Wheel Rim Problems of Ford F-250

Tl the contact owns a 1998 Ford F-250. The contact took the vehicle to an independent tire store and the mechanic refused to mount the rear driver side tire because the rim was severely rusted. All of the other rims were in the same condition, including the spare that was not even mounted. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 220,000.

The contact owns a 2002 Ford F-250 superduty. While inspecting the vehicle, the contact found that the driver side front tires metal was split where the tire beads attach to the wheel. The split extended in both directions of the wheel. The tire and wheel were already bulging. The contact placed the spare tire on the vehicle. He still has the tire, wheel, and pictures. He purchased another premium aluminum wheel. The contact notified Ford and sent them pictures, but has not received a response in six weeks. The current mileage was 55,000 and failure mileage was 50,000. Updated 03/05/08. Driving down the highway at 65 mph when I felt front end slightly vibrating, as if a tire was out of balance. I pulled into a truck stop to check things out, and noticed the left front aluminum rim had a tear in the metal, consequently ruining a practically new tire (on less than 1 month). Put the spare tire on, and took rim to both an independent tire dealer and a Ford dealer and both dealers agreed that the rim had not been subjected to hitting anything to cause the damage showing. Wrote to Ford about the problem seeking a resolution, but got no assistance from them to rectify the situation. Have been running on the steel spare ever since and still have the original tire and rim in storage.

At 20,000 miles ongoing problem with loss of power after 1/2 hours of running and stalling out when applying accelerator pedal from a stop position. Vehicle been in dealer shop on five occasions, and probelem still reoccurring. Dealer has replaced the fuel pump, air flow sensor, mass air flow sensor, and the O2 sensors, some of these have been replaced more than once and vehicle continues to lose power and stall. Door ajar light illuminated, dealer ordered left door jam switch. Fuel gauge reads full when it is not, dealer replaced fuel sender. Consumer states passenger front rim is warped. Shifter handle bezel keeps popping off, transmission would not go into all gears, when backing in reverse, ther is a squealing noise. Left door cylinder replaced. Abs light illuminated when going in reverse. Air conditioner does not get cold.

Consumer stated while driving noticed vibration. Vehicle was serviced, technician changed rim, but tires still have problems. Technician put four michelin tire on the vehicle. Vibration continued to exist. Consumer don't think its the tires, she believes it's something major like the driveshaft.

Driver cannot take off the passenger rear wheel rim hub, which makes it impossible for him to change a flat tire. Dealer says there is nothing they can do.
