Transmission will not change gears. Ford has extended warranty but it expires at 100000 miles. Its a know problem with Ford Fiesta and focus during a few years that Ford has not addressed. Car was parked and as I started driving it was jerky and gears would not shift correctly. Problem is not constant. It comes and goes.
I was driving to work on the highway, it was slow traffic, and upon slowing down, I felt a lurch and a high pitch. The car continued to drive, and upon arriving to work a few minutes away, the car began to smell bad. I parked and turned the car off. I turned the car on again and it would not change gears. I had to get my car towed. The car is currently at a mechanic, and he sublet the job to a Ford tech who is now saying that the transmission blew up. So now a transmission, trans computer, clutches, and fork have to be replaced and they are charging $5250 for the job. The car showed nothing wrong aside from the weird lurch. There was no check engine light, no trouble codes. The only thing I saw was after parking the car and turning it back on, a popup flashed on the screen saying transmission malfunction.
While driving at highway speeds in 3rd and 5th gears there was a loud whining noise coming from the 5 speed transmission. The noise will increase or decrease with the throttle and goes away when in neutral. While traveling at approximately 65 mph and with the cruise control on the car popped out of 5th gear without warning and I was not able to shift back inot 5th gear. All other gears including reverse work fine however when the shifter is placed into the 5th gear position the transmission doesn't engage. I have read numerous complaints of the same problem but not. Sure as to the outcome.
My car will not go in gear. I took it to Ford on 2/2/15 because my car was stalling when I put it in gear they ran test and said my car was fine. . It not running.
Car started normally in driveway, but when I put it in reverse to start backing out, noticed the vehicle did not shift and was just sitting in neutral which caused my car to roll back, so I put car in drive and gave it gas to move back forward, but instead kept rolling backwards out into the road (still in neutral). Turned car off and heard clicking/grinding sounds. Waited a bit and tried to start car, but car would not start, saying that it wasn't in park (it was). After fiddling with the gear shift, I finally got the car to recognize it was in the park position and it started again, but experienced the same issues with not shifting into gear properly. It seems to be extremely random as to when it shifts (and into what gear) as sometimes drive would work, sometimes reverse would work, sometimes neither would work. Car is now not starting at all, saying it isn't in park again. Still hearing clicking/grinding sounds after I turn the car off for a few seconds.
Ford manufacture service request by mail said to inspect and replace if needed clutch for transmission. Ford dealer replaced the clutch and 2 days later the transmission didn't shift smooth. As the transmission shifted the engine revved up another 1,000 rpms before shifting with shuttering noticed. Ford technicians said it was safe to drive until they could see it at the shop. 2 days later when the dealer reopened the transmission completely failed and would only shift badly from 1st to 2nd gear. It would not go into 3rd gear. 30 mph max speed.
Car felt like it was stalling when I stepped on the gas it would not move waited a few second's and it started to go drove about 100 yards same thing again, came out of it again drove towards home about 3 miles it lost all power transmission could not find the gear looking at dash saw it searching, finally it went into drive, drove another 5 miles and same thing again this time it was shifting on its own from forward to reverse and high low ranges, sat there waiting on it finally went into drive drove it home and. Called rochester Ford dropped it of they said it shifted better then any Fiesta they ever tried wife drove it home and on the way home it did same thing, contemplating next step.
Car did not move could not find the gears had to push it off the road, I was not the first time but this time was in heavy traffic and I almost got rear ended and while pushing out of the way almost got hit. I would not move in any gear. I appears there is a bulletin out for a fix it is a bad ground bold and a defective module. I feel there may be other cars that had the same issue and may have even been accidents that resulted from this. There is nothing scarier then sitting in the middle of the road and not be able to move and getting out of the car to get it out of the way is suicidal. I am grateful to rochester Ford for getting this problem fixed and at no cost.
This cars transmission slips out of gear whenever it wants too, shifts erratically and unpredictable especially in traffic at speed between 0 and 45 miles per hour. Two time I was almost in a fatal accident because when I stepped on the gas with the car in drive it was not it gear, the engine tachometer jumped to 4,000 rpm and then snapped into gear, the transmission sounds like it is falling apart from the inside out, sounds like rocks inside. The rider side air bag light saying they are off comes on when ever it wants as well even with the seat belt buckled, up hill assist shuts off causing no or very little acceleration. The car is a death trap it was sold to me with a certified pre-owned warranty 12 month bumper to bumper and 150,000 mile drive train warranty. I have taken it back twice already and paradise Ford in cocoa says its fixed its worse now than when I took it in and now the owner at the dealership refuses to service the car anymore.
The first incident occurred on start of the vehicle. The car would not go into gear. No lights came on and problem could not be replicated. Stopped, restarted and worked fine next incident at highway speed. . The car revved up and then was unresponsive to accelerator. Had to coast off highway, stop car and restart. . Immediately after took to dealer who did a software update about a month ago. Yesterday , had multiple incidents in stop and go traffic where car became unresponsive to accelerator in the middle of heavy traffic and while exiting highway and light did come on. This car makes me fear for my life. Car is back at dealership and I will never drive it again as there is no warning as to when this malfunction will occur. There is a serious defect that people need to be warned about. I will be trading mine ASAP.
Ever since vehicle was new I've had problems with the duel clutch 6 speed transmission. When upshifting through the first 4 gears transmission sounds like a tin can full of marbles. Upshifts a harsh with a jerking motion. Transmission is reluctant to down shift into first gear when approaching a stop sign or light and when I've tried to accelerate from a stop the vehicle responds like it not in first gear by jerking and lugging during acceleration until the speed builds up. I've had one case were the transmission acted like it was in neutral when I left a red light. I was forced to release the gas and step on the brake before it acted normally. I've also had issues the rpm not dropping during braking requiring additional brake pressure to bring vehicle to stop. I've contacted Ford numerous times on these issues and have been told its either normal, or they can not duplicate the problem.
Test drive was great. At approximately 100 miles the automatic transmission started to miss gear shifts at speeds below 15 mph. The transmission would shift up into 2nd and unexpectedly shift back down into 1st, the same with 2nd and 3rd gear shifts. I am also hearing a metal chatter/scrapping sound below the car at all speeds. Recently I had to suddenly brake hard and when I went back on the gas the car did not accelerate, it seemed to still be in 4th gear and did not shift down or select the proper gear. At 1000 miles I went to the dealer and they could not duplicate the problem. I am going back to the dealer for a second time and will be contacting Ford if the problem is not corrected. I have had the vehicle for only 4 months and currently have 1800 miles on the odometer. This has been a problem since 100 miles new. The consumer stated the vehicle would stall during up shifts, unless he put the vehicle in low gear and slammed on the accelerator. Frequently, the transmission, seemed to pulse in and out of gear, and going up a hill, the transmission would not stay in gear, it would try and shift down only to shift back up once he lightly let off the gas. Updated 11/15/11.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fiesta. While driving approximately 5 mph, the accelerator pedal was engaged followed by a three second delay response. The failure would occur at any given time. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they informed the contacts that the vehicle was operating properly. The failure mileage was approximately 3,700. Updated 05/25/11 the consumer stated o several occasions the vehicle could not decide which gear to go into. There was delay in acceleration. Updated 07/08/11.
2011 Ford Fiesta, have had for 28 days (purchased on 11/10/10) has been in to shop twice. First time the engine was very slow to turn on--like a dead battery with clicking noises. This time, the car was slow to turn on and would not go into gear, would try to reverse or drive and it would rev like it was in neutral. Finally got it to function, but was very worried about driving it. Took to dealership today, they recharged the battery and scrapped some paint off of some part and put some kind of oil on it. I was told that battery problems could affect some thing in the transmission's memory and that the car could "forget" how to go into gear or forget what gear it is in. This worries me as I drive quite a bit for work. I was told at dealership that all vehicles have problems with them (chevy, Dodge, etc. . . . ) I am not completely satisfied with that. I am keeping all paperwork related to this because I don't think charging the battery and scraping some paint has anything to do with fixing this problem. The car has 1200 miles on it (mainly highway) and I really expected a much better product. I even had to miss a night of work due to sitting in the service department the batter part of the day.
