1 Engine Stall problem of the 2007 Ford Five Hundred

Failure Date: 03/08/2012

There is a chronic recurrence of the engine stalling, jerking, idle speed loping, in low gear for this vehicle. At start up and the engine is cold there is little to no problem. However, once the normal operating temperature is reached (per the readout gauge), and upon applying the brakes to come to a stop, and as the transmission downshifts the engine goes dead or stalls, after re-starting and at idle, the idle speed, per the indicator, fluctuates back and forth from about 500 rpm's to 900 rpms. Placing the gear shift in the drive position causes the car to jump prior to acceleration. At this point when taking off the car jerks forward. It smoothes out after increasing the speed, but prior to each stop the fluctuating begins again.

2 Engine Stall problem of the 2005 Ford Five Hundred

Failure Date: 01/13/2012

I was driving down a residential street when all of the sudden the engine stalled on me and I received a "failsafe engine mode" message in the message center. I stopped the car and shut off the engine, then waited a couple of minutes and started it again and had no problems. I was then driving down a residential street again a couple of days later and the same thing happened where the engine stalled on me. The only warning signs that I can recall were that at times, I would experience sluggish acceleration. This is a huge issue to me and very dangerous since I have a child and what if I was traveling on the highway and this happened to me?.
