1 Steering problem of the 2019 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 11/20/2024

My truck wobbles out of control when I drive it above 40mph. It shakes uncontrollably. Nothing is wrong with it according to mechanics. I believe it's realated to the death wobble, many reports I have seen on tv regarding this matter on Ford trucks.

2 Steering problem of the 2023 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 10/28/2024

I was driving the truck and applied the brakes to slow down for a turn, the anti-lock brake system activated and I lost the power steering and power brakes. There is steering fluid all over the engine so apparently either a line broke or the reservoir broke. This truck has the hydro boost brake system which is why I lost the steering and the brakes.

6 Steering problem of the 2019 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 01/27/2022

30k miles on truck and have had persisting issues with a shaking front end / steering wheel while driving at speed. What many folks refer to as “death wobble”. Dealer has replaced drag link and steering stabilizer and I replaced tires prematurely out of my own pocket, none of which have solved the issue. Ford needs to figure this out. I’ve owned 2 other superduty trucks and they have all had it to some extent. Issue causes uncontrolled shaking in steering wheel of varying intensities. Extremely dangerous when it’s happened to me on the highway sending you into another lane.

7 Steering problem of the 2013 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 11/20/2021

While driving my truck down the highway it will violently shake until I brake below 40 mph. This occurs when there is a change in surface on the roadway. An example is going over a bridge or rough pavement. It has happened several times in the past year, and most recently last weekend while my wife was with me. We were driving on a major interstate at 65 mph, maintaining a single lane when the truck went into a "death wobble. " the front end shook so violently, it became a safety risk for our lives as well as other drivers. It was extremely difficult to maintain the steering until the truck stopped shaking. My wife no longer feels safe driving the vehicle. In the past, we have taken it to a local mechanic and I was advised they were not able to find an issue. We have purchased new tires and taken them to the Ford dealership to balance and align. We check the tire pressure regulary, and had an alignment done, though the violent shaking is getting worse, rather than better, when it happens. The truck gives no prior warning when this occurs. I don't see any form of recall for this issue, and a forum only advises buying an after market component to fix it. I want the truck fixed correctly, with Ford parts, as my intent was to keep it for several more years.

8 Steering problem of the 2019 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 11/01/2020

For our 2019 Ford F-450, adaptive steering fault messages started last oct/Nov 2020. Sometimes the steering wheel would be at up to 90 degrees to the direction of travel, while driving! it sometimes reset with the next car start. After the messages became constant, the truck has been in for service since early Jan 2021. Sawgrass Ford recommends the vehicle not be driven for safety concerns. Our f450 has been sitting on their lot for 50 days total and counting! according to my Ford service advisor: the sacm (steering angle sensor monitor) in the truck is not programming to the new secm. We have contacted Ford technical hotline to help assist in resolving the problem. They have responded letting us know that the new software to program the secm is being updated. There is no date for when they will have it sent to us. It seems to me Ford is having some major issues with their adaptive steering module which could endanger drivers. I even came across a mgr communication id ssm 47854 that points to them knowing about issues with this system, yet no solution in sight, and my truck sits on the Ford lot.

9 Steering problem of the 2019 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 05/09/2020

There is a noticeable and worsening wobbling/ shaking of the front end of my vehicle at 70-75 mph while driving and the vehicle occasionally is very unsteady after hitting a pothole or other obstacle at speed. I have recently purchased new tires on the truck and had them re-balanced (at 26k miles), the dealer has replaced the front end steering stabilizer and the problem continues.

10 Steering problem of the 2019 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 07/15/2019

Truck has 15000 miles has wheel hop in the frontend and the front tires are wearing bad on the outside it has had 3 stabilizer shocks replaced they told me for 1800 dollars to up grade the shocks the truck is under warranty please help.

11 Steering problem of the 2019 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 04/08/2019

Truck has experienced multiple occasions of "death wobble" since purchase. Excessive unexplained tire wear on the passenger front tire. On second tire on passenger front. Have 81k miles on truck and all other tires are wearing normal. Have had truck in alignment twice with no issues showing with alignment, wheels have been balanced. Ford service tech contacted Ford engineer and told me to increase air pressure to 100psi on front tires, I questioned this since door tag states 90psi. Still same issues, all recalls have been done. Passenger front tire is almost bald and need to purchase new tires at $400 plus, seems stupid to put new tires on and not resolve issue. I have worked with Ford dealership, two independent tire stores, continental tire engineer, and have asked many mechanics about this with no answers. The other issue is the power tailgate will open on its own. This has occurred twice while driving. Once is while I was pulling fifth wheel and tailgate opened. Spilling out a 70 qt cooler carrying 40+ water bottles and a stand for my grill. I have no knowledge at what time this happened during trip, no dash indicator or warning. The second time this happened is we were towing a horse trailer and it opened. The only warning was when we made a turn and the trailer wheel jack pinched against the tailgate and bent both the tailgate and trailer jack. Ford had a recall on tailgate which was performed prior to these incidents. Wire harness was replaced in between events at Ford dealership. Dealership answer now is to disable rear button to open tailgate, also since tailgate is bent it will bind and not open sometimes. I think it's funny that there is a warning light for the hood if unlatched, and prior to disabling rear button I had to push the door lock button to open tailgate. To me it's a design issue because the female connector faces up and plugs into male connector, where moisture can get in. All these are safety issues putting me and others in danger.

14 Steering problem of the 2012 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 06/08/2016

I took my Ford F-450 lariat for its 60,000 miles service. After the service was done, while driving it home from the Ford dealership (autonation Ford in corpus christi, TX), on the freeway as soon as I got to around 50 miles per hour the vehicle's front started to shake/wobble very violently. Speeding up to the speed limit (60 mph) did not help and the shaking got actually worst, I had to stop for the shaking/wobbling to stop, thankfully I was still on the right lane and there was a wide enough shoulder for me to stop. As soon as I restarted and got to about 50 mph the violent shaking restarted, and I had to stop again for this shaking to stop. I exited the freeway at the first exit and drove back to the dealer. On the way back the violent shaking repeated at least 5 more times, once on the city street with 45 mph speed limit. When I described the shaking to the service adviser, he said they heard about this, and they call it the "death wobble". Actually one of his mechanic experienced it before on his truck. Now my Ford F-450 is in service again and they are trying to figure out how to fix my "death wobble" problem. I filed a complain with Ford today, but I do not expect much to happen. Given that the mechanics knew about this "death wobble", and after an internet search I found that is affecting many other Ford owners (there are many groups describing the same problem), I consider that Ford should have recalled these vehicles, before somebody gets hurt. Stopping on the freeway, while semi-trucks were behind me driving at full speed was the scariest experience, and did not think that I will get away without being hit by other trucks. Please tell Ford to fix the "death wobble". I do not think that I should be responsible for paying for this fix.

15 Steering problem of the 2012 Ford F-450

Failure Date: 03/13/2016

While driving down a parkway at the speed limit, we traveled over several bridges and all of a sudden after hitting a rough spot in the road and over the bridges the truck began to shake violently and we had to almost come to a stop to hold it in the road. It continued to do this almost every time we hit a bump in the road. We had just recently bought this truck used, I am scared to ride or drive this truck anymore, it is my husbands and he does. We pull a horse trailer at times and I am scared to do so because it puts our lives as well as other motorists lives and my horses in danger. This needs to be recalled and corrected ASAP. . . . He purchased some expensive part and had it put on under the front end and it has helped but lt still feels like it will start at any moment to shake when you cross a bridge or hit a pot hole, it is like it is on the verge and could start at any moment. It does not drive normal!!!!.
