15 problems related to automatic transmission have been reported for the 2001 Ford F-350. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Consumer states 2001 Ford f350 has a transmission problem. The transmission will not shift into overdrive and became stuck between third and fourth gear when going between 60-65 mph. While driving the rpm's also revved and the vehicle started not to shift into second gear. The dealer replaced the sensor. The problem just started last weekend. Consumer has heard about a recall for transmissions in f350 1999 and 2000, but that information was not available in the NHTSA database.
My 2001 Ford f350 required a new transmision. The viecle had only 33,340 miles and was 3 years 3 months new.
(1) no events leading up to failure. (2) transmission decided that it no longer wanted to shift. I was running empty pulling nothing. I was pulling off at my exit coasting as I came up to the light. As the truck shifted down I heard a clunk. Now I get a clickingl/grind/clunk where the truck tries to shift. The truck has 79k miles on it. Most of the miles are highway miles. I occassinally pull a 6500 lb travel trailer. I took the truck to my dealer who has a diesel/heavy duty truck shop. They say I need a new transmission and that it is out of warranty. (3) new transmission was installed.
2001 Ford f350 superduty - I am a disabled veteran who does not use this vehicle to tow. The transmission would not shift from 2nd gear. The transmission has to be replaced completely at my expense. With so many complaints, why is there not a recall, or why has Ford not paid for the replacement?.
Vehicle had 38,000 miles on it when transmission went out on 2001 crewcab psd. Ford said "too bad, warranty expired now". Ended up spending $5000 on a new transmission, not from Ford, but from a diesel expert who said this is common to this vehicle, and specifically this year - he also has the same vehicle and had the exact same problem. We have owned Ford vehicles for over 25 years, but never again will we buy a Ford because we now feel they do not stand behind their vehicles. Especially after finding out that this appears to be a pretty common problem, Ford does know about it, yet refuses to do anything about it.
Lost 3erd gear in automatic trans. Found out this is a common problem with this year truck. Got an estimate for $3600. 00 by the Ford dealer. Called Fords help line and was told Ford would not help that there is no recall for this problem. How many cases does it take before a recall is issued?.
Within 5 seconds of putting vehicle in the park gear and exiting vehicle rolled down an incline and collided with a skidder. Consumer could not recall if vehicle was turned off or idling when this crash occurred. Manufacturer indicated that they could not duplicate the problem, therfore, could not provide the cause of the problem or a remedy.
Automatic transmission sprag gear cracking. Sprag gear lock-up. Also, repairs or overhaul were made on the power train system (I. E. , automatic transmission system).
Automatic transmission sprag gear cracking. (refer to odi# 10082059) the component would shift 1-3 and had no 3rd gear due to the internal damage.
Automatic transmission sprag gear cracking items. Sprag gear lock-up. Also, repairs or overhaul were made on the power train system (I. E. , automatic transmission system).
After many other problems with our F-350. Transmission went after 78000 miles, Ford says that installing a plow canceled the bumper to bumper warranty.
Auto. Transmition failure on 2001 f350 superduty Fords, this is the 4th one that I know of. The transmition fails to shift from 1st to 2nd gear. My truck has 58,000 miles, and I donot pull any heavy loads. Ford said the repairs would be at my cost. If they are having so much trouble w/ them why isn't there a recall?.
While driving at 45 mph transmission locked up, and consumer had to control vehicle off the road. Contacted dealer, and the dealer replaced transmission.
Our concern stems from not only the failure of our transmission, but more importantly from the number of times we have been asked by others, if we have ever had transmission problems with this particular model. We frequently pull our fifth wheel RV and come into contact with numerous people at the RV parks. In too many conversations to recall, the topic of discussion has been the 2001 Ford F-350 transmission problem. Everyone seems to have either encountered the problem with their own truck or knows of someone who has. We began experiencing minor problems at around 17,000 miles which increasingly got worse. The planetary (sp?) gear is what we were told was the actual problem that Ford has pinpointed with these transmissions. The number of transmission shipping cases alone, found in back of the dealership where we had our truck repaired indicative of a widespread problem not being addressed by Ford. From what we have learned, this problem does not occur until your mileage is above 15,000. Since the warranty on the transmission expires at 36,000, I expect Ford is simply playing the odds on the required replacement happening after the warranty period rather than issuing a recall on the planetary (sp?) gear. Thank you on behalf of all Ford consumers for looking into this matter. Vickie ragle.
Vehicle's transmission went hot and blew oil into the engine compartment causing a fire. The consumer stated the transmission still does not seem to perform correctly.
