onto the cable. The nut-like device apparently sheared off from the cable and the tire fell off. Looking under the bed of the truck, you can see the fraayed cable hanging down. I am so extremely relieved that this happened in my driveway instead of on the highway. Had the tire fallen off on the interstate, there is no telling what would have happened. I notified Ford motor company, via there web site. They acknowledged and suggested I take the truck to a local dealer to get the cable fixed.
While driving 10 to 15 mph consumer heard an noise. The spare tire carrier located underneath the truck broke. The cable frayed and snapped. As a result, the spare tire fell off.
Vehicle purchased new and the spare tire was not included, however the dealership did not notify consumer that spare tire was not listed as standard equipment. Mjs.
