36 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2017 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 09/04/2018

Upon cold start, the at in 'm' manual mode, first gear or 'r', either 4wd lo, hi or 2wd, when accelerated up to 1500-1800rpms, vehicle will accelerate by itself, without operators foot on accelerator increasing speed and rpms approaching 4000 rpms. Braking is possible and will slow to idle rpms safely, but if increased again with foot on accelerator to 1500-1800 rpms, symptom will repeat until warmed up threshold has been reached. This is between 3-5 minutes after cold start. All is normal after this time and vehicle will not increase in speed by itself. If vehicle sits for 2-3 hrs, symptom can be repeated. Outside temperature does not seem to play a factor. It is most easily experienced in 4wd lo, as the speed is lower, yet the rpms are the same as in 4wd hi or 2wd. I first experienced this when backing up (in 'r') in 4wd lo after a cold start and had to increase speed and rpms beyond 1500 when vehicle starting increasing in speed by itself. I was able to brake and no damage or injury occurred. I have since experimented to determine exactly when this symptom occurs.

37 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2016 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

Several events during acceleration after slowing (as for a light that turned green while approaching) the engine goes to full throttle (more power than normally available) and it requires full hard braking for an extended period of time, after an audible "pop" it responds. The hand book addresses this briefly, the dealer gives no answers and states the vehicle is safe. There is no interference from a floor mat ( this would only restrict the pedal going full anyway). I have credible witness to this event and other background is this engine was rebuilt by Ford after seizing up at 7900 miles and had numerous other problems since including fuel system and at least 7 cab removals.

38 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 06/16/2018

I was driviing on the highway 65mph an the truck started the death wobble it was out of control. Things on the back seat landed on the floor due to the uncontrolable shaking of the truck. Something has got to be done. Ford has got to recognize they have a big issue here an do something about it. I have to keep the speed down an even then its still an issue. I am scared to drive the truck its that bad in one instance I thought I was gonna die I couldnt get it to stop finally was able to get over to the breakdown lane an stop I was shaking an scared to death. I have not been to the dealership due to dueing my research an findin out it was the death wobble an there is no fix for it. Please there has got to be something you can do to help I would appreciate it. Thank-you.

39 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2017 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 01/25/2018

While driving the 2017 Ford f350 pickup truck down the highway at 60 mph, whenever I drove across bridges or hit small bumps, the pickup truck would shake violently and I had no control over the vehicle until speed was reduced to under 50 mph. This incident is know as the "death wobble". The truck had 14,000 miles on it the first time this occurred. Took the truck to the dealer, they replaced the track bar, sent back, and a week later the same issue of the "death wobble" happened again. Truck is at the dealership currently, and has been for a week. The same exact incident has occurred on another family member's newly purchased 2017 Ford f350 also and has been taken to the same dealership.

43 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

On 11/3/14, at our operation, we had a collision involving our employee as he was backing up our 2012 f350 when his foot got caught under the brake pedal, causing him to back into a door on a building. It appears due to the design and spacing of the pedals that it is possible to get your foot stuck under the brake pedal as you pivot from the accelerator to the brake pedal. Coincidentally, on 11/6 one of the local companies had a similar event involving a 2012 f350 when there employee was appraoching an intersection, he went to stop but his foot got caught under the brake pedal and he went through an intersection resulting in a collision. Appears on the newer 2014 f350 models, the brake pedal is narrower, reducing the chance for the foot to get caught. Spoke with Ford dealer about the issue. They advised brake pedal could not be lowered and brake pedal could not be modified to the newer style because the bolt hole pattern was different. No action was taken. Emailed Ford on 11/21/14, they could not advise of any modifications.

45 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 1995 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 02/18/2014

On February 18, 2014, at approximately 10 am, I was moving our 1995 Ford F-350 to park it at a friends house, the truck started losing power, I smelled an electrical smell & smoke started coming from the dashboard, I jumped out of the truck & opened the hood & the engine compartment was in flames, I immediately dialed 911 & connected to our local fire department, they arrived within minutes but the front half of the truck was totally destroyed, I was not aware of the recall on these trucks until a mechanic friend heard about my truck catching fire & told me about the problem with them.

47 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 10/08/2013

While driving an alarm sounded and the driver display stated " stop safely now" and lost all throttle response. When the vehicle stopped, the engine shut off and it would not crank or restart. It had to be towed from a busy intersection. The fault turned out to be a failed exhaust temperature sensor. It was not even a engine component. It is programming alone that prevented moving the truck to a safe location. What if this was a railroad grade crossing? or had kids in the truck? I can't let my wife drive it now it has 4 of these sensors and only the 1 failed one was changed. Ford has a TSB 13-13-3 on this. It is in its 3rd revision. They know of the problem.

49 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 05/30/2013

Was driving my 2006 f350 sd lariat dually with only 7,858 miles, hauling a gooseneck trailer with a horse inside and steering started to shimmy once I got up to highway speed (55 mph) on I-85n enroute to a horse show. Placed my foot on the brake and got no response. I could not stop the 15,000# of truck, trailer and horse but was able to get off the road and cruise into a large empty parking lot and slow down enough where I could safely apply the emergency brake without going through the windshield or injuring my horse. Tires were fine but there was a distinctive smell of burning pad against red hot metal and tremendous smoke was billowing out from behind the passenger side right front wheel where the rotor is seated. Brake caliper seized onto the rotor, warping it and destroying the brake pad. Post police escort, had it towed to the dealership and $2,400 later (which included new batteries and 2 new front tires), all the offending items were replaced. I specifically asked that the rear calipers and brake mechanism be checked and they assured me they did and nothing was wrong. However, coming directly home from the dealership, my driver side rear wheel brake seized with the same exact problem. Again, had to be towed to the dealership and another $1,600 later (this amount includes 4 more tires), replacing everything having to do with the rear brakes. In my research on this matter, I have discovered that this is not an isolated but a common problem possibly due to faulty hcu (hydraulic control unit) equipment. Could have easily been a tragic accident on a very busy interstate. This is most definitely a safety issue. A fire also could have easily started as the brake fluid pumped back into the main engine area of the truck. Though I have replaced both front and rear brakes there is no assurance that this danger will not recur.

60 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 01/22/2011

Having owned the truck less than a month and driving in city traffic, the vehicle lost power and went to idle. This happens repeatedly. Seems to occur primarily in city driving - not highway driving. Have been to the dealership several times with no solution. They can find no codes. This is dangerous as I could be making a left turn in heavy traffic when it drops to idle and could be involved in a serious accident. We have now owned this truck for a year and it only has 6,800 miles on it due to the danger of driving in traffic. Most of these miles have been from repeated trips to the dealership to no avail.

Speed control does not disengage when hitting the brakes. You must slow the truck down by several miles per hour before the system will disengage. (push hard and long). The problem will go away for a period of time if you preform an emergency stop that causes the anti-lock brake system to activate. This will cure the issue for awhile. But with normal braking the problem will return with in several days.

Failure Date: 01/30/2009

On 1/30/09 I experienced a fire in the engine compartment on my Ford F-350 due to a faulty speed control deactivation switch. I just happened to walk out to the vehicle that was parked in my driveway, not running, to see a glow underneath the truck. I opened the hood and realized that there was a fire coming from the brake master cylinder. After extinguishing the fire, and burning my hands, I could see that the reservoir was melted and the speed control deactivation switch is where the fire was coming from.
