Brake Disc Caliper problems of the 1999 Ford F-350

Four problems related to brake disc caliper have been reported for the 1999 Ford F-350. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2009

I have a 1999 Ford f350. I have the brakes worked on 4 separate times in the 5 years since the truck from my father in law. The front start to shake very hard and final slows down. I have had the rotors replace the calipers replaced and the rotors turned. I have only put 60,000 miles on this truck and my father in law had put 160,000. He was having the same problem with the brakes. I have taken it to the dealer each time and they say it is hard driving. I have not been pulling any trailers with it and the brakes usually start shaking within a couple thousand miles of the brake job.

2 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2002

The right rear caliper was dragging causing it to overheat, dealer informed.

3 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 04/29/1999

Severe driver side rear brake rotor destruction from caliper mounted on front of rotor, preventing self cleaning of mud, from rotor face. Rotor is destroyed by abrasive action of grit held in place against rotor by forward motion of wheels. This problem has been encountered in our other two 1999 Fords (1-f550 and 1-f450). Our company operates a fleet of 50 vehicles in offroad oilfield service trucking. We have 33 years experience in this type of offroad vehicle use. This problem is the most severe engineering problem we have encountered in our experience. This must be addressed by Ford and an engineering change must be made. Certain injuries and deaths will probably occur during high speed brake applications if the disc pad locks into the forged cooling web of the rotor.

4 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 04/01/1999

When driving & starting to brake, brakes would pulsate & vibrate. Took vehicle to dealer & mechanic indicated brake rotors & shoes were inadequate for vehicle. The rotors were warping, and were turned. Calipers & shoes were replaced. Problem still exists. Rotors/calipers & shoes were replaced again for the 4th time. Heat from size of truck would warp rotors. Dealer was ording heavy duty brake rotors/ calipers & shoes.
