Gasoline Engine problems of the 2000 Ford Focus - part 1

Car cut off at intersection in philadelphia, it wouldn't accelerate and acted as if it had run out of gas. When I restarted it, it would go about 4 blocks and shut off again. I did this 5x before I actually got home. Also, the interior dash area was very hot. I almost called the fire dept. , but there wasn't a fire. Investigation date closed 1/16/04 per NHTSA and vehicle was sold to me 2/16/04. I was not told of any such problems with the vehicle prior to purchase. Dealer does not want to accept responsibility. My 2d payment is due may 1st to americredit.

My wife has a 2000 Focus for the past 3 months when she is driving it will die. It can be restarted quickly but it will die multiple times. It will tend to run rough as well when it has this problem and will have no power. The problem now has become and all the time thing. Last week after having it at the Ford dealer a couple of weeks back, they left all the connections loose and the car had gas running out every were. Also have had a code that said we had a bad gas cap. We have replaced everything that has anything to do with the fuel system and it did no good. Fuel pump 2 times, fuel regulator, fuel control module. Also checked all the connections as per Ford bulletin.

Engine oil sprays out of dip stick. Dt.

These problems have all happened at different times and seem to be completely unrelated. The rotors had to be replaced with the brakes at approximately 13k miles. The engine just went into idle while I was driving. This happened three separate times, but when I took it in to the dealer. They didn't see anything wrong with it and couldn't duplicate the malfunction. My rear wheels started making a very low noise around 8/15/02. After an accident at the end of August. The noise was much worse and the rear bearings were replaced by the shop that fixed my car after the accident. South florida is a "high-salt/corrosion" area because of our proximity to the sea. This was never introduced before. When the cigarette lighter is pushed in, it does not merely pop out when it is hot. It ejects and is thrown on the floor. Having it land on my leg twice and my carpet scorched by it twice, it could have cause a serious accident. Thank you for your assistance. Dt.

Consumer states that while driving the vehicle looses power causing the steering wheel to lock up. Nlm.

I beg of you recall this car. It will eventually kill somebody and their children. No safety defect listed.

While on the highway enegine cut off and my car pulled to the right , which caused car to spin out of control and smack into wall of medium.

In April 2000, my car died. Ford had to give me a brand new engine. Now in December 2002, more car problems and they have to replace the transmission. This car is not even three years old and has too many major problems for a vehicle this new. Dt.

Vehicle would momentarily lose power while driving at multiple speed. Vehicle been to the dealer, and the problem reoccurred. Feel free to provide any further information.

While driving at any speed and without warning vehicle completely shutdown, resulting in a collision. Dealer has been notified, and could not determine cause. Please give any further details.

While driving 55mph vehicle would downshift and lose power. Took to dealer and dealer indicated that motor will downshift when using back defroster. Please add VIN.

While parked with the ignition off, the vehicle caught on fire. (claim#59-v961-685).

Vehicle completely stopped while driving up a hill at 45 mph, as a result of the vehilce stopping the vehcle then began to roll backwards, the vehicle has stopped like this three other times and the dealer has told the consumer that there is no problem, the consumer is requesting reimbursement from the manufacturer. Nlm.

While drivng, the insured noticed smoke coming from the hood, and then the vehicle caught on fire. (claim#40-2559-357).

The insured stated the the vehicle caught on fire under the hood. (claim#04-1294-277).

While driving and foot is removed from accelarator, motor races, loses power dies out. Brakes squeal intermittently.

While driving 20 mph, car complete shut off causing consumer to lose complete control of vehicle and manuvering of steering wheel, manufacturer contacted.

Purchased my car in 2000. My car currently has 51,000 miles on it now. Since that time, I have purchased two brand new sets of tires and have had my car aligned two times. . Ihave also needed my trunk latch replaced and although my brakes have been replaced they continue to squeal. Recently, whilr driving on an interstate mt car sputtered and shut down. I waited two hours at which point it was able to be driven. I took it to Ford and they believed I need my fuel pump replaced. This occurred one more time approximately three days later.

Consumer states that while making a turn vehicle will shut off. Nlm.

Control arm failure resulted in tires needing to be replaced, though they had less than 20,000 miles. Ford would not warranty them and firestone would not honor warranty due to damage being caused by defect in the car. The problem with the engine starting and/or dying has just begun in recent months and seems to be getting worse.

While driving vehicle would shut down without prior warning. Power would completely go out, no steeering or hazard lights. Consumer would turn engine off, and start back up. This has occurred on numerous occasions. Dealer was unable to duplicate, so was not able to provide remedy.

At any speed vehicle will shut off with out any notice. Contacted dealer, and was not willing to do anything.

The vehicle hesitates at times upon acceleration, but the dealer could not find the problem.

While driving, the vehicle caught on fire. (claim#42-1295-268).

Car was taken to delaership in April regarding noise coming from the rear of the car. They stated they could not find any problems. I cannot tell if the noise is coming from one of the rear wheels.

Fords dealership are rude, worker broke other parts on your cars and don't let you know. You are not able to trust the saleman , the quote you agreed to pay was change on the way into the financial person. I will never buy another Ford. They do not stand behind their cars. I have never had this experience before. I changed dealships and the same business. I did fine one nice person toni. I have a 2000 Ford Focus for anyone who want o buy it for the balance.

Engine has surging/missing. Ford says its a command module calibration problem and not safety related. Cant fix problem. Said Ford is aware of problem but cant fix it yet. Concerned this is a safety problem. Ford dealership would not accept car for service for a third attempt. Told to drive the car until Ford engineers can find a fix.

Will this leak cause electrical problems, a possible accident?.

Consumer has had 6 recalls on this vehicle, he is very concerned for his safety.

Consumer experienced problems with engine shaking, almost to the point of cutting off when coming to a stop light. The local dealer was unwilling to look at the vehicle free of charge.

Consumer states that intermittently when accelerating the vehicle hesitates. The dealer has inspected the vehicle. Nlm.

Vehicle dies and starts up again instantly in mid-drive. Very spontaneous. Will happen eight times in one day and none the next. Dealership service department continually sends car back saying that they cannot "duplicate" the problem.

While driving at 60 mph engine shut completely down. Dealer has been contacted.

Brakes squeak when applied. After 4th trip into dealership, service advisor said this is a common problem for the Ford Focus but that Ford is not doing anything about it. Engine has failed on me 4 times in the 18months that I have had it. The dealership just replaced the fuel sending unit and said that it "should take care of the problem. " I doubt it! if this happens again, I will be checking with California lemon law. This was my first Ford and definitely my last!.

When driving at any speed vehicle will cut off without prior warning, causing loss of brakes and power steering. Consumer has contacted the dealer, dealer has yet to determine the cause. Please provide any further details.
