Vehicle (2019 Ford f250 XLT) experienced what is commonly referred to as the "death wobble". When hitting a bump or irregularity along the interstate, at highway speeds (70 mph and above), the entire vehicle and steering column shook violently and was uncontrollable. I experienced this event twice on a recent trip out of state, with my grandchildren in the vehicle. I immediately stopped at a mechanic shop, and described the event to the mechanic, who informed me that this is a common problem with the Ford f250, and although there are measures than can be implemented to reduce the issue with the faulty front end suspension and design, the "death wobble" will most likely continue. I have spoken with several other Ford f250 owners who are experiencing the same issue with their vehicles. These vehicles are unsafe to drive at highway speeds, and are putting the occupants of the vehicle, and and other highways travelers in the vicinity of the vehicle, at risk of injury or death. As far as video documentation of the incident, please go to you tube, and enter Ford f250 "death wobble". You will see several instances of this event. In speaking with the Ford motor company, I was informed that the front end of the f250s were re-designed in the year 2020, and that the "death wobble" is no longer an issue. This does nothing to help the people who purchased the f250s between 2011 and 2019. Thank you.
2019 f250 king ranch purchased new in late June 2019. Front shimmy (also referred to as "death wobble"), started occurring at around 16,000 miles. The front wheels, suspension, steering column, etc,. Will shake violently after passing over a bump, such as an expansion joint, potholes, or pavement overlaps at 60 mph or greater. Happens mostly during interstate/highway driving. Violent shaking will not stop until vehicle has slowed to < 25 mph. As soon as problem started, the truck was taken to the dealer service department. Parts replaced as stated on the attached invoice dated 12/10/19. This did not correct the problem, so the vehicle was taken back to the dealer service department. The parts replaced are stated on the attached invoice dated 12/26/19. This did not correct the problem and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer service department on 1/14/20. The service manager stated that they are encountering the same issues with other f250 owners, especially with the 2017-2020 models. The parts manager ordered what he referred to as a "sleeve" that he hoped would fix the problem, but the part is on back-order for 4-8 weeks. The dealership will not provide a replacement vehicle for the time being, so I am forced to drive an unsafe vehicle.
