1 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2016

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fiesta. The contact stated that the vehicle would not accelerate in reverse. The vehicle was shifted into drive, but there was still no acceleration. The vehicle accelerated afterwards to approximately 30 mph and grinding noises were present. The vehicle felt as if it were struggling to engage into gear. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, but they could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was invalid. The approximate failure mileage was 52,000.

The transmission in my Fiesta has had the same issue for many months. Sluggish on acceleration, jerking motions while cornering, rough shifting, disengagement and grinding noises from the assembly. I have taken it to the dealer numerous times to be looked at. On some occasions they have performed parts replacements, other times they have reprogrammed the cpu. In every case the problem persists. There are instances when the dealer can replicate the problem and others where they cannot. I am very concerned about driving this vehicle as the powertrain is unstable. The vehicle currently has 60,000 miles on the odometer and is 5 years old. The problems have been occurring for several years. The date referenced below is the last date the problem occurred.

3 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2015

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fiesta. While shifting from first to second gear, there was a loud clicking noise coming from the front of the vehicle. While stopped at a red light, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle restarted. The failures recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle was functioning properly. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was approximately 69,456.

4 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2015

When acceleration transmission shifts very rough. Bangs gear -> grinding noise. Car feels weak and rolls backward very easy. Gas pedal not responsive. Caused almost a car crash on the freeway when sudden loss of power. I have been driving manual and automatic cars but this is dangerous!!.

5 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2015

Suddenly hard shift, and weak performance. Grinding noise when shifting or driving slow. Gas pedal not responsive. Caused almost a accident on the freeway when suddenly the car lost power and neither up or downshift was possible. I have been driving manual and automatic cars and trucks for years, this is poor engineering and very dangerous. Cars also tends to roll back and engine often vibrates, it wants to stall because its in the wrong gear or something. And again, it bangs the gears and the car literally wants to jump forward in the car in front of me.

6 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

First incident, I was driving at highway speeds, starting popping out of fifth gear. Eventually had to shift into fourth gear to finish the drive home. Took it to mechanic to look at, could not find any external cause (I. E. Linkage), and the car felt fine during test drive. A few days later, had trouble engaging into fifth gear. Figured out how to keep engaged without it popping out of gear, which lasted for a couple day. Yesterday (eight days after the first incident), while driving on the highway (approx. 70 mph), heard loud crunching noises, then lost speed. Downshifted to fourth gear, and was able to get off the highway. I let the car sit for a while, then tried to continue driving. Completely lost fifth gear. Car can be driven in first through fourth gear, but just revs in fifth. I've always had a little trouble getting the transmission to engaged correctly in reverse, but never in the rest of the gears.

7 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2014

From the beginning it has never shifted right or so I think. I even purchased the extended warranty and when I complained about it the shop said that they couldn't find anything wrong with the car. Well the other day it was making crunching noises shifting gears and it took several hundred rpms to get the car going. Went to parts store in it running like this 10 miles away and when I came back and pulled into driveway it died and hasn't started since.

8 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2013

I was parked in a friends driveway and the car wouldn't start. The radio and lights and dashboard all worked but when turn the key there was all kinds of clicking noise and flashing lights. Even after the key was removed you could hear all kinds of mechanical noise going on under the hood. The car started after roadside assistance jumped it, so I thought I was good to go. I put the car in reverse and thought I was backing out of the driveway when in all reality I was just coasting because when I got down the incline part and applied the gas pedal the rpms would go up but the car didn't move. I tried to go forward and could not. I could physically shift the car into gear but it would not move, even if I floored the gas pedal it just revved the engine. I had to then call a tow truck and had it towed to the nearest Ford dealership. They were unable to replicate the problem therefore there was no repair made nor did they try to figure it out bc they said it ran to specifications. I am concerned with being stranded traffic and not being able to move and being a sitting duck just waiting to get hit. This has happened on several occasions. Thankfully non have put me in a dangerous situation, but I do not deem this vehicle reliable, I do not deem Ford capable of fixing it and I am extremely frustrated having a car that cant be fixed.

9 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

Over the past 1 1/2 months my vehicle has stalled on the freeway 6 times. Each time the "wrench" light came on, the display read "engine malfunction" and "service now". When this would happen, the engine tachometer would first drop to 1000 rpm and the accelerator would become non-responsive. Soon after that the engine would just rev as if it were in neutral; then "bam" the transmission would engage abruptly and make a loud bang noise and lag when shifting. This has become a major concern as I have had people almost run into the rear of me because of my decline in speed. The only way to get the vehicle back to normal operation is to completely pull to the side of the road and turn the car off for a few seconds and restart it, unfortunately by doing this it resets the fault codes and does not retain the information for the dealership to be able to diagnose. I had brought the car to the dealership and left it for a week. They installed a "flight recorder" and drove for over 114 miles to try to reproduce the problem; but could not. I had pick ed up my car dissapointed that they could not reproduce the problem and as a result could not fix it. When I drove my vehicle that same day to work, it happened again at only 26 miles after their testing. I have seen on other web sites that this seems to be a common problem with other 2011 Ford Fiesta's, I only hope Ford comes up with a fix for this issue soon as it seems to me to be a program issue with the vehicles computer.

10 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2011

The incidents I report are caused by the transmission. This new dual clutch system is not selecting appropriately the right gear and often cause to have the car moving ultra slowly at start. Not to mention the huge metallic noises when downshifting at slow speed.

11 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2010

We questioned the dealer salesperson about the erratic behavior the night we purchased the car. We were told the vehicle had a manual transmission that shifted automatically. The vehicle has been to the dealership and or the dealership has been questioned many times regarding the issue. Most recently there was a notice for a reprogramming of the transmission, this did not resolve the issue. The dealers still insist that the behavior is normal. This behavior has now created many close call situations from lunging when going forward and reverse. The shifting is very erratic and makes a lot of noise from 0 to 20 mph or so. I'm also concerned about the resale value of this vehicle since I just recently starting doing research on the issue and have found it's a widespread problem. Please advise.
