55 problems related to steering wheel vibrate have been reported for the 2017 Ford F-250. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
When I operate my 2017 Ford f250 at speeds greater than 45 mph and encounter a pot hole or bump in the road the truck begins a terrible "death wobble". The steering wheel shakes violently and the entire truck shakes and rattles. The dealership replaced a steering damper as part of a Ford extended warranty program but now claim the problem will persist because I have worn ball joints and a drag link that needs replaced. I was told this would cost me over $1,100 and it is not covered by Ford although it is obviously a flaw and a result of the failed damper. I can't believe Ford is willing to ignore such an issue. My family won't ride on the highway in the truck as it is too frightening for them. The sad part is the truck has 25,000 miles and cost me $50,000 and I can't drive it or depend on it now.
While driving with the cruise control set at 78 mph (speed limit 80 mph) on I-80 between salt lake city, ut and wendover, nv, I went over a rough patch of road on a turn and the vehicle began to shake violently. The steering wheel was shaking back and forth rapidly and I was unable to maintain my lane through the turn. The shaking continued until I was able to slow to around 20 mph. If there would have been traffic around me I am convinced there would have been an accident. My wife, 4 year old daughter and new born son was in the vehicle. I searched NHTSA for a safety recall on the steering for Ford superduty pickups but found nothing but complaints about this issue. If this is not a recall worthy safety issue then I do not know what is. I no longer trust this truck to safely transport my family. I have maintained this vehicle well and it has only 36,000 miles on it.
Severe cases of the death wobble. Hit the slightest bump in the road going over 50 and the steering wheel shakes uncontrollably until you slow down to 10-20 mph. I have almost been in 3 wrecks now on the interstate from this issue. Ford told me the steering stabilizer bar is or backorder until mid January. I have a 60k truck I can't drive and not positive the steering dampner will even fix the issue.
I was driving on a highway about 75 miles and I hit a bump and I almost lost control of my truck with my kids in the car. The steering wheel started shaking and I had to hold on to keep it from going to the other lane to avoid hitting another vehicle. It was very scary as I thought I would have been in a deadly accident with my family, I have been the only owner of my truck and it only has 24,000 miles. I don't understand how Ford has not recalled this issue in such an expensive truck.
My vehicle's front tires started wobbling violently after going over bumps in the highway going speeds between 55mph and 80mph. These violent wobbles cause me to slam on my brakes and the wobble does not go away until I reached speeds between 20-30mph. The wobble jerks your steering wheel and shakes the entire truck and in some cases the wobble throws the vehicle into another lane and you do not have control of the vehicle until you reach the slower speeds. The wobble started after either 1. Riding over a normal bump or slightly un level area of a highway 2. Hitting small (less than 12" diameter) potholes on the highway, 3. Going over train tracks on 2 lane roads.
While driving at highway speed, tires and steering wheel started shaking violently. death wobble.
The steering on the 2017 Ford f250 has a wobble in the steering that has been called the "death wobble" whenever the vehicle drives over a bump that causes the steering wheel to shake(wobble) as you're trying to steer the vehicle. The vehicle is in motion and the "death wobble" always occurs at speeds over 20-30 miles per and gets worse at higher speeds.
2017 F-250 death wobble vehicle mileage is just over 40k while driving down the freeway at 60-65 mph I hit a pothole in the road which was about 1. 5 inches deep. The steering wheel started shaking left to right and the truck was impossible to control. I had to slow down to below 45 mph before the death wobble would stop. My truck is totally stock with stock wheels and tires on it. This is a common problem with Ford super duty trucks, and Ford denies any responsibility! this is clearly a problem with many Ford super duty trucks and someone needs to make them step up and fix this hazardous condition which can lead to potential accidents. As of may 2020 Ford issued an extended warranty coverage for the steering linkage damper. I just took my truck to a Ford dealership for this repair and they're telling me I need to replace some ball joints and bushings at my cost. It is obvious that the ball joints and bushings that are failing are directly related to the violent death wobble, but Ford will not cover these costs. Again this problem has been going on for a long time with these trucks. What other vehicle wears out ball joints and bushing that fast?.
I received a recall for a condition known as the superduty death wobble where the truck steering wheel shakes violently when you hit uneven pavement during highway speeds. I had experienced this twice then took it to my dealer who acknowledged and performed the recall. They replaced the steering dampener. It happened 4 more times with the new part and shaking far worse than before. Attached is the 2nd repair which acknowledges both repairs. I am trying to reach Ford motor company to file a formal complaint with help from my dealer. Attached is the repair invoice from the 2nd time in.
When going over a rough bridge on interstate at @ 70 mph steering wheel started shaking violently. Had to immediately slow down to about 35 mph on busy interstate to get the vehicle under control. Happened two more times the same day.
While traveling on an interstate at approx. 70 mph we hit a small bump in the road. The front end of the truck and steering wheel began to shake violently (oscillate). The only way to make it stop was to suddenly reduce speed and move to the shoulder. We experienced this 5 more times, sometimes occurring after just going over a road joint. This is extremely dangerous as you must have enough shoulder to get off of the road and vehicles behind you may not be aware that you are suddenly stopping. We have since learned that this is commonly known as the "death wobble" and Ford has known about it for a long time. The truck is under warranty and we took it to our local dealer. They claimed to have fixed it by replacing the steering damper (which should not go bad at 20,000 miles). There is no way to know if this repair will work other than to take your life in your hands and drive the truck waiting for the next incident to occur.
Steering wheel started shaking violently out of nowhere while driving on the interstate. I was traveling approximately 70 mph when out of the blue the vehicle/steering wheel violently started shaking and I started losing control of the vehicle. I had to hold on to the steering wheel as tight as I could and brake and it finally came under control. I literally thought I was going to die, that was the scariest moment of my life!! I will not drive this vehicle on the interstate again, nor will I let my children ride in this vehicle again. This is the 4th time this has happened and it is a very serious problem with this truck and it is very frightening.
Driving approximately 65 mph on a dry road 01/03/2020 I went over a slight rough spot in the road. The front wheels immediately began to vibrate severely. The steering wheel was shaking out of control. I hit the brakes to slow down to approximately 35 mph when the vibrating wheels and the shaking stopped. This is the fourth time this has happened to over the two and a half years I have owned this truck. In reading about other complaints I do not understand why Ford is not addressing this problem. I am taking my truck to my Ford dealer on Monday to have them tell me what they are going to do about this issue. This could have easily caused an accident as the truck was violently shaking. People tend to panic and may have drastic reactions when something like this happens. We need to keep up the pressure on Ford to recognize this problem and fix it before somebody gets hurt or killed.
When traveling at highway speeds between 55 to 70 mph and hit a bump the steering wheel and cab vibrates violently and need to slow down to 30 to 40 mph to stop the vibration. This occurred several times on a major interstate with heavy truck traffic and almost caused a accident when slowing down to maintain control and pull off the shoulder. I got off the interstate and drove an hour out of my way to avoid traveling at highway speeds. 2017 Ford F-250 24000 miles.
I own a 2017 Ford F-250 crew cab 4 wd and have a serious problem with a steering wheel shake while hitting rough road( death wobble). Steering shakes so violently that you almost loose control. It has happened at highway speeds and slower speeds. Vehicle is not safe to drive. Dealer gave me back the truck and said they will let me know when Ford has a fix for it. I have only owned the truck for a week and spent $40k for something that is not safe.
When driving at 60 mph or more & hitting a pot hole or ruff bridge embankment the steering wheel starts shaking violently & whole truck shakes. Only way to stop it after it starts is to slow down to around 30-40 mph. Has occurred 10-12 times in last 6 months.
While driving home from work running approx 75mph I hit a rough patch in the road after hitting the patch my steering wheel began to shake violently. It felt like the front end was coming out from under the truck. It's almost as the truck started getting a very bad wobble. I was able to regain control of the vehicle once slowing down to around 30mph. I've heard of the term what people call the death wobble. Once I hit that patch it felt like the truck was going to shake apart.
Crashno fireno injuries0 deaths0 while driving between 65 and 75 mph I hit a rough crossing a freeway bridge. Front left tire. The steering wheel started to vibrate violently almost losing control. Slowed down to 25 mph to stop steering wheel shaking. This is probably the 3rd time happening. 2017 Ford f250. 4x4. Must have read 50-60 incidents on internet . Even had a name. "shake of death".
It has happened several times and continues to be a problem. My 2017 Ford f250 while going down the road will go into the death wobble. Steering wheel shakes uncontrollably and have to take foot off of gas pedal until it slows down enough to regain conrol. The worst at interstate speeds. It is a danger to my passengers, myself and other vehicles that are around me. Have had it to the dealer numerous times with different repair attempts.
On 11/30/19 while traveling on a highway at approximately 65 mph a bump in the road caused my vehicle and steering wheel to shake violently until the vehicle was slowed to approximately 20 mph. On 12/1/19 the same thing happened on two more occasions.
At highway speeds the truck experiences violent steering wheel shaking when it road joints or slightly uneven pavement. It is so bad can cause accidents if driver is not able to maintain control.
It's apparently called the death wobble, you are driving at freeway speeds hit a pothole, bump on bridge overpass, ect. Wheels start shaking violently, steering wheel shakes back and forth violently. It's very hard to keep control of the truck. Very scary and dangerous. I had my dealership work on the problem after the first time I noticed it probably about 19 months ago. Didn't have trouble for awhile. Recently coming home after thanksgivinig it occurred 3 times on the 2 hour ride home. Called my dealership, they're aware of the problem with these models. Them supposeded part fix is back ordered and has been for awhile. My truck was new from the factory, $75,000 truck , all stock , I sure hope Ford is made to fix these right. I try to avoid driving vehicle on freeway, can't let my girls drive it. Was't aware it was such a wide spread problem till I googled it on the internet. There is thousands of complaints on there . This needs to be fixed ASAP or people are going to get killed.
At highway speeds hitting bridge expansion joints or rough roads create death wobble of the front wheels and the steering wheel shakes violently loss of control dealer has truck for repairs has done this since new progressively got worse very dangerous must apply brakes immediately to regain control.
When hitting a irregularity in the pavement, especially bridge approaches at 60-75 mph, at times the steering wheel will shake violently. I have a video of this.
I was traveling 65mph on a highway and went over a bridge and the steering wheel started shaking violently and I almost lost control. The truck did this multiple times before I reduced my speed to 50mph and got off the highway.
death wobble it started when my truck was a little over a year old at 24,000 miles. I was driving down the highway at approximately 60 mph, hit a bump in the road, and the vehicle started shaking violently and was uncontrollable. The steering wheel was shaking to the point where I couldn't grab it. The truck was all over the road. I slammed on the brakes and it quite shaking once I got down to about 25-30 mph. I have since learned this is a common issue, which scares me. Someone is going to get hurt. You cannot imagine it until you've experienced it. I've had my truck at the dealership twice and they have worked on it under warranty. The problem persists. I'm not one to complain, and I have been a huge fan of Ford vehicles my whole life, but this is a severe safety issue. There are several youtube videos to give you an idea what it looks like.
While traveling in the #3 lane at 57 mph at 6:10 p. M. On interstate 80 in northern California; as I drove over a rough patch of roadway, the steering wheel began to shake/oscillate violently as was the entire truck, which had very little control of the steering at that point. I decelerated the truck without applying the brakes as I thought that would send me into an uncontrollable spin, possibly causing a crash or worse. Luckily, drivers around me realized something was wrong and gave me as much space as they could so that I could regain control of the truck. Once I slowed to approximately 40 mph the shaking was not as intense and I began to carefully brake all the while attempting to get over to the right hand side of the roadway. I stopped the truck on the shoulder of the roadway. Since my Ford dealer was closed at that time; I drove the truck on surface streets back home and contacted my dealer the next morning. The dealer examined the truck over a two day period and said they could not duplicate or find anything amiss with the truck. A day prior, the service advisor asked me if the "death wobble" started before or after I had the truck serviced. I told him I had the truck serviced on Saturday and the "death wobble" started on Thursday, so it was after. The next day on his return call to me he indicated they couldn't find anything amiss with the truck other than the tire pressure was not correct, for which they adjusted to "proper" inflation. Below is the synopsis of the repair as it is written on my invoice: 24748 perform test drove steering wobble do not duplicated at this time perform put vehicle on rack and inspecton front end check alignment ok pass check air tires pressure found front tires at 70 psi rear 60 psi perform adjustment to specs front 60 psi rear 65 psi recommend return vehicle to customer at this time check on future concerns.
Driving truck on highway at about 73 mph. Steering wheel started shaking back and fourth badly, wobbling. Applied brakes and it settled down. It has done this several times. Also done at about 50 mph on newly asphalt highway. Apllied brakes and it settled down. I also had my tires balanced at two different tire shops that I deal with all the time. All this is drving straight on smooth asphault highway. Took to dealer and they said steering dampner (I think was the name) was bad. Replaced it and said they drove it and was ok. Truck had around 17,800 when it first did this. Truck still had a very very slight right to left shake. This was done on 9/20/2019, 18,257 miles. Did not have a "death wobble" again until 11/15/2019. It was horrible. On intersate fourty in arkansas driving on straight road about 78mph around 8:00 at night. . Did not feel any bump. Worse wobble I have had on my truck . The wobble did no stop until I got off interstate and stopped the truck. Scared me and my brother to death!!! did not do it again on way home, this is about 350 miles. Still has little shake to steering wheel that I said earlier. I don't know what would have happened if this had been my wife or grand daughter. This is a very very vsry serious problem. I called my dealer when and he said bring it back and try not to drive it over 70mph. This should not have anything to do woth it. I have videos of some of this, but not the last time ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly #vpic#.
I was traveling down the freeway at approximately 65mph when I hit an expansion joint in the road. The steering wheel began shaking violently till the vehicle slowed to about 30mph. Truck only has 20,000 miles on it.
While driving down the highway around 60mph. The front end and steering wheel was shaking so hard could not steer the truck. This is the second time it happened with this truck.
On two separate occasions, our Ford F-250 started to violently shake in the front end after going onto an overpass on the highway. This is a violent wobble of the front end. It feels like the entire front suspension is going to self destruct. This happened one time at a speed of 65 mph and another time at a speed of 75 mph. In order to get the front end shaking to stop, the vehicle had to be slowed down to approximately 35 mph. During both episodes, the steering wheel was violently shaking and it felt like the front tires were wobbling. The first time this happened, it was so violent that the front windshield cracked. The first episode occurred with approximately 21,000 miles on the vehicle. After that episode, we took the truck into the Ford dealership and they replaced some parts in the front suspension and indicated it was fixed. The second episode occurred with about 29,000 miles on the vehicle. We again took the vehicle into the Ford dealership and they changed the caster setting on the vehicle to an out of spec condition and told us that the Ford regional service rep told them that would fix the problem. After getting the vehicle back from that service visit, there was a vibration in the steering at speeds between 72 mph and 76 mph. The steering wheel would vibrate back and forth at a relatively high speed. The vehicle is at the dealership for a third time to address this newest problem. The vehicle now has right at 36,000 miles on it and is at the end of the warranty mileage. The first instance was approx October 1, 2018 and the second instance was approx March 1, 2019.
At around 20,000 miles driving down the highway I hit a bump doing about 70 mh and my steering wheel started shaking uncontrollably. Had to slow down to about 35 mph to get it to stop. Took it to my local dealership and they said the steering dampner was bad. They replaced it. Fixed the problem for about 12000 miles, now at around 30,000 miles it ha started again. Took it back to the dealer and they did an alignment on it and it still has the same problem.
I was driving on a state highway. The speed limit is 65mph. When I drove over an overpass. At 65 mph I went over the expansion joints in the road the truck started to shake violently. The steering wheel shakes back and forth to the left and right. And the whole truck shakes. After slowing down we returned to the posted speed limit only to hit some potholes two miles down the road. Where we experienced the same problem a second time. I made an appointment with the dealership I purchased the truck from, and on the way to the dealer, on the same highway in the same spot, it happened again. The truck was supposedly repaired. However on 03/07/2019 my wife took the truck to an appointment, and once again on the same highway in the same place at 70mph it happened a fourth time. I would like to add that our tires are properly inflated, balanced , and are not even down to the treadwear indicators.
"death wobble" steering wheel shakes violently at highway speeds. There are many complaints on-line someone is going to get injured. Help!.
2017 f250 with 35k. First time hauling my 3 horse bumper pull trailer. Went over the bump onto an overpass on the interstate going 70 and the whole truck started shaking violently. The seats and steering wheel were shaking. It was terrifying. I slowed to 55 and it stopped. It did it to me twice yesterday with sophie in the car. I googled 2017 f250 shaking. It's a death wobble. And lots of people are having the issue.
