2 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2003

When driving car after so long the engine gets hot and speed reduces. When pushing on accelerator to try to pick up speed, it continues to lose more speed and starts jerking. After it continues to keep jerking and speed keeps going down engine shuts off, leaving me sit in the middle of town with two children under the age of two. When car stalls and you try to restart, it turns over but will not start. Once it does start it shuts back down until it sits for a couple hours. Had this problem for a long period of time. Ford refuses to fix even when under warranty. It supposed to be such a reliable car but is very unsafe to drive when it acts up. Could cause serious accident. I don't feel safe driving a car that I'm paying so much money for to keep breaking down. I find this to be a seriuos problem. I don't believe anyone that has children would want this happening to them and Ford not doing anything about it, telling me there's nothing wrong with it .

5 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2001

My car has shut down twice while driving causing complete loss of control. The first time I was driving down a mountain going about 60 mph and the car shut off and I had no control of the steering or anything. The car restarted on its own after a couple of seconds. The most recent time, I was coming off the freeway and the car shut off causing me too drive into a curb going about 50mph, this time I had to restart the car myself. Both times I have taken the vehicle into the service dept. And they have told me there is nothing they can do. I called Ford customer service and was told that they are aware of the problem.

6 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2001

I would like to submit a complaint against crossroads Ford in raleigh, nc who has me drivinig a death trap. I least this vehicle last year (2000 Ford Focus) and only put 9000 mile on it to date. Even so, it has been shutting off while driving at 45+ miles per hour. When it shuts off I do not have steering capabilities. More than once I was in the fast lane and was in very dangerous situations. Once I went into a ditch with my four year old son in the car and to this day, he still remembers it. Ford has refused to take ownership of this problem and has not fixed it. This is my sixth lease or purchase from Ford and I am appauled at the treatment. I think they are waiting for another firestone incident, for me to lose my life, before they recognize the problem.

7 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2000

Repeated attempts in dealing with Ford service, customer service and management (regional and central offices) have failed to correct these problems. Discrepancy in documentation by thomason damerow Ford service department in what I was told was done to the car versus what was documented. I was told verbally that certain corrections were made to the car but these were not documented. For example, I was told by chad the evening service manager that there was something wrong with the crank shaft dampener yet this was not documented when I picked up the car and informed dealer I would pursue lemon law. Dealer had car for 30 days in April and I was told parts were on back order. Regional manager was to have called me back but did not. Service manager contacted on 08/22/2000 and 08/23/2000 regarding repeated problems but he only seemed to be concerned with documentating our telephone conversation. Service manager stated he did not know the status on the back ordered parts but that he would call me back but he has not. I informed him that car continues to stall while driving. Dealer provided with new phone and address although they were to have contacted me a few months ago before I moved yet failed to do so since April 30,2000. Car has since stalled, I am very afraid to drive the car on the highway as the car will not even reach acceptable and a safe speed to merge with highway traffic. I will not use the cruise control as it seems to accelerate on its own even after the cruise control is not in use and it is turned off. There are numerous other problems with this car but the one I am most concerned about is the safety of this vehicle. . . . . Stallling, engine shut down while driving on highway, inadequate speeds to merge with traffic, inadequate speeds on slight incline, unable to use car to travel up the mountains which are plentiful in the area where I live. Please investigate this problem to protect the public's safety , both the Ford drivers and others on the road.

10 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

While driving for 75 miles west on i96 the car came to a complete stop, no power. Luckly I managed to pull over. The car restarted after a few minutes, but the engine shut down a further 5 times till I arrived at the dealer. They spent a couple of days with the car, all they could tell me that they felt I needed to change the plugs and leads. Have not driven the car for any long distances since. Still have burning smell from engine compartment, can not smell inside the car now as Ford did fit a carbon cabin filter. Have had front sway bars replaced, along with rear wheel bearing, under extended warranty at $100 cost to myself. Plugs and wires Ford refused to pay for.
