Ford Flex owners have reported 3 problems related to transmission gear slipping (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford Flex based on all problems reported for the Flex.
Total motor failure when driving! transmission frequently slips. Motor had to be replaced. When pressure exhaust for ecoboost is redirected to cylinder 3 and 5 the head gasket fails allowing water to enter the head of motor which them steam fries the cylinders. This is very common in the 2010 Flex with ecbiost and need to be recalled ASAP! motors up to 100,000. Mine had 74000 when failure occurred.

From a stop, transmission slipped, banged into 1st (or 2nd gear), did it again around 50 mph, felt like the tranny slipped and then banged into gear. The banging into gear is a violent lurch. Took it to Ford told nothing wrong with vehicle (even though I had prior TSB's on same tranny issues in 01/2011 build cars). Started in 2012, was intermittent until recently and has happened several times over past month.
