Subject: request for review: 2017 Ford Flex rear suspension toe link failure outside recall VIN range NHTSA I am writing to formally request a review and consideration of my vehicle's eligibility for recall 20v072000 (Ford recall 20s04), which addresses rear suspension toe link fractures on 2013-2018 Ford Flex models. My vehicle is a 2017 Ford Flex, and it recently experienced a failure of the right rear toe link, consistent with the failure mode described in the recall. However, after contacting my local Ford dealership (rowe Ford, westbrook, me) and the Ford motor company, I was informed that my VIN is not included in the recall coverage. I had the right rear toe link repaired and paid for it. I am concerned that the same issue could occur in my left rear toe link, so I am working to have that part preemptively replaced at my own expense. I believe that the exclusion of my vehicle by VIN may be inappropriate for the following reasons: 1. Model year and component match: my Flex falls well within the model years (2013-2018) covered by the recall, and the failed part is the exact component under scrutiny. 2. Failure occurred during normal driving conditions and almost caused an accident. 3. Ford's recall criteria appear overly narrow, possibly omitting vehicles that still contain defective parts, like my vehicle. I respectfully request that NHTSA review this matter and determine whether the VIN range for this recall should be expanded to include additional vehicles like mine that have experienced identical part failures with potential life threatening safety concerns. I have uploaded invoices from my local dealership repair facility. One invoice is for the work to replace the failed right rear toe link and the other is for preemptive replacement of the left rear toe link that I chose to commission on my own.

My back up camera show upside down or sometimes it shows a black screen. People have a habit of walking behind me when I’m backing up and I can’t see them. The warning beep sounds but I can’t tell if it a car or person behind me. When it first happen months ago I tried resetting camera, it didn’t work. Not sure if my extended warranty covers this.

I own a 2014 Ford Flex, and I have been experiencing recurring issues with the rear backup camera. The problems included the camera intermittently going in and out of service, displaying fuzzy or unclear images, and at times showing the video feed upside down. These issues closely resemble known problems covered under existing Ford recalls related to backup camera malfunctions caused by software update errors. Due to ongoing safety concerns, I took my vehicle to an authorized Ford dealership on August 21, 2025, for diagnosis and repair. The dealership confirmed the failure of the backup camera system. To resolve the issue, they diagnosed, replaced the rear backup camera, and reprogrammed the system. The total cost of the service was $638. 78. Given the similarity of this failure to the symptoms covered under previous Ford recalls, I believe this issue may be related and warrants further review.

Faulty back up camera. Shows inverted and distorted image, or fails to operate at all. Has been an issue for about 3 years.

The vehicle has a panoramic roof with each of the three windows having a roller sunshade. Two of three roller sun shades have failed or are not working causing excessive glare and heat in the vehicle.

Rear camera intermeitently works or completely fails. Was backing out of a parking space and could not see and a car speed by the back up warning did beep and saved the day - if my camera had been working I would have seen the on coming car a little bit sooner. It's been months since the recall was issued when will a remedy be available? this should not take this long for Ford to remedy?.

Back up camera is showing up distorted black on the screen with a magnifying glass. I can not see to backup.

Within the last 90-120 days the back up camera on our 1014 Ford Flex has started not working properly. It sometimes works, sometimes only a video with now parking lines, sometimes nothing at all and a blank screen. Sometimes it does all of the above in the same instance.

Trim panel on driver side door containing keyless entry pad blew off while traveling down highway, banged against car, then completely separated from vehicle and landed somewhere behind me on PA turnpike. I replaced it myself and it happened a second time exactly the same way. Now I just have black gorilla tape over the opening.

Rear subframe rusted at bolt mount. Vehicle could have experienced catastrophic failure wihle driving. Independent service center diagnosed and documented rusted area and potential for failure. Noise would happen during acceleration/deceleration but not in wet weather conditions. Until diagnosed as unsafe to drive, vehicle drove with rear passenger side sitting on rear spring, potentially causing spring to rust prematurely.

The backup camera failed in my 2017 Ford Flex. It has gotten worse over time and now doesn’t come on at all or just for a second or two. I get a blue screen of death most of the time. It makes it much unsafer to parallel park and backup into a parking spot. Every time I try to use it I get an error message saying the camera is not working. This message stay on the car screen until I press the ok button. Most times the error message doesn’t come on until I’m driving so I have to take my eyes off the road to acknowledge it. I took it to my local repair shop. They told me Ford dealership had to fix. Please add the Ford Flex to the recall announced yesterday.

The inside ceiling appears wet after it rains. It has a main sunroof and 3 other ones. It appears to leak due to several wet places on ceiling. .

A recall notice was issued for my vehicle in December 2024 for rear camera issues. It is now October 2025 - ten months after the recall notice. According to the Ford website recall service is still not available. Only approximately 30,000 vehicles were impacted by the recall. I have been without a rear camera now for over 8 months due to this issue. It has led to several near accidents while I was backing out between other vehicles in parking lots. This is a safety issue. Why has this issue not been resolved yet? please contact Ford and push this issue on them.

My backup camera will show a blank and or distorted image or the camera will be inverted so when I back up, everything is upside down. There is a recall already for this, but it is for the 2014 and 2019 Ford Flex not the 2015.

My 2017 Ford Flex has an open safety recall for the rearview camera system (Ford recall 25s49 / NHTSA recall 25v695). The recall states the camera may display a blank image or show the message “camera unavailable” when the vehicle is placed in reverse. My vehicle is actively experiencing this exact failure. The screen frequently displays “camera unavailable,” preventing the rearview camera safety feature from functioning when the vehicle is put in reverse. I received the recall notice in October 2025. Since then I have contacted my Ford dealership several times and have been told that parts are still not available to repair the recall. Ford initially provided an estimated remedy date of January 2026. This date was later moved to June 20, 2026. I was recently informed that the date has now been removed completely and there is no estimated timeline for when the recall repair will be available. The safety recall remains unresolved while the defect continues to occur on the vehicle. The rearview camera is an important safety feature that assists drivers when reversing. I am submitting this complaint because the recall repair has been delayed for many months while the safety defect is actively occurring.

Hello, this is my second 2019 Ford Flex limited my previous vehicle did not have an issue with the rear back up camera. My current one does but it VIN# is not on the the list. I went to Ford dealer ship and was told that because of the VIN# its does not qualified for the recall but the backup camera does not work always continuously. It appears the issue meets the criteria of my previous Flex I have picture of the failure.

In December of 2024 the backup camera on my 2019 Ford Flex started failing intermittently. Sometimes when I put the vehicle in reverse, I get a blue or black screen instead of the camera view. I have seen other complaints with this same issue.

The backup camera experiences intermittent error messages, doesn’t turn on, and 90% of the time the image is reversed like in a mirror.

My backup camera is experiencing the same issues as the rest of the recalled Ford vehicles. None of the recalls cover my year. The camera displays as upside down, and no longer has any of the digital guides it had before it flipped. When I asked the dealership they said most likely hardware and that we would need to replace the camera. I don't see why I have to pay to replace the camera when this is part of a recall for the same vehicle, just a different year. It makes me nervous in parking lots and coming out of my driveway.

A safety recall for my 2019 Ford Flex rear-view camera has been open since the beginning of the year. A check with my local Ford dealer indicates a probable solution by March 2026. The explanation is "parts are not available". I find this to be an unacceptable duration for "parts are not available". This is a Ford problem that has existed for multiple years and multiple models as the camera image reversed on my 2012 Ford explorer.

Backup camera is inverted and no longer displays guides.

There is a recall for the rear-view camera that has gone without a resolution for over 7 months. This vehicle is used for business purposes and my insurance will not cover its use due to the unresolved recall. Ford has not provided a remedy and they will not buy it back. Please help.

The back up/ rear camera failed on this vehicle. The sudden failure of this caused me to panic as I could no longer see directly behind my vehicle.

Backup camera failed safety was put at risk because there was no functional camera while the vehicle was in reverse. Dealer confirmed backup camera failure. Dealer inspected the backup camera and determined it needed to be replaced. There were no warnings, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. Mileage 163,483 replaced 12/31/2024.

Back over prevention: sensing system: camera 90% of the time, the rearview camera image is blank or has a distorted image.

Unknown. The hands free function of the audio system suddenly stopped working properly. When the blue tooth links up with my phone the volume is so low it can barely be heard and can’t be adjusted up. According to my google search of the issue it appears to be a common problem for Ford.

I have a 2014 Ford Flex limited ecoboost and I’m having some issues with the back up camera intermittently working and goes black and says to bring it to the dealer. After doing a tiny bit of research on this issue I’m seeing that there are a couple different years that have already recalled this camera from this model. I also have looked into a replacement and noticed that it’s the same exact camera on these models that have an open recall. I’m also a member of a facebook Ford Flex group and this issue is much more widespread than they want us to believe. Most people have had to replace them or pay a ton for the dealer to replace. It’s a very big safety issue since this vehicle has pretty terrible visibility out the rear of the car. I’m also having an issue with the front collision sensor as the adaptive cruise control has never really worked. I’ve also noticed a lot of folks posting about this in this facebook group.

Rear camera is malfunctioning. When the vehicle is in reverse, the display shows either a flashing green screen followed by an error message or an upside down image with no parking aid lines.

The back-up camera is malfunctioning. Either appear blank or will work for about 5 seconds then go blank. Took to mechanic and was confirmed as malfunctioning per codes, but wasn't able to completely diagnose.
