1 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2021

I've been experiencing an electrical issue. I have lost power to my break lights completely. There was no warning lights or signs at all. I was pulled over and made aware by a police officer that my break light were out. I proceeded to try to replace the light itself which did not work, it only continues to blow the dust when I try. I had a mechanic inspect it and he told me there seems to be a short or possible broken wire somewhere in the wiring harness.

2 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2013

I had turned on my vehicle and the airbag light came on and stayed on. Originally, the airbag light would come on when I started the car in the mornings and then shut off when the car had been driven for a short period. I had an independent mechanic that I have used for 8 years investigate the issue and he suggested I file a complaint, as it is difficult for him to pinpoint the fault for the airbag light. This vehicle has over a dozen recalls on it already that have been fixed over the years. Some other issues have not been addressed ever, except for the same vehicle sold in canada. Also, I never received compensation for the brake disc replacement that had occurred after 22,000 miles had been on the vehicle. I never had to replace disc at such short time of driving a vehicle. Lastly, the center console is unstable and detached from the rear at the base of the arm rest, which was poorly secured with three 1/4 inch welds.

3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2012

The contact owns a 2000 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph with the cruise control activated, a growling noise was heard coming from the rear end of the vehicle. The contact continued to drive and then began to hear a clunking sound as the vehicle began to shake. The contact was able to stop the vehicle on the shoulder of the road and noticed smoke coming from the rear driver’s side brake drum. A few moments later, the drum caught on fire due to the grease igniting. The contact used water and was able to extinguish the flames. The vehicle was then towed to contact’s home. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 142,000.

4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2010

On an irregular basis, the car does not return to idle when braking. Most of the time this occurs when exiting from a highway but lately has been occurring on side streets. Abnormally hard brake pressure is required to stop the vehicle and once I had to shift to neutral and back to drive to return to slow idle. Dealer claimed to be unable to find or repair this problem.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2006

: the contact stated while driving 65 mph the brakes locked up without warrant. The brake pedal was not depressed; smoke erupted from the passenger side rear wheel. The vehicle was pulled off the road without incident. Upon inspection the rim was black and there were metal pieces on the inner side of the wheel. The vehicle was driven very slowly 25 miles to an independent repair shop for inspection. The mechanic was unable to remove the wheel hub due to the damage caused by the brakes locking up.

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2005

On 19 Feb 2005 I went to have my rear brakes replaced on my 2000 Ford Focus. When they went to replace the rear brakes, they found that the rear wheel bearings were seized to the rear spindle. I had recall #01b85b done on 27 Dec 2001 to prevent this. But it did not help.

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2003

Have had my front brakes replaced three times. First time at 11,000 miles, second time (rotors replaced) at 24,000 miles and third time at 36,000 miles. Brakes consistently squeal, so loudly that I can hear them over my radio! I've been told by the dealership that Focus brakes tend to be loud, but it doesn't mean they don't work. Dealer also said they received notice from Ford that Focus brakes just "squeal". I don't believe this is true and that this should not be considered "normal wear and tear".

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2003

Had I known about the excessive brake dust that coats on the wheels, especially the front wheels,I never would have bought this car. In order for this car to look decent I have to get on the ground on my hands and knees using a solvent and water along with a lot of elbow grease and a brush and sponge and literally clean these wheels at least once a week. A simple drive through a car wash will not clean this brake dust adequately. I have called Ford three times in the last few years complaining that this is a manufacturing defect and of course they deny it!the last call I made a consumer rep from Ford read from a bulletin that they put out instructing owners as to how to clean off the brake dust. If there was not a defect why are they putting it in black and white to be read? I am disgusted with their attitude and would like to return the car to the dealership but feel frustrated that they will only "laugh"at me. Any advice?I will gladly take part in any class action that you might have knowledge of???.

We were told by the dealer that we need to replace the entire front brake system @ less than 25,000. 00 miles, to the tune of $500. 00 all paid by me. When I asked about the warranty I was told the brake wear was due to my driving, but I have since found out there have been multiple complaints about the same problem from other owners of the same car.

17 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2002

This is a copy of the letter I sent to Ford prestige Ford garland TX attn: jerry reynolds dear mr. . Reynolds Ford Focus 2000 vehicle id# 1fafp34p0yw197796 I became a customer of prestige Ford 5 years ago when I first bought my 98 escort. I was pleased with the car, never had any problems within the 2 years I had it only the scheduled maintenance. Feb 28th 2000 I made the stupidest decision in my life to trade it for a brand new Focus 2000 -I was impressed of the reviews of being the european car of the year in 1999. Well during this 3 years I had nothing but trouble and I just received another safety recall. I don't even remember how many times I've taken my car back to Ford for safety recalls during the last 3 years. In 3 years I had to replace brakes 3 times (that's actually once a year) replace rotors twice something got messed up last August with the electrical system and the starter I had to have that fixed. There's always noise with the brakes, I asked several times and all your staff or the one on 75 can tell me is a "known problem" first it was "metal brakes" no problem that's normal after a couple of years you changed it to a "known problem"??? I just wanted to let you know my disappointment about this stupid car, I sure did made a big mistake when I decided to buy it. Also I bought extended warranty and that really seems not to be a big benefit since it hasn't helped a bit, I still had to pay for all this repairs. As far as I know this are the known problems with the car, so tell me am I supposed to be a happy camper?? I'm a single mother, I make my payments on time, I don't have the time and the money to keep spending in a car that will be paid off in a couple of years and then I will be left with a big peace of junk. Please let me know when I can take my car to get fixed again. Very unhappy customer guadalupe araceli ramirez.
