Brake Electric Antilock problems of the 2000 Ford Focus - part 1

I was going about 15 mph when I hit a small pot hole in the road. Soon after I began to hear a clicking noise when I would take turns. After bringing the car to a mechanic I was told that both front coil springs had shattered. After having these fixed as they were under extended warranty by the manufacturer I am told that coincidently I have new front suspension and abs issues which though most likely were caused by the coil string malfunction will not be covered as subsequent damage and I am on my own. Had the damage to the coil spring not occurred there would have been no issues with the abs or front suspension.

My car was kept up to date on maintenance and recalls. Approximately 2 days before my accident, my husband experienced a slight delay in brake response on one occasion while driving. He checked all fluids and looked for leaks. Everything seemed good. No indicator lights or warning lights indicated a problem. On the day of my accident, I drove to work and most of the way home. I was less than a mile from my destination when I applied my brakes to make a 90 degree turn. This is the first and only time that I had knowledge of a total loss of brakes, with no indicator or warning lights being activated to alert me of a brake problem. As a result, I crashed into a utility pole, injuring myself and my passenger. My 2000 Ford Focus se is totaled.

For the events of the final failure; I was attempting to stop at a red light that I did not see at first. Though I had plenty of room to stop my vehicle before hitting someone I was not able to stop due to the brakes locking up. I had at least two and a half car lenghts between me and the intersection. I believe as a result in the brakes locking up I was unable to stop and t-boned another car. My car was totalled. I have had other problems with the brakes locking up and nothing was done to repair the problem because the service people could not duplicate the problem so they did not know what to fix.

When trying to apply the anti lock brakes. The brakes will lock up causing the vehicle to have extended stopping distance. Dealer notified.

While pressing on brakes pedal goes to the floor and it is hard for vehicle to stop. Cause unknown. Dealer notified.

During normal braking on dry road surface vehicle wheeels would lock up intermittently. On wet road surface wheels wound lock up continually. Vehicle been to dealer on three occasions, but problem still occurring. Feel free to provide any further information.

Brakes have not been right since the first day of delivery.

In Jan 2002 Ford wanted to buy car back but said the car is 2 years old so it was only worth half of its value due to the car would have to go to an auction car was in shop 77 days then released and 4 days later parts went up again and car lost steering and brakes and had accident this is a serious matter and someone is going to be killed by this problem Ford knows about this problem but seems they dont care.

When the driver applied the brakes they locked which resulted in extended stopping distance.

While traveling at approximately 30 mph consumer attempted to apply brakes for a red light, and consumer had to force brake pedal all the way to floor which slowed vehicle down. But, did not bring it to a complete stop. Light changed, and consumer continued on, and parked car. Dealership has yet to examine vehicle. Please provide any additional information/attachments.

I've had ongoing problems with the whole car and no one will help me. No safety defect listed.

I have a 2000 Ford Focus that I have had allot of problems with. I specially ordered this car to have all the safety features including side impact air bags, and anti loc brakes. We originally had bought the car in CA. The first problem happened at 3000 miles the rear brakes started squealing, and the seat belt buzzer wont go off. We took it to Ford were they said nothing was wrong. We moved to nc were we now live. Took it back to Ford with the same complaint this now 30,000 miles. They said they were defective, they had the car over night for the seat belt buzzer, still no problem found. So they replaced the brakes. When we picked up the car the seat belt buzzer did the job of staying on for us. It stopped the squeal problem with the brakes. 1 1/2 weeks later we had an accident. Whitch I might add the air bags did not go off. Also in the accident the rear seat came unhinged and threw a plastic piece that holds the seatbelt at the back of her head causing a lump. My wife said the brakes just didn't work as they did previously with the noise. I took it out for a test drive found the brakes were not acting right, the car would not stop properly. Took it back to Ford, they told us that everything was fine. A friend of ours was a Ford mechanic at a different dealership was going to look at it for us, he was killed that week in a car accident un-related. So we lost our inside mechanic to tell us what was really happening. Now at 50,000 miles the noise is back, my wife who drives the vehicle says every once in a while the brakes will act up again. Now we just don't have the time nor the patients to deal with the dealerships once again for now the fan blower only works on 3 on the dial and the cable broke to select def, vents, ect. Along with the recall of the wiper motor, and the neeeding of new roters on the front. This car to me is a lemon.

While driving on i275 nth I heard what sounded like the noise a flat tire would make. Got off motorway to investigate, could find nothing wrong. Got back on only to find the car starting to pull toward the passenger side. Luckily I was near a rest area, pulled off. Only to find smoke pouring from the rear wheel. It had siezed solid. It was taken to a dealer, who fixed the following, drum&bearing cup, spindle, retainer asy wheel, rotor brake sk, cap rear wheel and the abs sensor. Refused to check other side as that had already(much early been fixed under a recall) while their they did find the cause for the fuel smell inside the vehicle, in circuit 15rl3(gn. Rd) @ c-87 terminal was not seated in connector, fuel consumption has improved from 28mpg to 31mpg. Local dealer and Ford customer service both told me my concerns with the other rear wheel and the engine due to it's consumption of unburned fuel(not to mention mine)were area's they will not check, even if I feel they are potentially dangerous to myself and any passengers I may have.

Problems have not been fixed. I am very concerned that my car is unsafe. The brakes are not dependable and squeak. My car is only 7 months old. I bought the car to feel safe with my 10 month old son. I do not feel safe; and I am becoming very disappointed with the car and service.

Vehicle was at the dealership for routine check up, and mechanic told consumer that she needed brakes in front and back. At 15000 miles she needed all new brakes front and rear. At 18000 she needed rear brakes, but front brakes were fine.

In to dealer three times, they say it's normal yet Ford has 7 s/b's out for this problem. No safety defect.

Brakes are sqeaking and making knocking noise. Dealership is aware of problem.

While driving about 30 mph and when stepping on brake pedal to slow speed down, brakes did not work, causing consumer to hit guardrail. Vehicle was towed away, and dealer couldn't explain what happened.

Brakes don't hold when applied, almost causing an accident. Unable to stop vehicle. Had part replaced several time. Also, front end shakes and there is a knocking noise under gas pedal.

After 400 miles brakes start to squeak, can hear them a mile away. Brakes have been replaced 3 times, last time was 2 weeks ago and there was squeaking agan. Currently, vehicle at repair shop for a fourth brake repair. Consumer fears that brakes may go out at anytime.

After driving vehicle for about an 1/2 hour consumer parked and shut off engine. After about 15 minutes, consumer restarted vehicle when brakes locked up, and vehicle would not move.

When applying brakes there is noise. Dealer has had vehicle for repair, but cannot remedy problem.

Brakes started squeaking loudly and constantly every time you come to a stop. Have brought the car into the elmwood park, NJ dealership and they have checked it twice and said this is to be expected. Have read Ford's disclaimer about brake noise given to me after I purchased the car (and after I complained of the problem once it started after the car had been broken in), and it mentions "occasional" brake noise. This noise is constant! I told the Fordcompany and dealership that I feel there is something wrong with these brakes. They should not be making this kind of noise all the time and the noise is only getting worse! the dealership (elmwood park, NJ) has told me they will not check the brakes again under warranty and will charge me if I ask them to check them again (they checked them at 2000 miles and then again at 8000 miles). The Ford motor company has failed to answer my requests verbally and a second time put into writing to speak to a supervisor about this matter. I do not feel safe in this car!.

Vehicle had intermittentley when he applies his brakes the pedal goes all the way to the floor. And said that he hear a streaking noise.

When brake pedal is applied brakes make a screeching sound that dose'nt stop until vehicle comes to a complete stop. Dealer has been copntacted.

While driving brakes, and rotors were completely wore out at 19,094. Had just taken vehicle in for 15,000 mile check up. Dealer s.

When brakes were applied under normal conditions, brake pedal was normal and brakes did not catch, resulting in extended stopping distance. Dealer has inspected and repaired vehicle; but, brakes grind when applied.

When applying brakes vehicle will accelerate in both drive and reverse gears. Rpms will rev up high, and sometimes consumer must shift into neutral to stop it. Dealer cannot determine cause.

My front brakes squeal, drag, and now jerk when applied. I have taken the vehicle to the dealer . No results, feel brakes are defective - dealer will not let me talk with Ford rep. - would like to know if other Focus owners having same problem- I feel this is a safety hazard- request recall. Thank you .

Brake problems: there is alot of noise when applying the brakes. This has been an on going thing since me and my husband purchased the Focus. We have contacted the dealer ship on several occassions to report the problem and to this day nothing has been done to resolve the issue. All they have to say is that its suppose to do that. We now have to totally replace the whole brake system and haven't even had the car for more than a year and a half. Dealership is very unprofessional and unwilling to help at all.

Vehicle braking system failure is wearing excessively, approximately every 13000 miles.
