Brake Disc Rotor problems of the 2000 Ford Focus

To whom it may concern, own a 2000 Ford Focus zx3, I have had this car in for more repairs & recalls then I can count. The most recent visit to the dealer (colley Ford, glendora, CA. ) for a recall (program) and to have the brakes serviced was on 10/02/2004, I was told after 3 days that the clutch had a burnt smell, the battery had to be replaced, as well as the spark plug wires, some hose, and that the brake rotors would have to be turned (this is the second set of rotors on this car that has 37000 miles). Please help me I am at the end of my rope with this car and don't know where to turn. I cant win with the dealer or Ford motor company. . . . . What should I do, what can I do? the fealer will not help & Ford will not help. I still have not been able to have the car fit yet, im waiting to hear from the dealer. Consistent and costly brake problems on my 2000 Ford Focus - VIN 1fafp3439yw314241. Recently, on Feb 26, 2004, bob baker Ford, san diego serviced/replaced my front rotors & pads - costing $483. My rear brakes were previously serviced due to loud squeal (deglazed, dr sanded) on March 21, 2003; October 25, 2002; and August 23, 2002. Are rotors normally replaced at 18625 miles? I emailed Ford motor company (case 952919, tracking kmm2756164c0km) on 2/26/04, and they phoned me the next day. Ford motor stated my problem was due to the previous owner's excessive use of the brakes, and they would forward my complaint to their engineer department.

When depressing the brake pedal consumer heard a grinding noise, causing the vehicle to have extended stopping distance. Consumer took vehicle to the dealer to be inspected, and mechanic determined that front rotors were wearing out.

2000 Ford Focus bought new have had brake problums since day one, front brakes wear out prematurly once at 24000 miles now at 48000 miles and now even the front rotors are worn out, it has been the inboard pads that go bad. Also the rear brakes squeal very badly and have since new rear brakes have been replaced three times with no cure, my Ford dealer has told me all cars do this and nothing can be done to solve the problem, I have since asked other Focus drives about this problem and most say thet don't have a brake problem and have heard no othe car of any kind squeeling as mine does it's embaressing to drive and every one looks at us when ever we apply the brakes it's very bad, the car is now out of warrenty but Ford will not admit to haveing a problem and has done nothing to solve the problem, I feel that it should be taken care of reguardless because they do have a problem, I feel it is bad rotors-sticking calipers on the front and possibly a bad proporshing valve as for the rear, the valve could be also the problem along with the shoes also, something needs done I am afraid to drive it at times not knowing what will go wrong with the brakes next or when, but this squeel has got to stop!!!.

The rotors and brakes have had to be replaced before 35,000. This car is not safe. We took the car in because it was making noise for brake pads. The called and told use the rotors were damaged. This is took soon to have this part replaced.

Ford Focus brake pads and rotor problems since 11,500 miles on vehicle, inspected and told nothing wrong, normal squeeking and grinding. My daughter feels that while driving the car the brakes are grinding and giving under her. We take it in for the 15k service and they tell us the brakes are fine at 15,600 miles inspected and told nothing wrong, normal with change of weather. Yesterday my daughter said the brakes were not holding and we took the car in for a wheel bearing recall for the rear brake system and at 18,000 miles, dealership says brake pads and rotors are completely gone! I have talked to the dealer and Ford who say they will "cover" this $400 repair. My complaint is that this should have never occurred and could have cost my daughter, my son who rides in the car or me our lives. I feel they are very aware of this problem and chose to overlook their responsibility that could have cost my family our lives. Someone needs to make them accountable including the dealership who "inspected" the brakes and chose to lie to us on 2 other occassions. If Ford has a problem then the dealerships are only compounding the problem with the possiblity of loss of life.

Front brakes grinding. After taking for a brake inspection was told the car needs front rotors and pads and new cylinders on the back as it is leaking brake fluid. Ph.

Excessive wear on front brakes. Consumer did all highway driving, and had to replace rotors at 30000 miles.

Fumes in passenger compartment whenever heat or air conditioning on. Dealer claims smells nothing and also rotors on brake drums are minimum required by law without having to be replaced even though they have never been machined or scarred. Dealership says they are aware of problem but Ford has done nothing about it and rotors aren't under warranty even though they are defective.

Rotors and pads wear excessively. Vehicle has no problem stopping, but squeals when brakes are applied. Vehicle was taken in for front brake problem. Dealer was notified. Please provide more information.

When applying brakes they were squeaking , dealer replaced front rotors. Please provide additional information.

Front brakes began to squeel. Upon inspection at brake shop it was found that although the front pads were in good shape, both front rotors were warped and needed replacement. Vehicle was purchased from the Ford dealer approximately 10,000 miles ago. The right rear brake drum also needed replacement because of excessive wear. The vehicle had been into Ford for a recall on the rear bearings at 23,757 miles at which time the rear drums were removed but apparently the drums were not warped or the mechanic did not inspect prior to replacement. . Premature failure of front disk rotors. This appears to be a frequent and well documented problem with Ford Focus. Ford customer service claims the failure of the rotors is "normal wear and tear" yet owners are reporting frequent failures. There is even an internet site devoted solely to this defect, which Ford has not acknowledged.

While driving would step on brake pedal and brakes would malfunction at time of operation, had taken vehicle to dealer and they replaced rotors five times the brakes squeak often, both the rotors and brake pads had to be replaced due to warping, the vehicle has 31,800 miles.

Rotors are prematurely wearing and have been replaced three times. When brakes are applied at any speed a loud noise occurs, cause unknown. Dealer has been contacted. Please give any further details.

Front rotors were replaced due to vibration and squealing when applying brake. Replaced a second time in February 2002 for the same problem.

Consumer traveled on highway alot and vehicle started making grinding noise. Brake rotors and drums on the left were crumbling. Manufacturer's recalls 00s20 and 00s31 did not affect consumer's vehicle due to VIN.

I have had 3 sets of brakes,3 sets of tires and my rotors shaved(that helped for about 2 months). Seventy percent of my mileage is interstate driving,therefore,not using the brakes that much. The only way to stop the vibration of the wheels is to replace the rotors, which happens to be wearing out my tires with there 50,000 mile warrenty. In otherwords, the brakes and rotares on this car are of the poorest quality I have ever seen. So much for american pride, I'm going back to my Honda!.

While traveling on highway vehicle shakes and vibrates. Rotors are warped. Also, they are under sized. Dealership is aware of the problem.

Squeaking brake, extreme wear and tear of front tires, back tires with wear and tear issues, alignment issues on front tires and cruise control issues.

Consumer bought vehicle in February and at 2700 miles front brakes made a squeaking amnd grinding noise. She had taken vehicle to the dealership more than once. She had a mechanic drive vehicle, and he couldn't duplicate the problem. Then, took vehicle out again and grinding was heard. Mechanic toldconsumer that front brakes pad had warped, and left driver's side front rotors has to be replaced. Vehicle is at the dealership.

Consumer was having problems with rotors rusting. Dealer was contacted, and stated that rotors needed to be replaced, but did not explain as why this happened.

Consumer was advised that both front brake rotors were grooved and had to be replaced. The tech was unable to explain or identify the cause of the defect.

The rotors continued to fail on the vehicle.

Consumer states that there is a thumping noise while driving, cause unknown. Took vehicle to dealer, and the dealer stated rotors need replacing.

Brakes squealing - took to local Ford dealership- nothing wrong with my brakes this was on Jan. 18, 2002- had to have front pads and rotors replaced on 5/31/2002. Throttle stuck in Jan 2002.

The rotors were replaced on 3 occasions.
