I have a 2009 Ford Flex with 41,000 miles. The rear brakes completely wore out with over 50% life left on the front. This is impossible unless there was a problem with the brakes hanging up when sold. The service charge was $511. 34. The brakes were repaired. Fortunately the failure of the rear brakes did not result in any consequential damage.
I purchased my Flex new on oct 2009 and it has shut off while driving three times since I bought it. The first time it happened I was driving through my neighborhood (with my children in the car with me) at 20mph all the warning lights came on my engine shut off, loss of power steering, loss of brakes. Luckily I was able coast to the side of the street. I waited a few minutes and it wouldnt start. I tried to start it again and it started up. The second time I was driving on the highway(with my children in the car with me) at 55mph engine shut off, loss of power steering, loss of brakes and check engine light came on, I coasted to the shoulder, waited a few minutes and it started right up. I took it to the dealership; they told me they couldn't find any issues that would cause the vehicle to turn off while driving so they didnt attempt to fix it. The third time was last week while driving through my neighborhhod(with my children in the car with me) at 20 mph, engine shut off, loss of power steering, loss of brakes and check engine light came on. I took it to the dealership again and again they told me that they couldnt duplicate the issue so they didnt attempt to fix it. My children were in the car with me all three times. I've taken to the dealership 3 times for this issue and they cant duplicate the issue so they can't find the problem so they didnt even attempt to fix it. I just dropped it off this week for the fourth time. Its very frustrating to have this issue especially since im scared to drive the vehicle with my kids in the car. I feel its a huge safety issue. Its a total inconvenience to have to keep going back to the dealership and drop off my vehicle. I have three children and need a dependable vehicle. Luckily we werent injured but im worried that the next time it happens an injury could occur. Why hasnt Ford listed this issue in their TSB!.
Brake grinding and shudders from front disc brakes and sometimes rear disk brakes. Ford has a long ongoing problem with the disk brakes on Ford Flex's. Several TSB's have been issued. However it seems like no parts are being sent to dealerships to take care of this problem.
2010 Flex limited in April 2010 I noticed a grinding sound from the front rotors, especially when roads were wet. Went to the dealer and was told they had a technical bulletin on a fix for it--for vehicles under 18,000 miles. The vehicle had about 14,000 on it at the time. I don't know what they fixed or tried to fix. Later in the summer, it returned, again more pronounced when raining. When reporting it to the dealer, the dealer service rep said that the company was aware of the problem but had not come up with a fix--but it was ok to drive. My wife took it in and reported the problem getting worse. They didn't believe her. I took it in and they believed me. They ordered the parts to repair it. I heard nothing after three weeks, so I stopped by the dealer; OH, they just came in yesterday--seems like their system should be sophisticated enough to contact me when the parts come in, as there was no follow-up to contact me--even though they apparently knew there was a problem. The new parts have been installed and it appears to be fixed--for now.

2010 Ford Flex. Consumer writes regarding problem with brakes the consumer stated the problem he experienced with the brakes only happened for a short time after the vehicle has been stationary for several hours. The consumer stated the brake pedal was very stiff when the vehicle was first started. Once he began driving, the pedal was so stiff, it felt as though the vehicle was not going to stop, the consumer stated he had to apply the brake very hard and eventually the vehicle stopped. After driving about 3/4 of a mile, the brakes seemed fine. The consumer has been to the dealer on four separate occasions. The first time, the dealer stated a new brake booster was needed which was replaced under warranty. The problem seemed to be fixed initially, but it slowly returned. The consumer returned to the dealer and they confirmed the problem. However, Ford later stated they did not have a fix for the problem. An engineer from corporate then came out and tested the vehicle and said there was nothing wrong.
