Ford F-350 owners have reported 277 problems related to wheel (under the wheel category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford F-350 based on all problems reported for the F-350.
I was driving forward approx 5 mph and lost all control of the steering. The steering wheel was not moving the front tires at all. There was no warning, and indication that the steering was going bad. The truck is 2020 with approx 80,0000 miles. Not lifted, no off roading. The steering wheel will just spin no stop to it in either direction. My understaning with this truck is there is no intermidated shaft so it didnt slowly go out. The night before my family and I were coming down from lake tahoe with a boat attached. Had this happened at that spped with a trailer it would have been a very different outcome.

Our 2020 Ford F-350 experienced a catastrophic mechanical failure while in motion. The driveline disconnected, the rear axle locked up, and the transmission bellhousing was destroyed—leaving the truck completely immobile and blocking traffic. This occurred with no prior warning and posed a significant crash risk. At the time, Ford safety recall 22s22 (related to a known defect in the transmission’s output planetary four assembly) was open and had not yet been completed. The symptoms and failure we experienced match the failure scenario described in Ford's own bulletin for 22s22: driveline separation, internal transmission damage, and loss of control or park function. Ford has denied coverage, stating the failure was due to a "loose pinion flange nut" and unrelated to the recall. However, they have not provided any inspection documentation, photos, or evidence that the recalled components were properly inspected or ruled out as the root cause. We have repeatedly requested this documentation from both Ford and the dealership, but neither has provided it. We are concerned that the failure was caused by the exact defect identified in recall 22s22, and that Ford is failing to take responsibility or follow full recall procedures—including post-failure inspection and transparency. We are requesting that NHTSA investigate this case as a potential mishandling of a known safety defect and failure to comply with recall responsibilities.
Experiencing severe death wobble since August 2024, problem continues today at speeds of 60-70mph on curve and/or hard bump in roadway. Mechanic has replace all front end suspension and steering "wear parts". Have replaced all 4 shock absorbers. Replaced all rubber body bushings, which were rotted or partially disintegrated. Problem still persists. Mechanics have no solutions and have given up. I am afraid to drive my truck over 50mph. Help.

When I hit a bump at between 55 and up, the truck develops a death wobble even after having all the steering components, including ball joints, tie, rod ends, stabilizer, bar, shocks, replaced.

In June 2024, I experienced serious sustained steering wheel oscillation to the point of having to stop the vehicle while traveling over 70 mph to regain control before proceeding on my way. I scheduled an appointment with my dealer (woody anderson Ford, huntsville, al) after July 4th weekend and was assigned an appointment date of August 9, 2024 at 10:00am. In may 2024, after traveling about 47 mph over a semi-diagonal railroad tracks on level pavement, the steering became violent but was recoverable after reducing speed to under 20 mph. This was the second instance. In March 2024, after transitioning across a section of highway in town at about +/- 45 mph, which the highway had appeared to have been poorly repaired my steering began to oscillate but I was able to recover with no concern. This was the first instance.

Ongoing problem originally reported 4/12/18, NHTSA id 11084859. Originally reported failure of one aluminum wheel/valve stem causing loss of air pressure. Since then, all four outer aluminum wheels/valve stems have been subject to ongoing air loss. Ford has replaced all the valve stems because of air loss/leaking 3 times! they have also replaced all four outer aluminum wheels because of air loss/leaking. Truck is out of warranty now and I have had an independent tire seal leaking valve stems on multiple occasions and add air to tires frequently because of this ongoing safety problem.

Truck has only 70,371 mile on it and the rtm module associated with the tpms (tire pressure monitoring system) failed and must be replaced, at owners expense. The tpms is NHTSA mandated safety requirement. There should be specific published performance standards and expectations. Example: it is known the sensors themselves are battery operated and have an estimated battery life of 5-7 years. The rtm module is permanently mounted to the vehicle frame/body and should carry a reasonable published life expectancy.

Truck began to shake violently and did not stop shaking until I slowed to 20 mph. Safety risk of not being able to control the vehicle and having to slow on busy highway. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer. The components have not been inspected by manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. No warnings or other symptoms.

Today 9/6/23 at 9:20pm I was driving 65mph on the highway and hit a medium sized pot hole. This caused my front end to violently shake back and forth over a prolonged period of time causing me to loose control of my vehicle. I was able to brake and the shaking stopped around 20mph while I was on the highway. This has happened to me once before almost causing an accident. Neither time was I speeding, over loaded, or driving erratically. The pot holes were things I had seen but not avoided as were are not something that has ever caused a problem for me while driving any other vehicle. I have driven daily for over 10 years.

I have a death wobble. Ball joints, sway arms replaced, wheels rotated and balanced and still has death wobble.
We have consistently had issues with severe wheel oscillation, which I’ve seen referred to as the death wobble, that causes the entire cab of the truck to shake violently and feels like the front tires are bouncing back and forth laterally on the road, when driving over 55mph and hitting any sort of uneven road or bump, especially after bridges. We have spent thousands on replacing different parts which sometimes alleviate the issue for a short period of time, but it always comes back when you least expect it. We have come incredibly close to being rear ended on the interstate several times because the only way to stop it is to slam on the breaks to decelerate quickly and get the truck below 30 miles per hour. It is more common when not hauling anything but still occurs wether hauling a light load or very heavy one as well. We have ptsd now when driving and can’t function in our business with out using a heavy duty truck. It is absolutely terrifying. This started approximately 6 months after purchasing the truck. We just had it into a Ford repair shop and put $2000 into repairs less than a month ago.

Death wobble when hitting any bump whilr going over 55.
The problem is Ford alum rim valve stems consistently leaking. I have had them replaced by Ford, and indenpendent tire dealers. Four times now. The last time had to install spare because would not hold air more than a day while driving home. Tires go low on air every week. And need tol be filled. This is a safty hazard. I'm not the only person with this issue. Ford is in several lawsuits reguarding this issue. It is either defective rim or defective valve stems. Had them replaced and resealed by Ford and in less than six months the problem comes back. I carry an air compressor to fill tires every week. Asked Ford about issue cannot get a answer except replace valve stems again. At $75. 00 per wheel time six tires about every six months. Can you please look into this. Thank you.
Death wobble after going over bridge at 70mph, had to stop on the highway.
I purchased this vehicle brand new off the lot in Feb. 2018. It is a 2017. That should have been my clue. It was a good price. One week after purchase I had to have them add air to my tires as 3 out of 6 were losing air. This continued to happen frequently. They said the valve stems(tpms) that came on the wheels were oxidizing on the rims causing corrosion and they would replace them. They eventually replaced the outside 4 wheels with new factory rims. The same problem existed. It came to the point that I was afraid to travel with vehicle as I pull horses with a heavy trailer over mountains etc. . . I was afraid that the air would come out, valve stem would blow out and cause me to wreck and cause injury to myself or a vehicle next to me or my precious cargo. You can see this as I only have 23,000 miles on said vehicle. It is unsafe because of that possibility and also me having to pull over anywhere in my travels to change a tire frequently on a busy highway or mountain with a trailer attached. It still keeps happening. I have to have stems replaced again and again. It's listed on the internet and Ford truck forums, as many people are having the same issue. Why doesn't Ford care enough about people to replace these rims/wheels with an after market or safer, more reliable rims/wheels. It appears that the holes in these wheels are oblong and the 2 metals are not the same and this allows the the 2 unlike metals to come in contact causing the corrosion which causes the unreliable issue of air leaking which causes unsafe proper psi in tires which also causes instability. I do not feel safe. This truck has spent many days in the shop for this unsafe issue. I can get copies of all repairs made from dealership if needed. The date listed of incident is the last time it was taken in for wheel repairs. I picked it up last night.
Driving down i70 in colorado and hit a section where there is concrete. One of the cracks in the concrete caused the steering wheel to vibrate uncontrollably until the speed dropped below 50 mph. During the incident braking made the vibration worse and it felt as though the front of the truck was bouncing at a rapid rate. Steering in any direction was nearly impossible. I have a service scheduled to look at this in a few weeks but until then I fear driving as it was a complete loss of control. This happened a few more times on the journey home and seems to be tied to bumps in the road when traveling over 55 mph. This incident happened without warning and did not cause any warning lights to appear. This truck has less than 15k miles on it so I was surprised it would behave this way.
I’ve experienced 3 nearly identical incidents: after driving over bumps in the road or uneven pavement, my f350 went into an uncontrolled wobble, violently shaking, causing total loss of steering control. In each case, the uncontrolled wobble only stopped after I slowed the vehicle to under 15 mph. Because these incidents occurred on major freeways with fast moving traffic, a significant danger was posed to me and my passengers and other drivers. After searching online resources, I read several similar instances of this happening to other f350/250 owners, aka “the death wobble. ”.
I have experienced the "death wobble" numerous times. I have spent thousands of dollars since owning the truck chasing whatever we thought might be the issue. Ball joints, steering damper, tie rods/end, track bar, stabilizer bar, tires, the list is long. Stops for a time then starts up again. Death wobble consists of speeds over 60 mph and hitting bump and wheels wobble uncontrollably. This causes immediately slowing down until the wobble stops, however it is a violent shake and can pull the truck. Vehicles behind have no notice at immediate deceleration. Has not happen in the rain thank goodness.
Death wobble, the steering wheel shook violently. I could not control the vehicle and had to stop in the middle of the road to make it quit. This has happened before. It was serviced for this problem once.
I'm currently experiencing the "death wobble" with my vehicle, making it unsafe to drive past 60 mph due to intense shaking. This is a serious safety concern for both me and my family. This issue happens frequently on the freeway, and we all fear that the wheels could fall off or the vehicle might flip over. When I took the vehicle to the service center, the advisor told me I needed to add a stabilizer to my front wheels and suggested that I buy the part online and install it myself, recommending youtube for guidance. However, I have no idea what part to buy or where to get it. I’m not the designer of the truck, and I shouldn’t have to add extra parts for it to drive properly. I also believe this is a manufacturer issue, especially since multiple people seem to be experiencing the same problem.

Death wobble!! violent shaking of front suspension. When traveling highway speeds 50- 65 hit very slight bump and starts slight wobble which then increases to uncontrollable violent shaking of front end. Only way to stop it is immediate hard braking to slow to 45 mph or less. Very dangerous when in heavy traffic with heavy trucks behind and beside. I am shocked that nobody is dead! most recent was yesterday northbound I-5 north of seattle. Happened so many times I lost count. Eventually gave up and set cruise control to 45 mph in 56-70 mph traffic. This is a known issue that presents a very real threat to life and safety. Please help!.
My 2019 F-350 lariat power stroke 23,500 miles has experienced a shaking in the steering on the freeway multiple times previously, it seemed to happen when a bump or uneven part of the road was felt. The last time 1/11/23 it shook uncontrollably on the freeway until the truck was slowed to 20mph. I had both hands tightly gripped on the steering wheel and could not control it- until the speed was reduced to 20 mph. Other vehicles on the freeway had to avoid my truck as I had to lower the speed well below the minimum speed limit on the freeway which could have caused a crash. After consulting the dealer and another mechanic the term used for this condition is the death wobble. The truck is unsafe. It was brought in to the authorized Ford dealer in wisconsin. They said there is a fix for this issue but it’s backordered and has been backordered for sometime. I asked the dealer for a date when I might see this part and was told it’s backordered with no expectation of a date for the part. The truck is not safe to drive. Now I have to pick it up from the dealer without a resolution- basically drive the unsafe truck home and park it until Ford can get me the part.
Steering suspension has been failing over and over for months. Several severe incidents while driving 70+ mph down the road. Complete loss of control of the vehicle, uncontrollable death wobbles. One incident put me in a ditch, while the others were near collisions. First incident - was no longer able to drive above 30mph without sever death wobble. After “repairs”, recreated the issue at 75 mph and I’m unable to drive safely above 35 mph. Ford has confirmed many parts needing replacement but will not take ownership in replacing them. First incident -$5,300. Second incident - nearly $2500. There were no warning lamps, messages, or any notification of failure prior to incident. The entire front end of these vehicles need to be recalled. There is a class action lawsuit for a reason. I’m unable to sell my truck, or drive it do to costly recurring repairs. I’m fearful for my life in my Ford.
While driving at approximately 62mph, my truck hit a small bump in the road and began shaking so violently that I could barely hold onto the wheel. I immediately braked which caused the truck to shake even more until I finally slowed to about 20th and pulled off the 2 lane highway. Luckily there was very minimal traffic and I was able to keep from losing control. I have only had this truck that I bought from a Ford dealership approximately 5 weeks. This is extremely alarming that a truck like this has no safety recall for something that after some research is named the death wobble across the web. There is no warning, and I do not believe the dealership will do anything to fix this issue without compensation.
Driving at normal highway speed while going over a bridge on highway 290 worcester, MA the vehicle went over the metal plate that connects the bridge to the road, the front end of the vehicle started to shake. Slowly at first and quickly becoming uncontrollable. The vehicle would not stop violently shaking until I brought the truck to an almost complete stop on an extremely congested highway two days before christmas at noon time. Many vehicles around me at the time swerved to avoid hitting me, just avoiding accidentally striking my almost completely stopped vehicle in the fast lane of the highway. My confidence in the vehicle has dropped to zero and will not allow my wife or two junior operators to drive that vehicle on the highway anymore until the vehicle problem has been corrected.
On a clear day, no rain while traveling on an interstate hwy at approx 70mph, I drove onto a bridge and my truck starting violently shaking , the complete front end was causing the truck to move from side to side and I could hardly hold onto the steering wheel! my wife was was so afraid we were going to roll over, as was I! finally after taking my foot off of the gas, at about 30 or 40 mph it stopped! I'm taking it to my dealership first thing in the morning! its not safe to drive, as I might not be so lucky next time it happens. I'm finished with Ford trucks that's for sure!!!!.
Any time I hit a bump going over 50 mph the front end of my truck starts shaking violently. So much that it feels like the front end is about to break apart. The only way to stop is to slam on the brakes and slow down as fast as possible. It’s ways on the highway so it’s a danger to myself and the people behind me. I have to hold the steering wheel as tight I can to keep from losing control. Dealer told me it happens but they don’t know why. This has been happening on a daily basis since I drive on highways to get to work. And only a matter of time before I get into an accident.
This truck has exhibited the signs of Ford's death wobble for the past 140,000 miles. The truck has been under fleet maintenance program since new from my employer and we have replaced all steer linkages, stabilizers, tires, and shocks multiple times over the past 140,000 miles and no improvements. Now when the truck hits a bump in the road, an expansion joint, or an overpass transition the front end will shake so violently that it has become uncontrollable. My girlfriend had this happen to her and it sprained her wrists trying to control the truck while coming to a stop. A few months back it happened to me the truck was bouncing so badly that it started to rotate around the vertical axis, and I feared that the truck would roll over as I had to bring it to a complete stop in the middle of the road. The truck had to be driven in the far-right lane so when you must make an emergency stop there is a shoulder to move on to and avoid being rear-ended. With the amount of Ford super-duty trucks o the road today and the number of them that are experiencing this issue, I am confused why Ford is not having to stand behind this product?.
While traveling at interstate speed (55-75 mph), when you hit a certain bump or pothole or road irregularity, the front passenger wheel will begin vibrating which quickly grows in magnitude until the entire engine compartment and cab starts to violently shudder, to the point where all 4 tires begin losing contact with the road surface. The only way to regain control and reduce the harmonics is to apply maximum braking. However, as the truck starts to slow, the shudders will become more violent until finally dampening out appx. 100 yards later at around 40 mph. Once damped out, the truck will drive smoothly and predictably again at speed until the next bump. As it stands now, I am afraid to drive the truck and my wife refuses to drive it. The big fear is having this happen while in a turn or in heavy traffic where the sudden maximum braking can cause an accident.
I have a 2015 f350 and I have experienced the "death wobble" I was hauling my 5th wheel RV and I was going 60 mph and it felt like my entire front axel was getting ready to fall off my truck. I have my family of 4 in the vehicle. Both of my sons ages 8 and 3 years of age, my wife and myself. It was by far the scariest this I have ever experienced. Ford knows about the problem and still has not issued a recall. I am wanting to file a class action lawsuit.
The 2013 Ford F-350 death wobble. The front end suspension was affected. It occurred on an interstate freeway at approximately 75 mph. This is the first time for the vehicle. It has not been to a shop post incident. There were two occupants in the vehicle at the time of incident. There was a section of less smooth pavement at the time the shake started.

My truck starting shaking really bad while driving after 45 miles per hour. I went to the repair shop today and they told me it was the death wobble. Could have lost control of truck as it was very terrifying.
I have less then 40k on my 2019 f350 and I was driving home from work on August 24th on a back country road and all of a sudden my truck went into a complete shake as if I was going over rumble strips times 10. . . I was only going maybe 70km hr on dry/smooth road. I stopped the truck got out and looked at all my tires and nothing to be seen. Proceeded to head home and all was fine again. When this happened I had very little control of steering. This scares the absolute crap out of me as I haul horses all the time on the hwy's and if this was to happen doing higher speed hauling, I am scared of the outcome. I am a very experienced driver and hauling, driven all across canada and the states hauling high end horses even in europe. I am hoping a fix is in the very near future as if I was to lose my life or one of my animals life because of this. . . Not good for a anyone. Thanks.
